Riverview Rams 2026 Football Preview: Schedule & Players

Riverview spent 2025 playing offense with the accelerator pinned down. The Rams averaged more than 500 yards per game, scored 67 touchdowns and won nine games during Mark Cristiani’s first season. Now comes the harder assignment: proving that production belonged to the program rather than one loaded senior class and a remarkable rushing season.

The 2025 Rams were not merely productive. They were volatile in the best way, generating 6,065 total yards while averaging 41.4 points per game. Riverview reached the regional semifinals and established a clear identity, but quarterback Parker Nippert, running backs Toryeon James and Isaiah Belt, receiver Noah Chieffo and several foundational linemen and defenders are gone. The sequel requires more construction than continuation.

This is not a weekly meat grinder, but it is strategically uncomfortable. Riverview faces difficult nondistrict tests at both ends of the calendar while carrying almost no margin for error in four district games it will be heavily favored to win.

The schedule offers Riverview a path to stack district victories, but it provides almost no gentle runway. Three of the first five opponents carry preseason ratings above 67, and the final three-game sequence includes two programs that reached state semifinals in 2025.

KEY LOSSES

Toryeon James leaves the largest hole. The transfer to Cardinal Mooney rushed for 1,941 yards and 28 touchdowns on 200 carries while adding 187 receiving yards. He accounted for 2,128 all-purpose yards and nearly 42% of Riverview’s offensive touchdowns. That is not a normal vacancy. It is an offensive redesign.

Graduation also removes Belt, who supplied 1,105 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns, and Nippert, who passed for 2,068 yards and 19 scores. Chieffo’s 824 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns are gone, as are Anthony Miller’s 597 receiving yards and a veteran offensive line anchored by Luke Chappell, Manuel Ramirez, Luke O’Brien, Grayson Martin and Nate Pastor.

The defense loses Kyvon Love, a 305-pound tackle who recorded 50 tackles, seven tackles for loss and four sacks. Safety Andon Clough added 52 tackles, while Henry Donovan contributed three tackles for loss and two sacks.

Riverview did not lose one pillar. It lost much of the building’s first floor.

Riverview’s clearest advantage is returning defensive production. Przekwas, Halperin, Farlin and Zinn have already played meaningful snaps, while Scully and Huffman represent the most established pieces of an offense replacing its leading passer, two leading rushers and two of its top three receivers.

1ST DOWN — THE GAUNTLET

The most demanding stretch is not confined to one month. It begins immediately with road games against Naples and IMG Academy Junior National, continues with Palmetto and Manatee, then reappears after the bye with Venice and Booker waiting in the final three weeks.

The opener at Naples will test whether Riverview can establish Scully and avoid asking an unsettled quarterback position to carry the offense. Venice and Booker pose a different challenge. Those games will require Przekwas, Blake and Thomas to create pressure without compromising a secondary that will be stretched vertically and horizontally.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Riverview will not be judged solely by whether it beats Venice or Booker. It will be judged by whether its new offensive core can remain functional when those opponents remove the easy answers.

2ND DOWN — STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE

The first five weeks are built to expose uncertainty. Naples, Palmetto and Manatee all rank among the preseason top 70, and IMG Academy Junior National presents another difficult road assignment. There is no month available for quietly figuring out the quarterback position.

Carrillo is the only returning passer with meaningful varsity production, but Riverview should treat the job as a competition rather than assume the depth chart is settled. His 433 passing yards provide experience, not entitlement. The more important question is whether the Rams can construct an efficient passing game around Huffman, Przekwas and an emerging group of receivers while Scully and the rebuilt offensive line establish a dependable floor.

The district schedule provides relief on paper. Lakewood Ranch, Lehigh, North Port and Sarasota all carry preseason ratings below 34. Those games must become developmental victories, not fourth-quarter escapes.

THE BOTTOM LINE: The schedule is manageable only if Riverview learns quickly. September is not preparation for the season. September is the examination.

3RD DOWN — THE PROVING GROUND

Palmetto and Manatee are the early swing games. Winning at least one would signal that Riverview’s returning defense can carry the program while the offense changes shape. Losing both would create a narrow path to another nine-win season before district play reaches its defining night.

Palmetto will challenge Farlin and the secondary after he intercepted six passes in 2025. Manatee will put Halperin, Rajzer and Zinn under the microscope between the tackles. Offensively, those games should reveal whether Scully can handle a larger workload and whether Huffman can become the primary perimeter target rather than a complementary receiver.

The Sarasota game is another quiet pressure point. It follows Venice and precedes Booker, making emotional recovery part of the test. A contender handles that trip professionally. A vulnerable team allows the schedule’s biggest games to damage the next one.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Riverview’s ceiling will be defined by its performance against Palmetto and Manatee, but its maturity will be measured one week after Venice.

4TH DOWN — PLAYOFF PICTURE

District 6A-12 runs through Venice until somebody takes it away. The Indians begin the season rated more than 25 points above Riverview, making the Oct. 16 meeting the obvious district-title hinge. The district champion earns an automatic playoff bid; every other contender must rely on its MaxPreps ranking for wildcard selection and seeding.

That makes the rest of Riverview’s schedule highly relevant. Wins over Naples, Palmetto, Manatee or Booker would strengthen the Rams’ wildcard profile, while losses to lower-rated district opponents would be especially damaging. The safest path is simple to describe and difficult to execute: beat Lakewood Ranch, Lehigh, North Port and Sarasota, then make Venice decide the championship on the field.

Przekwas and the veteran linebacker group give Riverview enough defensive credibility to remain the district’s clear second choice. The playoff path, however, depends on Carrillo or another quarterback candidate stabilizing the offense and Scully helping replace a rushing attack that lost 3,046 yards between James and Belt.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Riverview should reach the playoff bracket by sweeping the district games it is favored to win. Challenging Venice for the automatic bid requires the rebuilt offense to mature several weeks ahead of schedule.

SEASON OUTLOOK

Difficulty Rating: 8/10

An 8-2 regular season is realistic, with 7-3 representing the safer projection as Riverview replaces extraordinary offensive production. The defense must set the early pace, Scully must become a reliable featured runner and the quarterback competition must produce efficiency; otherwise, the Rams’ demanding nondistrict schedule will place a hard ceiling on the rebuild.
