GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Hurricane Ian formed in the Caribbean Sea on Friday evening which current projections show that Florida will be in the path of Ian – possibly as a major Hurricane of Category 3 or above – come the middle of next week.
The projected path puts most of the Florida peninsula in the cone of uncertainty and as all counties are already under a declared State of Emergency.
As such, the Week 6 schedule, which includes a heavy load of district contests for eight of the nine classifications in the state, is at risk of potentially rescheduling – all dependent upon the timing and arrival of what could be Hurricane Ian on Wednesday or Thursday.
This page will provide updates regarding any changes to the Week 6 game schedule in the state with the latest updates posted at the top of the page.

Some school districts have already canceled activities for some of this weeks including football practices which are expected to have impacts on what games will be played.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 24
9:26 PM ET UPDATE: Volusia County Schools is monitoring Ian as of yesterday morning and is in close contact with the Emergency Management Center in the county in a message posted to the school district website.
9:13 PM ET UPDATE: Polk County Public Schools posted yesterday morning that they were monitoring things when Ian was still a tropical depression. They said they would continue to monitor things and work with Polk County emergency management personnel to be prepared in case the storm should impact the county.
9:07 PM ET UPDATE: Pinellas County Schools say they are currently monitoring Tropical Storm Ian as of yesterday morning and said that school remains in session. They said should conditions change unexpectedly that the school district will communicate using the following methods:
- A recorded phone message to all employees and families
- E-mail message to employees and families
- Via text message to all registered users (opt in by texting YES to 67587)
- Information posted on the district website: www.pcsb.org
- Information will be shared with local TV, radio, print and online news outlets
- Information posted on district’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.
- Emergency Information Phone Line: (727) 588-6424. Call the Emergency Information Phone Line to hear a recorded update.
9:03 PM ET UPDATE: Pasco County Schools has a message running on top of the school district website saying they are monitoring Tropical Storm Ian. At this time the school district has not canceled school or any school-related events.
8:59 PM ET UPDATE: Orange County stated on Friday evening they are closely monitoring things, but said it was still too early to determine the exact impact on Orange County. No school cancellations or plans to cancel extracurricular activities were planned at the time of the post made on social media:

8:50 PM ET UPDATE: Monroe County School District is monitoring Tropical Storm Ian and is participating in calls with Monroe County Emergency Management. At this time no school closures are currently planned:
School District staff participated in another call with Monroe County Emergency Management on Saturday afternoon. There has been little change to Tropical Storm Ian's forecast. To clarify, currently there are NO SCHOOL CLOSURES. Please stay tuned for further updates.

8:23 PM ET UPDATE: The School District of Lee County posted around one hour ago that they are closely monitoring Tropical Storm Ian, but no planned closures of school or district sites are planned for Monday.

8:16 PM ET UPDATE: Hillsborough County Superintendent Addison Davis said that his school district is in contact with the county’s Emergency Operations Center regarding Ian. No school cancellations at this time, but this could change as the district learn’s more from a post made earlier this morning on Twitter.

3:54 PM ET UPDATE: The DeSoto County School District decided yesterday evening to move up its school board meeting to this coming Monday. We will follow the school district to see if any possible school closures will come via this meeting or sooner.
3:48 PM ET UPDATE: Collier County Public School District is actively monitoring updates as of yesterday evening. Students already have a scheduled day off from school this coming Monday, September 26.
3:42 PM ET UPDATE: Charlotte County Public Schools currently has this message posted on their school district website that they will update parents through their parent connect call system and place information on the school district website. This update was shared at 6 PM ET on Friday evening and the school district plans on making another update via the system during the weekend.

3:15 PM ET UPDATE: Governor Ron DeSantis has updated his Executive Order to declare a State of Emergency for all 67 counties in Florida. Stay tuned for more updates as we learn them:

2:34 PM ET UPDATE: Officials in Manatee County have issued a local State of Emergency in a 4-0 vote per Jessica De Leon at the Bradenton Herald meaning that on top of the statewide State of Emergency, the county is now under a local State of Emergency. This could have potential impacts if Manatee schools will be in operation next week, but it is not known at this time.
Four commissioners are present for the vote: Kevin Van Ostenbridge, Vanessa Baugh, George Kruse and Reggie Bellamy.

2 PM ET UPDATE: As of 2 PM Eastern on Advisory 6A, the National Hurrican Center in Miami has Tropical Storm Ian with 45 mph sustained winds located at 14.2N, 75.8W moving West at 16 mph. A full complete advisory update will be issued around 5 PM ET this afternoon.
Currently, 24 counties are under a declared State of Emergency issued by an Executive Order by Governor Ron DeSantis on Friday afternoon.

Veteran official Jesse Martello tells FloridaHSFootball.com that schools in Polk County are already requesting to switch games to Monday and Tuesday of this coming week to get games played before Ian is supposed to make landfall. He also said talks are already happening in Pasco County as well about possibly moving games up to Monday and Tuesday.
