  1. I really think you have to base it on the previous years teams talent, look at what key losses there were what key additions there are and look at the younger players that are moving up into key positions.  7 on 7 camps allow you to see how well the backs and receivers are working full contact team camps allow you to look at your team as a whole.  The spring games are a pretty good indicator of your team but do not reflect transfers over the summer.  Basically you guess at how good everyone is and find out for real in December.

  2. Until somebody knocks Trenton off they should be favored, they lost some key components i.e. head coach and some players but they had depth and the new coach is a proven winner.  Madison being a bigger school should be the best but they should have been the best last year.  Trenton's game against Wakulla will be a great test the War Eagles can be downright nasty but I think had they met last year Trenton would have won.

  3. I somewhat agree with u their shark they would have still been a really good team without him,but Do you think they would have beat Madison county without him? He made some game changing plays in that game, I didn't see it but heard a lot about it

He is definitely a great player but that entire team was something special, but I'm sure someone else would step up.  They were dominant on both sides of the ball against everyone they played. They beat Madison by nine but it just seemed close because that's the only game that didn't have a running clock.  I know I must sound like a Trenton fan but I am not I just appreciate watching great team I just wish they hadn't been in 1A lol.

  4. I don't know how I missed Lincoln. They are definitely top 10 but I don't think they quo be anything like the old lincoln. Chile's pulls from Lincolns old area and seems to be on the right track now. I look for chiles to be the dominant team in tally foe the years to come. Jefferson County is definitely one to keep an eye on. Talent rich area paired with good coaching they will be good and possibly great.

  5. 1. Wakulla

    2. Madison County

    3. NFC

    4. Chiles

    5. Rickards

    6. Lincoln

    7. Godby

    8. Florida High

    9. Leon

    10. Rutherford

Rutherford is panhandle and only won 3 games last year. They did win 2 district games and made the playoffs but were not a strong team.  I haven't heard any real positives this summer but we will see what kind of turnout they have Aug. 1st

  6. Blountstown is always talented and well coached every year I would expect nothing less this year. FWB will be good again and probably very soon but I think it will take this year. Your list looks good I would just have FWB out and PSJ and Blountstown in the 9 to 10 range maybe even tied for 10th.

  7. 1. Niceville

    2. Tate

    3. Pine Forest ( my sleeper team in the panhandle this year

    4. Escambia

    5. Navarre

    6. FWB

    7. West Florida

    8. Walton

    9. Pensacola Catholic

    10. Pensacola

Wow, Port St Joe and Blountstown don't even crack your top ten.

  8. Ok I see the point but tell me that no one would make them number 1 team in nation?

I would if I thought they were but I don't know that they are the best in Fl.  Look at these national powerhouse schools in other states, parents move their kids from other states to those schools from all over just to play somewhere that they can get national acclaim.  Heck it happens around our state with parents moving into another district just so their son can be on a team with more talent or better coaching.  I'm sure there are kids at Columbia whose parents moved them there to be part of that program and the parent just have a long commute to work.  By the way this doesn't have anything to do with a school recruiting players just parents doing whats best for their kid.

  9. There is nothing wrong with what IMG does.  They recruit nationally so they aren't really diluting the talent pool in Florida.  They are independent so they aren't knocking a public school out of the playoffs.  They only play teams that want to play them.  If a kid has the money or the talent they can give him the coaching and specialized training to get farther than he would otherwise.  I understand not wanting to rank them but when they are included in rankings it shows what a great job the schools ranked around them are doing considering IMG is a national team.

  10. Booker T. Washington is located in Overtown an historically black improvised neighborhood. The enrollment is and I'm taking an estimated guess here at 950 students which puts them in 4A. Now out of the 950 students half is Hispanic because of the Wynwood area and a certain part of Lil Havana feeds into the school and most would consider these inner city areas with so much going on that it's hard for a lot of the neighbouring kids to attend the school. Overtown area has the home grown talent so except for a few transfers in majority like 95% of the kids live in the neighborhood. I say all of this to say that the throne will be here for a long time so I can't say when they'll fall and due to the demographics it's gonna be hard for the school enrollment to increase leaving them in 4A.

Thank you for the insight.  Sometimes it is hard to see what the makeup of schools are when you are not familiar with the area.  The difference between the rural areas and urban areas is pretty drastic but the common thread that winners have is heart and desire and kids counting on a better future through athletics.

  11. I wish everyone that follows high school football would read this article.  I can't tell you how many times I've heard people criticizing coaches and bringing up that they get paid "a lot of money".  I know a lot of coaches and not only do they get very little money but they usually end up putting that money back into the program for various expenses that the school doesn't pay for.  A lot of kids are only eating at school the coaches make sure they get fed.  A lot of kids only have team clothes to wear I know you all know some of these kids, the coaches find them those clothes even if it's a t-shirt celebrating the girls district track championship in 2008.  These coaches are there for these kids when they get into trouble, when their grades slip, when their mother dies, when their father abuses them,  when the whole world turns against them. I know the hard work these guys put in coaching, mentoring, tutoring, feeding, clothing, transporting these kids.  Head coaches get very little and many assistants get nothing.  Coaches are the last chance a lot of these kids have to keep them focused on education and bettering themselves.  It is a lot cheaper to pay coaches than to build prisons.  Anytime you hear someone going off about a coach ask them what positive influence they've had on a kids life, because most coaches are doing yeoman's work for the love of the kids and the game.

  12. I figured as much...I think a lot of recent transfers are generally in the Jacksonville/ Tampa/Orlando and maybe Brevard county area. A lot did happen this spring in those areas and there had to have been people on here that heard about them but just don't post .  Maybe we are just over-reporting it down here....

All hell may break loose in the next 3 weeks.  Kids and parents on the fence wanting to make the right decision.  Do want to start for a losing team or be a backup for a contender?  Do you want to give up your QB gig to be a WR or DB? Where will I get the most exposure? I imagine a lot of households are having conversations over those questions.

  13. I doesn't bother me .....  It is just the hypocrisy of it all and the fact that no one in central or north FL update on the transfers.  Several of us in SFL try to keep everyone in the loop with transfers and it is as SFL is the only place it happens in the state?  Well, obviously it's not.  Here you have a former state championship team, consistently a state contender and for months no one mentioned anything about a mother-load heading to Cocoa.  People are too busy looking at the SFL transfers I guess.  In the end, I simply keep up with transfers for transparency and team forecasts purposes and find it interesting what kids will land where.  I also have always tried to made it a practice not to accuse one of wrongdoing.  The only somewhat wrongdoing here is it seems 95% of the Palm Beach/Broward/Dade transfers are transparent, the rest of the state - not so much.

As of a couple days ago it does not matter anyway.

I honestly haven't heard of any notable transfers around us. A few young guys here and there but no one that has any name recognition.
