  1. Or just kept the RPI but yeah I agree the actual MaxPreps rankings weren't any worse at it's job than the point system
  2. Way I see it is if you can't win your district then you don't deserve an automatic bid and need to EARN it with your body of work over the entire season
  3. Just being second in a crappy district doesn't make a team worthy You said it best at the first sentence "The simple answer is for teams to win their district games. " In other words, win district or be at the mercy of a wild card birth The NFL does this just fine so why can't high school football do it? Not every district deserves more than a single team
  4. When you had district champs/runner ups you also had no value for non district games which devalued a lot of rivalries
  5. Again win district and your in, don't win it and your at mercy of wild card It actually increases the value of district games because it's the ONLY guaranteed path to the playoffs
  6. The problem is when you have someone who IS a top 8 team in the region and get left out because one district is weaker you WILL have blowouts And as teams deserve to be represented from their region teams who are clearly more deserving have earned the right to host games which wasn't present in the old system
  7. The way the MaxPreps formula is If we get Rockledge it's likely gonna be at Rockledge not Lake City
  8. So what go to 2 or 3 metro divisions with larger districts? Honestly I don't see how runner up is better than wild cards because it basically makes it clear if you don't win district you don't control your destiny which I'm perfectly fine with Either way larger districts are fine with me but I hate the MaxPreps formula as it seems to reward weak minded scheduling
  9. The switch to MaxPreps sent us backwards I don't see why we didn't just keep the RPI because it was a set formula that we could understand by doing simple math
  10. RPI was definitely better and wasn't impacted by previous seasons results like these MaxPreps rankings are
  11. That is actually a pretty good idea and gets rid of the one argument that people would have against MOV
  12. Their SOS is horrendous and even if they host entire playoffs they will find a way to blow it
  13. You should come check out a game in Lake City sometime
  14. Figured this would apply here as well TBH I don't get why anyone gets bothered by the jersey thing but I'm so glad we beat Madison County in our first ever time wearing black jerseys otherwise I'm sure that the fanbase would have been blaming the jerseys for our performance like they did with the grey ones (we would have lost to Apopka in any jerseys because of how undisciplined we played that 2015 game but the alumni and even some coaches blamed the jerseys)
  15. Yeah it is and that's the type of thing that will get exposed against elite teams I felt going into the season that Dillard had a shot to win at least 1 of the major games in the regular season and so far Dillard has seemingly competed for about a half with both before falling apart and getting trampled in the second half, I hope they can do better against STA but STA has seemingly stepped up a bit the last few weeks, the one playing the first 2-3 weeks seemed a bit vulnerable (may still be) but I'm concerned that Dillard hasn't progressed to the point that I felt they needed to in order to beat them Dillard may actually have a better starting lineup than STA, especially in the trenches. However STA has the depth advantage and if Dillard can't pull the trigger in the second half they may not be able to hold a lead long enough to beat STA. Just like last year Dillard needs to limit mistakes and find ways to win on "extra" possessions whether that's punt returns, kick returns or defensive TD's if they want to win and they need to limit turnovers. If they blow possessions like they did against Central or mentally collapse like they did against Chaminade then STA will feed off of that easily
  16. It's not You have maybe 4-5 teams in the entire state that would look competitive in some of the weaker regions in Florida but nothing that would compare with any top 50 level team in Florida
  17. I would say Suwannee over North Marion likely bigger upset because at least with Columbia vs Union County both teams are actually good Suwannee is terrible and yet still found a way to beat an unbeaten North Marion team, I can't remember the last time Suwannee beat a good team? Maybe the 90s?
  18. I always loved the purple helmets for Columbia and even without a decal the purple looks so much better than the yellow one with that LSU knockoff decal I would rather them just get rid of the decal and go with plain helmets like they are with the purple as that's an upgrade over the LSU thing they normally use
  19. Well the black has a mix of gold and purple in it, I have no issue with color meshing with alternates as long as the school colors are in it, idk if you saw the black but it did have purple and gold in it and at the end of the day the players loved it and high school sports is for the kids at the end of the day so if they happy what's the harm in throwing an alternate color out once or twice a season I honestly wish the gators would take the UF gator logo and put it on the helmet (like they did the game they wore the gator skin jerseys) Even if they don't bring the gator skin one back I would like to see that helmet make a return
  20. Columbia wore black jerseys against Madison and they looked great! Especially with the purple helmet which Columbia looked good in during late 90s to mid 00s I honestly wish the gators would modernize the helmet decal as it looks so cheap currently, there's so much they could do with it but just having gators written out seems lazy
  21. No system will ever work to keep bad teams out of the playoffs If 2/3 teams in the region make the playoffs That's just numbers
  22. Suwannee doesn't want to play Columbia in ANY sport because they would rather claim we have gang issues in Lake City and garner sympathy even though they have no problem playing teams in Tallahassee or Jacksonville that have gang issues far worse than Lake City and it's not like Live Oak doesn't have its own issues with gang violence As for the system I have always preferred wild cards over runner ups because better districts deserve more than 2 teams and having that system in theory will reward teams who play tougher schedules by giving them the ability to get a higher seed Than a team who goes undefeated by getting 10 easy wins against teams they managed to find that were willing to take a blowout for a paycheck And I've argued for years that ever since 1a removed districts that there is no reason they can't do 2 regions instead of 4 which would cut down on a lot of the teams who have gotten in with 2 or 3 wins over the past few years which is only happening because of how small the regions are
  23. Oh I agree MaxPreps rankings are horrible and even worse seems to not only give teams a favorable position based on last season results but also favors teams who are undefeated with pathetic schedules The last 2 aspects of that weren't as common with the RPI but MaxPreps caters to the teams who hated that they couldn't game the system and go undefeated with weak schedules and were forced to travel to cross town rivals who they "think" are recruiters because they actually win and beat strong teams I would have at least liked to seen the RPI in action for a year with the current classification changes instead of switching to MaxPreps which seemingly is creating more problems then it solved
  24. RPI was fine If anything I wish they moved every sport to the RPI system because at least the RPI didn't give teams a favorable head start based on LAST SEASON
  25. Anyone who claims to support competition but wants only a few games a year to count towards playoff standings IS A HYPOCRITE!!! NO IFS AND OR BUTS! HYPOCRITE! HYPOCRITE! HYPOCRITE!
