COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: No. 91 Parrish Community Bulls — 2026 Season Preview, Schedule Analysis, Players to Watch and Playoff Outlook

Parrish Community enters a transition season without starting from scratch. First-year head coach Kody McNear inherits a roster with an established rushing threat, experienced defensive backs and enough returning linemen to keep the foundation intact. The question is whether that foundation can withstand a schedule that changes personality in late September.

The Bulls won nine games in 2025 behind an efficient offense and a defense that allowed 14 points per game. Quarterback Brycen Volz threw for 1,908 yards and 22 touchdowns with only one interception, while Jacoby Thomas produced 811 rushing yards, 180 receiving yards and 14 total touchdowns. That was a clean, balanced formula. Replacing the quarterback, leading receiver and most disruptive defensive lineman at the same time makes repeating it considerably harder.

The overall numbers look manageable until the schedule is separated into halves. Parrish Community’s first five opponents average a 31.35 preseason rating. Its final five average 65.29. The season does not gradually become more difficult. It hits a wall.

Parrish Community has little room for an early stumble. The Bulls should be favored or competitive through the first five weeks, but every opponent after Sarasota owns a preseason rating of at least 59.18. Banking wins before district play is not merely helpful. It is the season’s first requirement.

KEY LOSSES

The offense loses the accuracy and decision-making of Volz, who completed 64% of his passes while producing 2,185 total yards and 24 touchdowns. It also loses Brandon Trucano, whose 50 receptions, 918 yards and nine receiving touchdowns accounted for nearly half of the team’s passing yardage. That is not a routine reload. Those were the players who kept the offense on schedule.

The transfer departures cut deeper. Defensive tackle Kaleb Exume moved to Cardinal Mooney after recording 78 tackles, 22.5 tackles for loss, six sacks and 26 quarterback hurries. Nathan Schueller transferred to Saint Stephen’s Episcopal after catching 44 passes for 460 yards and three touchdowns. Together, they remove a premier interior disruptor and the team’s second-leading receiver.

The Bulls must also replace several senior defensive producers, including Mar’Keyon Maxwell, Braydon Jacobson, J’air Speaks and Alex Eldredge. That group combined for 302 tackles, eight sacks and six interceptions. The returning defense has experience, but it no longer has the same margin for error.

Thomas is the centerpiece. He accounted for 1,168 all-purpose yards and scored once every 10.4 offensive touches in 2025. With Volz and Trucano gone, the Bulls need more than another productive season from him. They need an offense capable of bending around his versatility.

McDonald becomes the defensive anchor after finishing second on the team with 99 tackles. Baker’s development matters just as much. Exume’s departure removes 22.5 tackles for loss from the front, and the Bulls cannot replace that pressure with reputation.

1ST DOWN — THE GAUNTLET

The defining stretch begins against Palmetto in Week 6 and never really ends. Parrish Community faces five consecutive opponents rated inside the preseason top 112, including three district games and an IMG Academy Junior National team carrying a 62.16 rating. Four of those five opponents won at least seven games in 2025.

The bye between Palmetto and Sumner is useful, but it does not soften the assignment. The Bulls must survive Palmetto’s physicality, travel to Sumner, handle IMG’s athleticism and then face the schedule’s highest-rated team when Manatee visits in Week 10.

Thomas and Larsen will have to keep Parrish Community out of obvious passing situations. On defense, Baker must create disruption up front while McDonald prevents explosive plays from becoming touchdowns. This stretch will expose any position group that is merely adequate.

Manatee’s losing record is misleading. The Hurricanes still reached a regional final and enter 2026 with the district’s highest preseason rating. Palmetto brings a cleaner résumé, having won 10 games and advanced to a regional semifinal.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Parrish Community’s season will be judged by how it responds after the schedule stops offering comfortable Fridays. The Bulls do not need to dominate the gauntlet. They need to remain functional inside it.

2ND DOWN — STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE

The early schedule gives McNear a legitimate runway. Lakewood Ranch, Riverview, Bayshore, Palm Harbor University and Sarasota all sit outside the preseason top 280. That creates five weeks to settle the quarterback competition, rebuild the receiver rotation and determine which linemen can handle expanded roles.

That development window is especially important for Seymour and the other quarterback candidates. Whoever wins the job will not be asked to replace Volz by imitation. Volz threw 22 touchdowns against one interception. Expecting an inexperienced passer to reproduce that efficiency immediately would be unrealistic.

The better approach is to lean on Thomas, use Larsen as a complementary runner and let the passing game grow without carrying the offense. Rivera offers returning varsity experience at receiver, while Robinson and Juanmiguel Genao-Tordesillas could provide additional options if their offensive roles expand.

The back half allows no hiding place. Parrish Community’s final five opponents have a combined 39-20 record from 2025. That is where the quarterback situation moves from preseason question to weekly pressure point.

THE BOTTOM LINE: The schedule is built for development early and examination late. Parrish Community must use August and early September as a laboratory because October will feel like an audit.

3RD DOWN — THE PROVING GROUND

The swing games arrive before the marquee matchups. Road dates against Riverview and Sarasota will reveal whether the Bulls can handle opponents they are capable of beating without the departed senior core. Palm Harbor University is another important checkpoint: stronger on paper than the other early opponents, but still a game Parrish Community needs if it intends to enter district play with momentum.

Those games will test Seymour or whichever quarterback emerges without requiring him to win a shootout. They will also show whether Thomas can produce efficiently when every defense knows he is the first name on the scouting report.

Defensively, McDonald, Robinson and Baker must establish the unit’s new identity. McDonald has to turn his tackling production into command of the secondary. Robinson must convert pass breakups into takeaways. Baker must prove the defensive front can generate pressure without Exume occupying multiple blockers.

Plant City in Week 11 could become the final referendum. After four straight high-level tests, the Bulls will either enter that game battle-hardened or worn down. There may be no middle ground.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Parrish Community’s ceiling will not be defined solely by Palmetto or Manatee. It will be defined by whether the Bulls consistently win the games that precede them.

4TH DOWN — PLAYOFF PICTURE

District 5A-10 is compact and unforgiving. Parrish Community, Manatee, Palmetto and Sumner all enter the season inside the preseason top 91, with only 9.85 rating points separating the four teams. There is no soft district game and no obvious team to play around.

The district champion receives an automatic playoff bid. Everyone else must rely on MaxPreps positioning for a wildcard berth and seeding, making non-district results important even before the first district snap. A strong start would give Parrish Community protection against a 1-2 district record. A shaky start would make every late loss more expensive.

Thomas is central to that path because he gives the Bulls a reliable production base against elite opponents. McDonald and Baker are equally important on the other side. Parrish Community is unlikely to win this district by trading touchdowns for four quarters. The defense must create shorter fields and steal possessions.

The Bulls enter fourth by preseason rating, but this is not a district with an overwhelming favorite. Parrish Community gets Palmetto and Manatee at home, an important scheduling edge. The road trip to Sumner follows the bye, giving McNear extra preparation time for the district’s only away game.

THE BOTTOM LINE: A district title is attainable but cannot be the only route Parrish Community prepares for. The practical playoff formula is to dominate the early schedule, split the district home games and keep the MaxPreps résumé strong enough to survive the standings.

SEASON OUTLOOK

Difficulty Rating: 8/10

A 7-3 regular season is realistic, with 8-2 available if the quarterback transition goes smoothly and the defense replaces enough of its lost pressure production. The ceiling will be limited if opponents can overload the box against Thomas or if Exume’s departure leaves the front without a consistent disruptor.
