With the second and final weekend of the 2022 FHSAA State Championships wrapped, we had a lot of athletes turn in great performances on the field and made their names heard loudly. Here is a look at our second weekend State Championship All-Tournament Team in the five games played in the FHSAA State Championships in Fort Lauderdale.
OFFENSE
QB Keyone Jenkins, Miami Central – Was effective in leading the Rockets to an undefeated season in Class 2M going 11-of-21 passing for 153 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 73 yards on the ground and two more touchdowns.
QB Alberto Mendoza, Columbus – Went 11-of-16 passing for 148 yards and a touchdown, plus had one touchdown reception on the Explorer special play that won the Explorers the Class 4M State Championship.
RB/WR Ajai Harrell, Mainland – Harrell was the Buccaneers’ Mr. Do Everything in their runner-up finish in Class 3S, rushing for 195 yards on 24 carries and three touchdowns while having nine receptions for another 139 yards. Overall Harrell had 353 all-purpose yards.
RB Jonathan Harris, Miami Central – Had nine carries for 141 rushing yards and a touchdown in the Class 2M State Championship victory over American Heritage.
RB Mark Fletcher, American Heritage – Fletcher had 20 touches with the ball for 106 yards rushing and a touchdown plus three receptions for 30 yards.
WR Javon Robinson, Homestead – Robinson had a solid game for the Broncos in the Class 3M State Championship, catching six passes for 91 yards and two touchdowns.
WR Brandon Inniss, American Heritage – Was a target in the Patriots’ passing game as well as special teams, totaling 155 all-purpose yards (87 receiving, 68 kick return) and scoring on a receiving touchdown.
WR Carlos Mitchell, Lake Wales – Had three receptions for 140 yards including one reception for a 64-yard touchdown. Mitchell had a total of 186 all-purpose yards (46 kick return yards included) for the Highlanders in the Class 3S State Championship game.
OL Ryan Mickow, St. Thomas Aquinas – The senior offensive lineman has been one of the key leaders for the offensive line for the Raiders and was so again in the Class 3M State Championship win.
OL Madden Santiago, Mainland – Another guy that was huge and instrumental for the Buccaneers that helped Ajai Harrell have a huge came in the Class 3M State Championship game.
OL Luke Moise, Miami Central – Moise has been one of the top linemen for the Rockets all season long and proved it once again in the Class 2M State Championship victory for his team helping Keyone Jenkins have a big night.
OL Alexander Schaffer, Lake Wales – Schaffer was instrumental in his team winning the Class 3S State Championship and seeing that Trent Grotjan had a big day in the victory.
OL Joey Colosi, American Heritage – Colosi was instrumental in Mark Fletcher having a solid night with the rushing game for the Patriots in the Class 2M State Championship game.
UTL/QB Trent Grotjan, Lake Wales – Grotjan was a key leader in leading the Highlanders to their first-ever state championship going 13-of-23 passing for 319 yards and two touchdowns. Grotjan was also effective on the ground rushing for 32 yards and two more touchdowns. Grotjan also averaged 37 yards per punt on five punts.
K Wylie Shaw, American Heritage – Was perfect in field goals in the Class 2M State Championship game, going three-for-three with the longest being from 40 yards out. Also averaged 60 yards per kickoff on seven kickoffs.
DEFENSE
DL Keyshawn Johnson, St. Thomas Aquinas – Had a huge game for the Raiders defense in the Class 3M State Championship game, collecting seven total tackles, four sacks, five tackles for loss, and a quarterback hurry.
DL Rueben Bain, Miami Central – The Miami commit had a big game for the Rockets in Class 2M State Championship game with Bain having five tackles, a sack, two tackles for loss, one pass breakup, one fumble recovery, and three quarterback hurries.
DL Larry Jones III, Lakeland – We heard his name a lot in the Class 4S State Championship game, collecting seven tackles, three and a half sacks, and five tackles for loss for the Dreadnaughts.
DL Idris King, Lakeland – Racked up six tackles, two sacks, two tackles for loss, one pass breakup, and one quarterback hurry for Lakeland in the Class 4S State Championship game.
DL Lorenzo Payne IV, Apopka – Payne was a pain to Columbus for the Blue Darters defense in the Class 4M State Championship game, collecting four tackles, two sacks, two and a half tackles for loss, and one pass breakup.
LB Hector Chavez, Columbus – Racked up 20 total tackles, one tackle for loss, and recovered a fumble for the Explorers in the Class 4M State Championship game.
LB Ezekiel Marcelin, Miami Central – Was all over the field for the Rockets’ defense in Class 2M State Championship game, collecting 14 total tackles, and forcing a fumble.
LB David Vadala, American Heritage – Vadala had a huge impact for the Patriots in the Class 2M State Championship game collecting seven total tackles, a half tackle for loss, forcing a fumble, recovering a fumble, and breaking up one pass.
LB Eduardo Nunez, Homestead – Racked up 10 total tackles, one-and-half tackles for loss, forced one fumble, recovered one fumble, and had one quarterback hurry in the Class 3M State Championship game.
LB Marcus Woodley, Homestead – Collected 12 total tackles, three tackles for loss, forced one fumble, one pass breakup, and one quarterback hurry.
DB Philipp Davis, Lake Wales – Was a consistent force in the backfield for the Highlanders, collecting two interceptions, a pass breakup, and a tackle.
DB Zay Mincey, Mainland – Mincey was a defensive force for the Buccaneers intercepting one pass and collecting eight tackles in the Class 3S State Championship.
DB Elliot Washington, Venice – Had five total tackles, intercepted one pass that led to a touchdown, forced one fumble, and recovered one fumble.
UTL King Mack, St. Thomas Aquinas – The defensive back was not really picked on much by the Homestead offense, but when he was, he made them know that he was not one to mess with, having two pass breakups along with five total tackles, plus took a punt return for a touchdown
P Christian De Villers, Columbus – Average 36.8 yards per punt on five punts in the Class 4S State Championship game,
