  1. It's true what you say. 3A TCA is a private parochial school that has about 550 to 600 students. 3A OTC is a private parochial school that has about 550 to 600 students. According to Maxpreps TCA has a roster of 71. OTC has a roster of 41. I'll let the numbers do the talking.
  2. Just mulling over TCA and their roster for 2016/17. Notice that their starting QB Billy Cobb, top RB Jalin Buie, and one of their top WR's Damien McGhee all graduated. Also notice that they are no longer a Senior laden team as they were last year. Will they be beatable and possibly may not make it all the way in 2016? I am of course looking forward to Trinity Catholic being somewhat as good as they were in the glory years and challenging TCA like we did in the past. We would not meet them until the 3rd round and would probably have to get by Tampa Catholic in the 2nd round, including whoever is there in the 1st round. Any ideas?
  3. Let me ask you something. Have you ever attended a Vanguard game? If not how are you so confident about what Vanguard can do or not do? Not trying to get into an argument. Just trying to figure out where you're coming from with regard to the Knights. I have never attended any games of the teams that you mention where Vanguard would not have a chance, so my opinion about those teams wouldn't mean much. Now, if you are a professional who delves into the pros and cons of Florida teams, then I defer to you. However, if you are just a team fan, like I am, then I'm wondering whether I should take "this 6A north nonsense" seriously.
  4. For all of you knowledgeable folks and coaches out there. Which formation is: Wing T Proset Spread Option Other * The most difficult to implement for HS teams? * The most difficult to defend against for HS teams? * The most currently utilized by Florida HS teams? * The best formation, for a player to learn, that will enhance their opportunity for offers by colleges?
  5. If they can get past the 1st and 2nd round and still be undefeated, they have the best chance of defeating Armwood. Vanguard has to run the table in and out of their district and then win convincingly in the first two rounds, then they can beat Armwood. They have the horses. If they lose to a team like North Marion or Gainesville, during the regular season, they would never beat Armwood.
  6. Vanguard has the best QB since Daunte Culpepper in 1994. Daunte Culpepper - 3,074 Yds passing, 31 TDs N'Kosi Perry - 2,307 Yds passing, 32 TDs. Nearly 300 on the ground. They have a compliment of Senior WR's, each one contributing. So, there are not one or two main receivers out there. They can all hurt you. RB Justin Watkins is one of the fastest RB's in the state. Vanguard is also a Senior laden team with good experience at most positions. However, the proof will be how they execute in each and every game. They cannot have any letdowns in class 6A.
  7. I know that Vanguard is loaded this season, however before they can even think about Armwood they have to win their district. They have to get by Leesburg, Gainesville, Lake Weir, and Forest. Gainesville will be down this year but are still dangerous. Leesburg has a very good team with a good QB. They played us tough in the spring game. You can never count them out. Depending on what Forest shows up they could be trouble. Even Lake Weir can surprise on any given Friday. And, if they win their district they then have to get by one of the district 6 teams and then possibly Gainesville again. Last season they hammered Gainesville in the regular season but lost a close one to them in the 2nd round. I think that Vanguard will be an even better team in 2016 than in 2015. They are so loaded with exceptional players that the only team that could beat them is themselves.
  8. North Marion lost a bundle of players to graduation including their starting QB, top RB, top WR's, and their most productive defensive players. Plus, NM is in 5A and would not mean anything in the playoff picture. However, IMO, I think that Vanguard will defeat the Colts in the regular season by a pretty wide margin. I still think that Buchholz will be a handful as they return most of their starters, minus their starting QB. However, their backup QB is a Senior and should be able to be productive with the talent that surrounds him. Being 7A they don't figure in Vanguard's playoff picture either. On 9/23 Buchholz will come into Booster Stadium, Ocala to play the Knights. That is one game I'd love to see. Booster Stadium is huge and there may be 6,000 or so there that night. By the way, Buchholz comes down to Trinity Field to play the Celtics August 19th for the KO Classic. Guess we will know how good they are and how good we are that evening
  9. Tucker is a really strong kid and has a keen understanding of his defensive position. Forest will realize his loss this season.http://www.hudl.com/video/3/3191610/5721cda4dfe23b2d68b26630
  10. What an incredible loss by the Colts. This fella Watkins is hard to pin down. He will fit right in with Vanguards multitude of talented players. http://www.hudl.com/video/3/4982743/5727aae5e984d45274f08db1
  11. Actually, going back to 2004 through 2008, Pahokee was in Class 2B (currently 3A). They routinely played and demolished teams like Chaminade, Glades Central, CCC, 6A Palm Beach Central, 6A Royal Palm Beach, 6A Palm Beach Gardens, 6A Jupiter. 5A Atlantic, and a bunch more higher classifications. They also played us, Trinity Catholic, when we were at the top of 3A, beating us 2 out of 3. Granted that some of these higher classification teams were not in the top 10. But, they were still pretty good teams that had a roster 2 and 3 times the size of Pahokee's.
