  1. We only have a population of 3400 but I imagine most of them plus whatever Trenton brings. I imagine a lot of outside interest will be there as well. No snakeheads up here yet. The World Famous Dead Lakes are just 20 miles north of us in Wewahitchka, great largemouth and panfish.
  2. That's the one I'm most looking forward to also. I don't know what the Tigersharks will bring to the table this year but Trenton is the top dog so might as well see how we measure up early. Last years Trenton team was unbelievable, no weak link. We will see what lessons were learned by PSJ last year. As far as seating I don't know the capacity but it will be full, we have portable seating that can be moved in. We also have an enthusiastic but very respectful fan base so it is a family friendly crowd.
  3. Which one game are you most looking forward to and why?
  4. Yeah Brandon at one time I think 1983 had 5000 students(largest in the state) and a formidable football team. Plant City was their most hated rival at the time. Armwood was built out of Brandon in '84 but AHS football was not what it now so that was never the rivalry it should have been. There are so many new schools in Hillsborough it has to be hard to keep a rivalry going. That is the nice thing about the rural schools kids can hate the same rivals their grandparents hated lol.
  5. Great insights coach you are obviously doing things right. I won't ask your school but, what general area are you from?
  6. College recruiting has changed so much in recent years between hudl and youtube players can get exposure that they couldn't get before. I think the players transferring now (see how I got this back to the thread) can go somewhere to play for a championship or play in a system that suits their style of play. Tranferring to a 7A or 8A school that loses in the first or second round is no more exposure than 1A-4A that makes it to the semis or finals.
  7. Back in the day Brandon vs Plant City
  8. Good to have you on board Panhandlecola, nice to have a pcola perspective.
  9. Can you imagine being a player going into your senior year and your school doing away with football. I hope everything works out for the kids and the coaches.
  10. 1. You make your own luck. 2. Every team loses key players every year. 3. The fact that you had 23 seniors is remarkable. I don't think Broward is trying to beat you up here but just trying to get you to examine your team not as a fan but as an unbiased observer so that you can see what needs to be done to bring home a title. Do you need a coaching change? Do you need to be more selective in picking varsity players? Do you need more money for equipment and facilities? Are you happy with with just being really good or are you willing to do what it takes to be the best?
  11. If you look at the list a lot of the same teams kept popping up. The Pensacola area has puzzled me at one time that was some of the best HS football anywhere but now not that good. I don't know if it has to do with the military cutbacks in the area or what. Panama City area teams have been weak for a while. Lincoln was good for a while but when Chiles opened in Tally it really seemed to hurt Lincoln. There is still quality ball played in Gainesville. Wakulla is traditionally strong. 1A is the strongpoint and they are able to compete with some of the larger schools,. I can't really explain the falloff at the bigger schools in recent years but I think having the right coach is key.
  12. I wouldn't say it's bad part of Fl for high school football. The reason there are more good teams in the south is that there are so many more schools. Take the Jacksonville schools out of the north and you will find very few schools. Tallahassee/Leon County for example has only has only 8 high schools. That is the biggest metropolitan area up here. I think what hurts the larger schools is the lack of similar sized competition. Just some info on state champions out of North Florida excluding Jax/St Augustine and everything south of Chiefland. 2000- 4A Pine Forest 1A North Fl Christian 2001- 4A Lincoln 2A Madison Co 1A NFC 2005- 1A Port St Joe 2006- 1B FAMU 2007- 2A Madison Co 2008- 1A NFC 2009- 3A Pensacola 2010- 4A Lincoln 2011- 2A NFC 1A Jefferson Co 2012- 5A Godby 1A Northview 2013- 1A Trenton 2014 -1A Port St Joe 2015- 1A Trenton The championships are mostly in the smaller classes but there is quality football played in north Florida. If you throw in Jacksonville the numbers really jump. I think the north does pretty good considering the sparse population.
  13. 7 on 7 is great for building chemistry between qb and receivers. It is a great way to get live reps in. I do think you need to get your backs and receivers into a skills camp so they can work with coaches other than their regular coaches, and get some individual instruction for their position. I will say that whether its a 7 on 7, position camp, or team camp it will all help players immensely. Also keeping kids busy keeps them out of trouble.
  14. I am not sure how much of an indicator 7 on 7 is concerning future success. No real contact and no line play, it's basically if you have faster guys that can catch and someone who can get the ball to them you're good 7 on 7. We see teams that look good 7 on 7 against a team that would blow them out in real action. It is useful practice but hard to know just how good teams really are.
  15. I didn't make it I was at down and dirty. Talked to one of the coaches there but he only wanted to talk about his guys. I did hear Madison had Godby 19 zip at half in the championship game.
  16. Madison county wins Wakulla 7 on 7. Godby Franklin Co Rickard NFC Suwanee Taylor co Madison Wakulla and 2 more teams. Looks like the rest of 1A had their work cut out.
  17. Camp 1 wrapped up today. Some good looking kids out there, I'm sure camp 2 starting tomorrow will have a lot of talent too.
  18. 7 on 7 camp tomorrow at Wakulla. The only other team I know of so far is Franklin County.
  19. What's your favorite high school football tradition? ie. Port St Joe's Blood Trail, Lakeland ringing that dang bell etc.
  20. Yep a lot of the top programs are there
  21. I'm sure it didn't help. Maybe an 18-2 record and he gets some more time lol
  22. Well that will do it every time
  23. Here's the link to check it out. http://abcsportscamps.com/downanddirty Sorry I should have posted the info earlier but it's definitely worth the ride if you have a free Thursday or Sunday afternoon this week.
  24. I hate to see anyone fire a coach in the summer. Unless you move up an assistant it pretty much screws up your whole year. It just makes more sense to make the move in January so the coach leaving can find something and you have time to find the right man to move forward. That being said 2-18 is inexcusable for a program like FWB to only win 2 games in 2 years.
