All-State teams for the 2022 season will be dropping next week on FloridaHSFootball.com and in the led up to that, we have narrowed down the list of the five candidates that are in consideration for our Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and Coach of the Year in each of the nine classifications as well as in the Sunshine State Athletic Conference. Also, one of the players between the Offensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year candidates will be named Overall Player of the Year for their classification.
And for the second year in a row, we are giving fans a vote to decide on who will win the fan vote for each of our three categories for Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and Coach of the Year in every classification.
Voting will run through 9 PM EST / 8 PM CST on Thursday, February 16, 2023. You may vote unlimited times during the poll and the poll does have trackers to prevent bot voting.
Here are the candidates for the Class 2S Offensive Player of the Year, Class 2S Defensive Player of the Year, and Class 2S Coach of the Year along with polls for each section!
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
QB Blake Boda, Cocoa – The state’s leading passing in 2022, Boda threw for 4,028 yards and 49 touchdowns in leading the Tigers to their first state championship victory since 2016.
ATH Chauncy Cobb, Clewiston – One of the top athletes in Class 2S, Cobb had over 1,200 yards of offense and 15 touchdowns and had over 1,600 all-purpose yards playing in all facets of the game on offense, defense, and special teams.
RB Micahi Danzy, Florida High (Tallahassee) – Danzy was one of the top rushers in the state in 2022 with 191 carries for 1,890 yards and 17 touchdowns while adding eight catches for 100 yards and three more touchdowns while helping lead the Seminoles to the Class 2S state championship game.
RB Cam Smith, Baker County (Glen St. Mary) – Accounted for over 2,000 yards of offense with 1,650 yards rushing and 623 receiving yards, and 15 total touchdowns.
QB Carter Smith, Bishop Verot (Fort Myers) – Smith was another top passer this year and led the Vikings to their deepest playoff run since the 1990s with 3,104 yards passing and 29 touchdowns added with 692 yards rushing and 19 more touchdowns.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
LB Chason Clark, Bradford (Starke) – One of the top defensive players for the Tornadoes in their run to the state semifinals, Clark racked up 101 tackles, 12 tackles for loss plus added six catches for 216 yards and three touchdowns on offense.
DL D’Andrevius Dorsey, Cocoa – Dorsey was one of the big fellas up front for the Tigers in their defensive attack leading them with 9.5 sacks, along with 47 tackles, two interceptions, and forcing a fumble on the way to winning the Class 2S state championship.
ATH Cedrick Hawkins, Cocoa – A two-way athlete made his presence known on both defense and offense with 55 tackles, four interceptions along with 671 receiving yards and five touchdowns while helping the Tigers to a state championship.
LB Samadre Hawkins, Cocoa – Arguably the best defensive player for the Tigers, Hawkins led the Tigers with 105 tackles, five forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, an interception, and 1.5 sacks.
LB Ryan Knight, Florida High (Tallahassee) – One of the top defensive players for the Seminoles in their run to the state championship game, Knight had 51 tackles, 20 tackles for a loss, and 11 sacks.
COACH OF THE YEAR
Kyler Hall, Suwannee (Live Oak) – Led the Bulldogs to the regional finals, marking the deepest playoff run for Suwannee since the 2015 season when they reached the regional finals. Suwannee finished the 2022 season with a 10-3 overall record.
Jarrod Hickman, Florida High (Tallahassee) – Hickman guided the Seminoles to their second state championship game appearance in four years with the Seminoles finishing the regular season 10-0 and 14-1 overall.
Richie Rode, Bishop Verot (Fort Myers) – Rode led the Vikings to the best season in decades, reaching the state semifinals and a 10-3 overall record.
Jamie Rodgers, Bradford (Starke) – In his first season in charge of the Tornadoes, Rodgers led Bradford County to their first state semifinal appearance since the 2017 season finishing the year with a 12-2 overall record.
Ryan Schneider, Cocoa – Guided the Tigers to their first state championship since 2016 under a very tough schedule and finished the 2022 season 11-3 overall.