  12. Smartest move he ever made staying at Trinity. Although Vanguard will make some noise in 2016 and has possibilities, Trinity may just be able to put it all together in 3A after a disastrous 2015 season. At Vanguard he would have had to learn an entire new system, which for a lineman is probably the most difficult of all positions. Since he is totally familiar with Trinity's system he will be able to shine in his Senior year. There is also a possibility that he would have gotten limited playing time at Vanguard due to their large roster of talented players.
  13. We play Buchholz in Gainesville. Noah has been on the team for 4 years, I believe. Great fast lineman with a lot of natural strength. I watched him play a lot. Have not heard whether he has any prospects yet. He should have some this season.
  14. Currently Buchholz has a roster of 69. Trinity Catholic a roster of 39. Doesn't really matter as we've played good 7A and 8A teams before and defeated them. Not last year, but prior years.
  15. Do you think Pahokee will ever again be the powerhouse they were a few years ago? Do they still have the athletes and coaching to return to form? I miss those days. We gained a lot of respect for the Blue Devils in the 3 games we had with them.
  16. Boy, how times have changed. I remember back a few seasons when we played Rickards. Actually we played them two years, once at home and once at Rickards. We completely destroyed them both times. I remember looking out on the field and thinking to myself these are the most talented athletes I've seen that can't get out of their own way. These were D-1 prospects that had little to no direction. I also thought that, if they ever do get a direction they will be one hell of a team. It took a while, but look now.
  17. I know where you're coming from and possibly you might have somewhat misinterpreted what I stated about parents pushing their son's to transfer for opportunity only. I believe that if a parent wishes to enroll their son at IMG and are willing to pay the exorbitant tuition, then that is their choice. If their son is an exceptional player and that is what he wants to do with his life, then so be it. Go to the best school for that and hope that it all works out. Also, parents that pull their sons and daughters, for that matter, out of public schools that are not educating them properly and sending them to private schools for academic reasons, I have no problem with. I guess I do have a problem with parents team shopping for their sons. Pulling them out of one school and sending them to another just so they can play for a team that is marginally better. In the long run I don't think that it is going to matter one wit to enhance a player's ability to get into a D-1 college. If that player is a standout on his current team, and has the academic ability, he will be able to get into a D-1 college and still play football. Just my opinion, though.
  18. Steve.........I think Tampa 1 is referring to transfers from Florida. Armwood, without a doubt, does not have one out of state transfer to Armwood. I think that IMG has very few players recruited specifically from Florida. It's not beyond probability that Armwood does get more in state transfers than IMG. I would be willing to bet that many other Florida teams get more incoming players from Florida schools than IMG does.
  19. I'm sorry, Coach. But, you did state that IMG was a factory and that they were stealing players. I was just clarifying that IMG is certainly not the only school that is doing it. When it comes to IMG many folks criticize them for recruiting, or in your way of thinking "stealing", although IMG is a private school and recruiting is the nature of their business. However, I see many folks posting daily about how many "transfers" teams are receiving but never say a word about these schools for doing exactly what IMG is doing. In fact many times it seems as though people are bragging about how many "transfers" that one school or another is getting.
