The second night of the 2024 NFL Draft saw only four athletes who played high school football in the Sunshine get selected in Rounds 2 and 3 which marks one of the quietest second night’s in recent memory of the NFL Draft involving athletes from the state of Florida. This comes on the heals after the Sunshine State saw six athletes drafted the night before in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Here is a look at who was drafted in the second and third round picks from the Sunshine State:
DT Jer’Zhan Newton
Clearwater Central Catholic

More passionately known as Johnny, Newton stood out as a defensive tackle with the Fighting Illini who earned a lot of accolades following the 2023 season as a Consenus All-American along with securing the Nagurski-Woodson Defensive Player of the Year Award and the Smith-Brown Defensive Lineman of the Year Award. Those accolades come along with being a two-time All-Big Ten selection in 2022 and 2023. All of those accoldaes led the Commanders to call on Newton as one of their newest additions to the team at Pick No. 36. Newton was also a FloridaHSFootball.com Class 3A first-team All-State selection following the 2019 season.
CB Renardo Green
Wekiva (Apopka)

To cap off the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, Renardo Green out of Wekiva call his call by the San Francisco 49ers at Pick No. 64. Green was a FloridaHSFootball.com second-team All-State selection in Class 8A as a utility athlete on defense following the 2018 season. Green singed with Florida State after his career concluded with the Mustangs and played in over 50 games as a Seminole.
DE Jalyx Hunt
Univeristy (Orange City)

Hunt became the first athlete out of University to be selected in the NFL Draft and also marked the first athlete from Houston Christian University to be selected in the NFL Draft. Hunt who started his college career at Cornell, found his best success at Houston Christian University that landed him an invite to the Reese’s Senior Bowl after the 2023 season. All of that led to the Philadelphia Eagles selecting him in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft at Pick No. 94.
SAF Kamren Kinchens
Miami Northwestern

With the second to last pick of the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft at Pick No. 99, the Los Angeles Rams gave the Bulls alum a call to bring him away from Miami-Dade County and over to the west coast of the country. Kinchens, who signed with Miami (FL) out of high school, was a FloridaHSFootball.com second-team Class 5A selection on defense following the 2020 season and was a first-team Class 5A selection on defense following the 2019 season.
