Do not let the calendar fool you… it is really late June and the first practices along with media days are just around the block next month and before you know it football season will be here come August.
Over the past few days, Broward County’s National High School Football Showcase has released their hype video for the 2024 matchups that will take place during Week 1 of the season down in Broward County featuring teams from Broward County, other regions in Florida and nationally known programs.
The matchups which will mark the third year of the matchups at various locations across Broward County are slated to be some of the best matchups yet in the series.
Matchups for the 2024 Edition of the Broward County National High School Football Showcase includes:
• Defending Class 3M State Champion St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale) hosting Bishop Gorman out of Las Vegas. The Raiders who have won five straight state championships, the first program in Florida to accomplish such a feat will take on the Gaels who are always in the mix for the national championship each season. This game is most likely slated to be aired on the ESPN family of networks over the three days.
• Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood) taking on national powerhouse St. John Bosco out California. The Lions, coming off their third-straight state championship winning-season will take on the Braves most likely at St. Thomas Aquinas with this game likely being another potential ESPN family of networks broadcast.
• American Heritage (Plantation) taking on one of the top teams from Georgia in Milton who is also in the mix for the national rankings. The Patriots taking on the Eagles will give each team a test to see if either team has what it takes to rank high in the national rankings in 2024.
• Coconut Creek taking on Miami Northwestern. The Cougars have seen some of its best success in recent years and will be taking on a rebuilding Bulls program who will see Teddy Bridgewater make his high school coaching debut officially this fall after retiring from the NFL following the 2023 season.
• Western (Davie) will host nationally-known Hoover out of Alabama who has recent playoff and state championship success, but has also struggled some as well. The Wildcats look to get a huge win against a program that football fans around the nation are very much aware of.
• Monarch (Coconut Creek) will host Peachtree Ridge out of Georgia. The Knights had their most successful season in 2023 after making a run to the Class 4M state semifinals. The Knights take on the visiting Lions who are coming off a 10-2 season in 2023 including a playoff berth in the GHSA Class 7A playoffs.
• Cardinal Gibbons (Fort Lauderdale) will host Lake Mary out of Central Florida in what is going to be a clash of two of potentially Florida’s Top 25 teams that will be filled with prospects on both teams. It would not be surprising if this another game that does land on the ESPN family of networks due to the recruiting prospects to be showcased in this game.