  20. Coach, I have to differ with your take on IMG, in some respects. First off, I don't think there is any more "stealing" going on with IMG than is going on with some of the powerhouse privates like STA, TCA, and CCC. Nor some of the "stealing" that is going on to build public school juggernauts like Manatee, Armwood, Mainland, and a few others. Players are "choosing" to transfer from a public school to a private school, with a considerable monetary loss might I add. I would bet that IMG has gotten far fewer players by "stealing' from other teams than some of those schools I have mentioned. Also, HS aged kids are all the same. They want their football team to win. IMG played us a couple of times and their players were just as enthusiastic about winning as our players were. I don't think that the professional aspect of it all really sinks in until they are Freshman in college regardless of what they are being put through in the IMG HS. I would, however, not want to be a HS football coach only to have my key players desert the team sometime in late summer after I worked my behind off to train them. Coach, this is a parent problem and not necessarily a kid problem. Parents allow this to go on and in fact encourage it in many instances. You certainly don't build character by allowing your son to HS shop when they become dissatisfied with their current situation. My son attended private school from K-3. I didn't, just up and decide, in his Sophomore or Junior year to have him transfer to this private school "for academic" purposes. Considering that most HS football players will never see a college football field, except on TV, and most college football players will either drop out of college or will never be good enough for the NFL. You have more chance buying your football playing son a lottery ticket than having him compete on the college or NFL level.
  21. Last season Buchholz went 10-2 and to the 2nd round of the playoffs with practically no Senior players. Yes, they lost QB Jackson White, 2,800 yds passing, to graduation. However, his replacement, Scott Lester, did play quite a bit in 2015. With all of the experienced Seniors they are going to have in key positions, I don't think they will miss a beat in 2016. Gainesville went 8-5 last season with a Senior QB and a Senior laden team. It doesn't look like they have a viable replacement for their QB and they lost a bunch to graduation. Since they are Gainesville HS, and are a well coached team, I don't think they will have a losing season. But, don't think they will see any playoffs this year. I will let you know how good Buchholz is after I see them in the KO classic in August against my team the Celtics.
  22. In reviewing Vanguard they are going to be loaded this season. With Senior QB Perry at the helm and Vanguard's plethora of talented RB's and WR's, they will be giving their 6A opponents fits. They face 3 teams that usually give them a game, North Marion, Gainesville, and Buchholz. From what I see NM and GNV lost a lot to graduation and I don't think will be able to hang with VG. 7A Buchholz is loaded and that will be the defining game for VG. If they can defeat BH they may just go deep into the playoffs with the confidence to get by teams like Armwood. In the past I have watched VG get lethargic at times in games that they are supposed to win. Don't know what that's all about but it does happen. To get to the championship game you have to go 110% every day of the season. This year the opportunity is there and may not return for some time.
  23. IMHO, there are two teams in Marion County that may be crawling out of hibernation. The 6A Vanguard Knights. 9-3 last season and went to the 2nd round of the playoffs losing a close one to Gainesville. With one of the best D-1 QB's in the state (2307 passing yds), a bunch of Senior RBs, and, as always, 2 or 3 speedy WR's, I believe they can break through, defeat Gainesville, and work hard through the rest of the playoffs. The 3A Trinity Catholic Celtics. 4-8 last season. The first losing season in their history. However, still won their district and went to the 2nd round of the playoffs. This was the result of a new head coach and assistant coaches coming on board, the only two D-1 players transferring to a public school, very few Seniors on the team, and a starting QB who went down with a season ending injury in mid season. In 2016 the team will have adjusted to new coaching, the team will be Senior laden, and the Senior starting QB is now healthy. If the Celtics play like the Celtics of old, watch out.
  24. Buchholtz is going to be a power this season. They were very good in 2015, 10-2 with a very close loss to Columbia, and they are bringing most of their team back with the exception of their QB. They will be a majority Senior laden team. I'm researching them now as Trinity Catholic plays them in August in a KO Classic. A 3A team against a very tough 7A team. And, we have to play them in Gainesville. Oh,well. Should tell us where we stand for the upcoming season.
  25. Forest is in a district with Gainesville and Vanguard. Forest usually plays Vanguard tough but seems to have trouble with Gainesville. Vanguard always has a whole bunch of athletes. both offensively and defensively. This season that have a Senior QB, N'Kosi Perry, one of the best in the state. Gainesville lost big time to Vanguard during the regular season but defeated them by a close score in the 2nd round of the playoffs. According to the knowledgeable sources Vanguard has a chance to go all the way this season. Unfortunately, for Forest, they lost a bunch to graduation. Most of their RB's and WR's. They also lost their QB.
