Coaches: Pat Surtain, American Heritage; Darrell Sutherland, Bartram Trail
Skinny: By far the best matchup of two teams in the state Week 5, is believed to be the first meeting between the two storied programs. American Heritage is coming off a 24-0 win over Clearwater last week and this marks the third straight road game in a row for the visiting Patriots. In last week’s game running back Mark Fletcher (2023) had 105 yards rushing on nine carries and scoring once, while Jaeden Kinlock (2022) was stout on the defensive side of the ball collecting six tackles with two of them for loss and forcing and recovering two fumbles in the win. For the host Bears, they are coming of their third straight win in a rivalry over St. Augustine as well as their third win of the season, winning last week’s contest 35-21. The big-name we have mentioned before in these previews is Eric Weatherly (2022) who has proven not just as an effective weapon as a receiver, which he had 80 yards receiving on eight catches last week as well as a touchdown, but as special teams returner. Last week he once again made his opponents pay for kicking the ball to him a huge 74-yard punt return that iced the game for the victory. Another player to keep an eye on is A.J. Jones III (2021) who had 112 yards rushing and a touchdown last week on just 13 carries along with a receiving touchdown as well.
