Class 2S Week 3 recap report: Cocoa loss mired in controversy, rest of top 10 teams pick up wins

Not much will change in Class 2S after Top 10 teams pick up wins outside of Cocoa

Cocoa came out one-point short in a controversial game against 3M St. Thomas Aquinas while the rest of the Top 10 teams all won in Week 3.

Here is our Class 2S recap report from Week 3:

TOP 10 RECAP

1. Cocoa (2-1)

How They Fared: In a controversial 37-36 loss to 3M St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale), the Tigers appealed the game and the result due to officiating rules that were broken, according to Jon Santucci of USA Today Network Florida, but was ultimately denied by the FHSAA. Brady Hart passed for 493 yards and 5 touchdowns in the loss to the Raiders.

2. Bradford (Starke) (3-0)

How They Fared: The Tornadoes went on the road and grabbed their third victory of the season with a 32-7 victory over 3S Middleburg. However, the Tornadoes defense was unable to keep Middleburg’s offense out of the endzone on at least one possession. Dae’Jon Shanks threw for 101 yards and 2 touchdowns, along with one rushing touchdown in the victory.

3. South Sumter (Bushnell) (3-0)

How They Fared: Jamare Dorsey had a game with 14 carries for 127 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns in leading the Raiders to a 48-29 victory on the road. Malakhi Boone racked up 18 tackles and 5 tackles for loss, along with a sack, in leading the defense in the victory.

4. Florida High (Tallahassee) (1-1)

How They Fared: The Seminoles picked up their first win of the season with a 38-7 victory on the road at Lecanto. QB Jeremy Johnston threw for 173 yards and a touchdown, while Micahi Danzy scored two rushing touchdowns for the Seminoles.

5. Bishop Verot (Fort Myers) (3-0)

How They Fared: In smashing Class 3S Dunbar (Fort Myers), Carter Smith used his legs more than his arms in helping the Vikings to a 49-14 victory. In all, Smith rushed for 108 yards on 13 carries while scoring 6 touchdowns on the ground. In the air, Smith threw for 85 yards and a touchdown. On defense, the team racked up 12.5 sacks in the game, with LB Macrae Thompson leading the team with 2.5 sacks.

6. Wakulla (Crawfordville) (3-0)

How They Fared: The War Eagles rolled over 1S Munroe Day (Quincy) with a 48-7 victory. QB Haden Klees threw for 375 yards and five touchdowns in the victory for Wakulla, while Samron Brinson had 119 yards receiving and three touchdowns.

7. Pensacola Catholic (3-0)

How They Fared: The Crusaders went on the road to Fairhope, Ala., picking up a 24-10 victory to remain undefeated on the season.

8. Suwannee (Live Oak) (2-0)

How They Fared: After missing their scheduled game in Week 2 due to Hurricane Idalia, the Bulldogs picked up where they left off at, picking up a nice 33-18 victory at Chiefland. QB Kodi Lang threw for 176 yards and two touchdowns in the victory.

9. Frostproof (2-1)

How They Fared: The Bulldogs picked up their second straight win of the season with a 21-6 victory on the road at Port St. Lucie.

10. Walton (DeFuniak Springs) (3-0)

How They Fared: The Braves escaped double overtime with 1R Union County (Lake Butler), 31-28. QB Wells Betternhausen went 17-of-29 passing for 310 yards and 3 touchdowns in the victory, while WR Dalton Kolmetz had 149 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns.
