UTL Richemard Mellien, Jr., Naples First Baptist
Mellien has been the top weapon for First Baptist since he was a freshman and has been on the all-state teams as well since that time started two seasons ago. Well, this year Mellien just added more great things to his resume with another solid season racking up 1,447 all-purpose yards through rushing, receiving, kick returns, punt returning, intercepting passes on defense. He totaled out 16 total touchdowns (6 rushing, 9 receiving, 1 punt return) and earned 23 points as the team’s kicker through point after tries all while helping the Lions reach the Class 2A State Semifinals.
QB Ennio Yapoor, Fr., Hialeah Champagnat Catholic
Yapoor is another rising freshman quarterback which is making the Class of 2025 for a quarterback in Florida to be one of the best classes ever for a quarterback, helping lead the Lions back to the Class 2A State Championship game. Yapoor finished the 2021 season with a nearly 70% completion rate on his throws, throwing for 3,300 yards, tossing 26 touchdowns, and having only 4 passes intercepted. He also added 530 yards rushing, scoring 11 more times on the ground.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR NOMINEES
DL Johnathan Goddard, Sr., Jacksonville Trinity Christian
One of the leaders of the Conquerors defense, Goddard racked up 74 tackles, 6 sacks, and 8 quarterback hurries, clogging up the running lanes against opposing offenses that helped lead to a second straight state championship for Trinity Christian.
ATH Demarion Jenkins, So., Orlando Christian Prep
A shutdown corner as a sophomore, Jenkins also contributed to the team in other ways as well. Jenkins finished the season with 26 solo tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and 2 interceptions while helping lead the Warriors to the Class 2A State Semifinals in Orlando Christian Prep’s return to the FHSAA State Series.
DB Cam Miller, Sr., Jacksonville Trinity Christian
A threat in the Conquerors’ secondary, Miller made his presence known to opposing offenses collecting up 56 tackles and forcing a fumble as teams tended to stay away from throwing towards him during the season. Miller also collected up 622 all-purpose yards between special teams and offense having 1 kickoff return for a touchdown while also blocking a field goal as well. His efforts helped lead to back-to-back state championships for Trinity Christian and the 2021 Class 2A State Championship.
LB Caden Morrell, Sr., Jacksonville Trinity Christian
Called the heart and soul of the Conquerors’ defense, Morrell racked up 149 total tackles, racking up 11 quarterback hurries, 6.5 sacks, forcing 4 fumbles while recovering 3 fumbles, and contributed on special teams while helping the Conquerors win the Class 2A State Championship.
DL Timothy Summons, Sr., Hialeah Champagnat Catholic

COACH OF THE YEAR NOMINEES
Hector Clavijo III, Hialeah Champagnat Catholic
If there is one thing that Coach Clavijo did well, it was that he knew how to get the most out of this team playing one of the toughest schedules in the state on a yearly basis and he certainly got that in 2021 from his Lions. While the results came up short of repeating as Class 2A State Champions, Champagnat Catholic finished with a 10-3 overall record and the Class 2A-Region 4 Championship.
Guerschom Demosthenes, Orlando Christian Prep
In Orlando Christian Prep’s return to the FHSAA State Series, Demosthenes showed his Warriors the way to a great season leading them to the Class 2A State Semifinals before falling to eventual Class 2A State Champion, Jacksonville Trinity Christian. The only other loss the Warriors suffered was in Week 1 to eventual SSAC AAAA Champion Orlando Lake Highland Prep while knocking out Zephyrhills Christian twice, the second win earning them a Class 2A-Region 2 Championship. Overall Orlando Christian Prep went 10-2 for the 2021 season.
Verlon Dorminey, Jacksonville Trinity Christian
The former car salesman-turned-head coach 31 years ago, turned in his 300th career victory during the 2021 season, paving a path Dorminey did not expect to go down in turning the small school located on Jacksonville’s Hammond Blvd. into one of the state’s most recognizable small school powerhouses. With that, the Conquerors played one of the toughest schedules in the state this year going 10-4 overall, winning the Class 2A State Championship and team’s 9th overall state championship in school history putting Trinity Christian within two state championships of matching the city record of 11 state championships that rival Jacksonville Bolles holds across the river while matching anther rival across the river with Jacksonville University Christian who also holds 9 state championships in their trophy case.
Alex Lehky, Quincy Munroe Day
In his third year as the head coach at the small, private school located just outside rural Quincy in Gadsden County, Lehky set out to do what no other football coach had been able to do in Munroe Day history had ever done – that won a football playoff game. Sure enough, that happened for the Bobcats this year as Lehky guided them to the first playoff win over a very formidable opponent in-state powerhouse, Jacksonville University Christian before falling to eventual Class 2A State Champion Jacksonville Trinity Christian in the Class 2A-Region 1 Championship. Munroe Day finished the 2021 season with an 8-3 overall record.
Billy Sparacio, Naples First Baptist
Sparacio who built the First Baptist program up from scratch starting with just three games in 2009 led the Lions to their second-ever state semifinal appearance in school history with what could be considered one of the best teams he has had since launching the program. The Lions only suffered one loss during the regular season to Fort Myers Bishop Verot, before falling to Class 2A State Runner-Up Hialeah Champagnat Catholic in the state semifinals to finish the 2021 season with a 10-2 overall record.
