The Sunshine State Athletic Association’s 8-Man league is starting to see the contenders separate themselves and in Week 3 action, several notched victories to put them on the radar for a potential state championship.
Here is our SSAA 8-Man recap report from Week 3:
TOP 10 RECAP
1. Shorecrest Prep (St. Petersburg) (3-0)
How They Fared: The Chargers continue their winning ways with another victory this time with a 45-12 victory over Countryside Christian (Gainesville). Nikolas Bearden threw for 2 touchdowns along with a rushing touchdown while the team defensively recorded 5 sacks total.
2. Donahue Catholic (Ave Maria) (3-0)
How They Fared: The Shamrocks picked up their third straight victory to remain undefeated on the season with a 47-6 victory over Classical Academy (Sarasota). Leo Cantwell rushed for 258 yards on six carries, scoring four touchdowns for Donahue Catholic.
3. Master’s Academy (Vero Beach) (3-0)
How They Fared: The Patriots kept their winning ways going, knocking off previously undefeated Lake Mary Prep 36-12. Caleb Cotton went 9-of-17 passing for 120 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 122 yards and two more touchdowns.
4. Canterbury (St. Petersburg) (0-1)
How They Fared: Finally taking the field for the first game of the season, the Crusaders came up short against Sarasota Christian with a 22-14 loss. Roman Wilder rushed for 153 yards and two touchdowns in the game for Canterbury.
5. Sarasota Christian (4-0)
How They Fared: The second-year Blazers remain undefeated with a 22-14 victory over Canterbury (St. Petersburg) thanks to Justin Brock’s 134 yards passing and a touchdown, along with Daniel Jacinto scoring two rushing touchdowns. Jacinto also led the team defensively in tackles with 13.
6. Countryside Christian (Gainesville) (1-1)
How They Fared: The Cougars suffered their first loss of the season with 45-12 loss at Shorecrest Prep (St. Petersburg).
7. Lake Mary Prep (3-1)
How They Fared: The Griffins took their first loss of the year against Master’s Academy (Vero Beach) with a 36-12 defeat.
8. Riverside Christian (Trenton) (3-0)
How They Fared: The Wranglers defeated first-year program Geneva School (Casselberry) 53-8 to remain undefeated on the season. QB Kyle Spratlin rushed for 95 yards and three touchdowns, while Jhonny Taylor rushed for 119 yards and 2 touchdowns in the victory for Riverside Christian. OLB Jason Aker recorded two interceptions in the win.
9. Merritt Island Christian (3-1)
How They Fared: The Mustangs won 62-22 over Geneva Classical (Lakeland) to pick up their third victory of the year. Bode Handwork threw for 165 yards and 4 touchdowns and recorded a rushing touchdown to lead Merrit Island Christian to the victory. Trey Nevad had 110 yards receiving and 3 touchdowns while the defense record 8 sacks with Anthony Alessandrini leading with 2.5 sacks who also led the team in tackles with 9.
10. Florida Deaf & Blind (St. Augustine)
How They Fared: A two-point conversion was the difference in the loss for the Dragons as they fell to Old Plank Christian (Jacksonville), 30-28.
