ALL-STATE FOOTBALL: 2024 Class 1A All-State Football Award Winners

It is time to honor the best of the best among our All-State Honorees with our All-State Awards Selections. With the selections we have five award winners with Overall Player of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Specialist of the Year, and Coach of the Year.

While it is hard to just pick just one selection. All the athletes and coaches considered for each of the selections are very deserving of the honors.

Without further ado, here are the winners for the 2024 FloridaHSFootball.com All-State Team Awards for Class 1A and congratulations to all our award winners!

CLASS 1A OVERALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR

WR Jasen Lopez, Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood), Jr.

One of the top wide receivers in the state and nation in the 2026 class, Lopez was a consistent receiving target despite the Lions having gone through at least five quarterbacks for the duration of the 2024 season. To Lopez’s credit, with a third consecutive 1,000 yard receiving season, he hauled in 1,300 yards exactly on 87 receptions and scored 14 touchdowns. Lopez also accounted for two rushing touchdowns on offense and had a total of 1,665 all-purpose yards with kick returning and punt returning duties. On those punt return duties he recorded a touchdown, giving Lopez 17 total touchdowns on the season.

CLASS 1A OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

QB/ATH Jershaun Newton, Clearwater Central Catholic, Sr.

Enough cannot be said about Newton who has been one of the key pieces for the Marauders offense in their three consecutive state championship trips. While missing a couple of games during the season, Newton was still effective in the passing game throwing for 1,799 yards on 128-of-190 attempts and throwing 15 touchdowns against four interceptions. What is even more impressive is when Newton wasn’t throwing the ball, he was hauling down field with is feet rushing for 1,073 yards on 118 carries and scoring 13 touchdowns.

CLASS 1A DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

DL Donta Simpson Jr., Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood), Sr.

Despite missing over a month during the season, when it came to Simpson when he was a force on the field, he was a handful for other teams to deal with. Despite the fewer number of games played, in the games Simpson did play he racked up 45 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, six sacks, and blocking a field goal in leading the Lions to their four consecutive state championship and their seventh state championship in the last eight years.

CLASS 1A SPECIALIST OF THE YEAR

P Sam Sparacio, First Baptist (Naples), Jr.

For most punters, achieving an over 40-yard punt average would make them happy and most likely put them on the list for All-State recognition. With Sparacio, his 50-plus yard punt average in 2024 puts him among the top punters in the nation while being the only punter in Florida to achieve a 50-yard average in 2024.

CLASS 1A COACH OF THE YEAR

Jack Daniels, Cardinal Newman (West Palm Beach)

While there is considerable reasoning for selecting either Dameon Jones from Chaminade-Madonna or Chris Harvey from Clearwater Central Catholic, we take a look a lot of different metrics to make this decision. This is where we come to Jack Daniels and the success his Crusaders had in 2024. Not only did the schedule get beefed up, they went on the road and competed against some of the top teams in Florida in making program’s deepest playoff run in school history. Yes, not even the legendary Sam Budnyk who spent over 40 years as the head coach at Cardinal Newman did not reach the state semifinals once. As such, when looking at the history and the coaching abilities of Coach Daniels, which is well documented, the award is certainly deserving for him for the season Cardinal Newman had.
