Eight spring questions for defending state champions
STARaiders2014 replied to Joshua Wilson's topic in The Huddle
I would take a 14-1 STA state title too lol I think everyone outside of BTW would because that'd mean the streak would end, but that just means another one is going to start. -
Rivalries: List your favorite rivalry and why
STARaiders2014 replied to Joshua Wilson's topic in The Huddle
They maintain themselves typically in terms of how close the schools are, but also just on pure tradition. BTW and Central are kind of writing their tradition right now, but those kids mostly all know eachother and don't live too far apart. On the other hand if you look at a rivalry like Northwestern/Jackson and all the history behind it that alone keeps the fans and alums coming to the games. That game has lost the luster it had in the 90s and 00s but is still a big time game. At least to those schools. -

That is honestly a great question! This will be their 3rd coach since the streak started. Ice has moved on to The U and his son is now at FIU. It just seems to be next man up in Overtown. However, when you have the kind of talent it makes coaching a lot easier! -
Does the level of play seem to be down this season in Florida?

As much as I love my SFLA football....it is possible. Just gotta see if a team steps up in 2015. -

South Florida's talent pool is a rarity across this nation. I don't think there are more than 5 areas that have that kind of talent just flowing out of it like the tri county(Dade, Broward, Palm Beach) do. -

Apopka is north, maybe not by much but they are in the north. North Florida does have great football you are right, but the title games don't always reflect it. -
It would be tough, but it might be a neat little project to do sometime!

Finalized districts are out from the FHSAA

Not a clue -
I am back! Had some stuff to take care of, but it's go time! Truthfully this game excites me! 41 game winning streak of BTW vs the tradition of STA. I truly wish this game happened 2-3 years ago, but it is happening now. I'll give more analysis as we get closer to the season, but with both teams having new head coaches that should make for one interesting start.

I think most of us can agree that Aquinas will probably come out of the South and get to Orlando in 2015. However, the North is a bit more interesting. Will Lincoln make another run like 2012? Will Osceola get a rematch? Maybe Niceville? Your thoughts?

STA will win their district. I hate how we got thrown in there with Ft. Lauderdale and Blanche Ely. No offense to those two programs but Ely is not what they were 10-15 years ago and Ft. Lauderdale is not scaring anyone. I am not hating on those programs, it is just simply the truth.

Great post! I think you are right though. As teams in North Florida rise up and begin to compete a little more it'll make the state better as a whole. However, with Central, BTW, and STA dominating 4A, 6A, and 7A. It could be a bit before we see the Northern teams make an impact in those classes. However, in 8A Apopka which surprised a lot of people I think proved that the North is right up there with the South in terms of competing for a title. -
What do you mean? Like the greatest dynasties all the way back to the 1920s?

The game you are most looking forward to this season

Aquinas vs BTW. Obviously it isn't taking place when we all wanted it to like Aquinas/Northwestern a few years ago, but I am still excited to play a team with a 41 game winning streak and the team that has been the standard over the last 4+ years in Florida. -
Sad situation when you win your first district title in 35 years and then leave due to distrust amongst the players. Hopefully a new coach can continue the success and also bring the team together.

The Chafie Fields game was in 1999. You add a signature by going to your profile. Clicking "edit profile" and then on the left it should say "signature" you can make it there. -

The Chafie Fields game...I remember that one. I also remember whopping them infront of a record crowd in Happy Valley which I loved more than anything. -

No, because Butch while he only beat FSU once. He got better every year, beat UCLA in 1998 and never lost a bowl game. We haven't won a bowl game since 2006. It needs to change if Miami wants to get back on the right track. -
North Central Florida Preseason Top 10

I remember when Columbia played in their state title game at the Swamp in 98? Maybe 97. The crowd made my jaw drop I was blown away by the amount of people they brought. Regardless of location it was impressive! -
I'd love to play Columbia. However, unless Columbia becomes a top team in FLA it probably won't happen because STA typically always schedules top caliber talent.
