Skinny: This is one game that you can expect to be close every time these two Tampa-area private schools meet. In last year’s meeting, that was certainly the case when the Buccaneers squeaked out a 21-16 win over the Crusaders. The visiting Buccaneers are coming off a 25-14 season-opening loss last week to Tampa Jesuit where they had taken an early lead before squandering and being shut out in the latter half of the game. Key players to watch including quarterback Gavin Rupp (2021) who threw for a touchdown pass last week to receiver Xavier Townsend (2022). For the host Crusaders, they dominated Zephyrhills in a 35-7 win to remain undefeated on the season. Xavione Washington (2023) will be the name to watch at quarterback and will have a matchup in receiver A.J. Williams (2022) that could be seen early and often in the game. The connecting resulted in three touchdowns last week while Washington went 8-of-12 passing for 201 yards and the three touchdowns. Williams had four catches for 120 yards on top of his three touchdowns.
