Seminole Fighting Seminoles (Sanford) (0-0) at Gainesville Hurricanes (1-0)
When: Friday
Where: Citizens Field, Gainesville
Kickoff: 7:30 p.m. ET
Coaches: Eric Lodge, Seminole; Dock Pollard, Gainesville
Skinny: Seminole was originally scheduled to open up the season this week with DeLand, but with DeLand in quarantine, they had to find another opponent quickly in which they did with Gainesville who had been seeking out additional home games. Both Seminole and Gainesville are led by new head coaches this year with Eric Lodge taking over at Seminole in his first varsity head coaching job. Gainesville is led by Dock Pollard who came over from Santa Fe after spending two seasons there including taking the Raiders to the playoffs in 2018. For Seminole, the biggest name everyone is going to be watching this season is All-State quarterback Timmy McClain (2021) who had a tremendous season in 2019. McClain went 146 of 226 passing for 2,295 yards, throwing 25 touchdowns and only three interceptions on his way to All-State honors. For Gainesville, quarterback Brent King (2022) will be the leader for the team after having 209 total yards of offense and was responsible for both of the Hurricanes’ scores last week in their 14-0 win over Santa Fe. As such this will be a test for both teams to see where one stands with no games played by Seminole and with only a small sample size to gauge Gainesville with.
