  1. For all of you knowledgeable folks and coaches out there. Which formation is:

    Wing T

    Proset

    Spread

    Option

    Other

    * The most difficult to implement for HS teams? - any multiple QB read offense (pro style or spread)

    * The most difficult to defend against for HS teams?- Double wing (not many use it but run behind the scrum, you have to crab legs or get gashed)

    * The most currently utilized by Florida HS teams?-I think most teams run spread or pistol now a days

    * The best formation, for a player to learn, that will enhance their opportunity for offers by colleges?  it really doesn't matter! recruiting is very different. the key is combine and exposure, stats don't even matter when getting recruited anymore. its more about hight, weight, 40. colleges look for 5 star athletes and believe they can put them in their system through coaching

  2. Blitzing is usually useless - best thing a DL can do to bottle-up the single wing's off tackle and power is to submarine. It's a brutal job, but someone has to do it. Against most SW blocking rules that I know of, stemming and slanting doesn't make one whit of difference. Against a well-coached SW team, you have to hope they beat themselves. Know what Apopka's win/loss in the last 10 years? 110-27.

I think slanting into the play helps a lot, but guess wrong on you are out the gate. I think it takes a lot of discipline in your lb.'s to cross read it. not that they compare but slanting helped a lot vs Chamberlain's single wing a few years ago (not that they are as good as APK)

  3. In a single wing wouldn't the goal be to press the outside so they can only run into the middle and cut down the shifts impact?

No because power is their main play and it will still break.

You have to stem and slant and keep your second level clean

  4. Flexbone is a wing t variation that only runs wishbone plays out of it. Wishbone is easy to stop by closing down the backfield so the flexbone is a modern adjustment. Flexbone teams do not claim to be wing t.

I would not defend them the same.

The single wing uses unbalanced concepts and shifts to out flank their opponent.

Wing t you must play assignment football to find the ball and misdirection keys.

Both need to cross read backs and play defense without a football

  5. The advantage to using unorthodox offenses is that teams rarely use them so opponents do not know how to prepare or defend against them. Of course all young coaches want to run spread so not many teams run triple option or wing t offenses.

I believe lake region ran single wing last fall.

When st Augustine and rockledge were great they ran wing t

I believe port st. Joe does but they run it out of the gun and called it the sling t

  6. Wing T and single wing are both 4 back attacks but built differently. The true wingt t has a backfield like pro style far and near with a wing to the tight end side. Most modern wing t teams use two slot backs and use flexbone plays employed by Georgia tech and navy.

The single wing has also been called the wildcat and was used during the 4 horseman of noted dame's newt rockney days. It uses shifts and missdirction by the 4 backs in a shotgun formation.

    Hope this helps

  7. Buchholtz is going to be a power this season. They were very good in 2015, 10-2 with a very close loss to Columbia, and they are bringing most of their team back with the exception of their QB. They will be a majority Senior laden team. I'm researching them now as Trinity Catholic plays them in August in a KO Classic. A 3A team against a very tough 7A team. And, we have to play them in Gainesville. Oh,well. Should tell us where we stand for the upcoming season.

the classification size doesn't matter if both teams have 60 kids

  8. Padded camps tell you how physical your players can be and are great for evaluating the physically of your team. However scores can be misleading. the success of individual plays and who executed in those plays is a greater barometer of future success

  9. I am not attached to any team.  I coached in Hillsborough and Pinellas for a long time.  Making the move to Palm Beach county later on this month.  Not likely to coach this fall so I am just a football fan.

I like Strawberry Crest over Middleton this fall  B)
