  1. There you go, Columbia opens it with the pass and a couple of flags. Nice Touchdown reception 10-7.
  2. End of one. 3-0 Gainesville. Two plain Jane offenses, is it the weather/field condition ?
  3. Thanks for the hookup. Casting to my 60" Samsung....nice picture, stay away rain (fingers crossed)
  4. My bad. So those are old numbers ? Thanks Darter.....Hope Larry is well.
  5. Someone say computer poll. Lax Index below. Like all mathematic polls they get better after games are played. Subtract power ratings (on extreme right) from both teams. The difference is the point spread. LAZ CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG. Listed all 559 Florida football playing schools : https://www.lazindex.com/index.php
  6. This is a very interesting early season match-up for this Buccaneer homer. Legendary and three time Florida state champion Rick Darlington is back (from Alabama) and will lead the Bulldogs of Deland High against Mainland High Friday night at Daytona Stadium. Coach Darlington, an offensive play caller extraordinaire and master of the single wing has been a state scoring champion in both Florida and Alabama. But Mainland on the other hand is countering that with a defensive minded specialist, hometown hero, and best linebacker to ever put on the Mainland blue and gold, Head Coach Travis Roland. Conventional wisdom would say young coach Roland and his Bucs might have trouble adjusting and slowing down a rarely seen old school offense from the days of leather helmets, long-sleeved wool cheerleader sweaters, and megaphones. Curiosity got the best of me, and after a look and see Wednesday afternoon I came away feeling very good. This young Mainland team is loaded. Offense will lead the team early on. Receivers may be the best ever. They're big, fast, and have an attitude. The senior QB is a Spruce Creek transfer more than capable of lighting it up (scoring). O-line is young with potential and will be fine. Defensively they have big hard hitting corners. Don't remember bigger ones. Couldn't see much of the d-line or linebackers, they were on the other end of the field. Did see some big kids though. I'll only mention one. That would be 6'6" 250lb Junior LJ McCray. This is what Coach Roland told the locale newspaper earlier in the month : "We told him last year, ‘LJ, you’re either going to turn into a five-star (recruit) or you’re going to transfer. One of the two.’ We would look crazy if we had a kid 6-foot-6, 250 pounds and he’s not out there killing everybody," Roland said. "So he brings super versatility to us. He can go play wideout. He can play slot and h-back. He can play a true tight end position. He can also play defensive end and nose guard." (EDIT) Game recap further down thread *
  7. Bet it looks like a new car lot in there....must be nice, LOL
  8. I hear they got a heck of a multi-level parking garage/dorm. Always trying to get an edge.
  9. They've won Many a Championship. Great on campus facilities.
  10. Speaking of boarding students on campus, my now retired doctor's son from Daytona Beach lived on the Jacksonville Bolles campus in a rehabbed motel converted to a student dorm. This was in the early 2000's. Also Chipper Jones (H.O.F Atlanta Braves) from Pierson, FL left his parent's home to play high school baseball at Bolles. This also was many years ago. One would think if they could do it back then in Jacksonville anybody could (STA) if they had the dorms after dotting the i's and crossing the t's.
  11. I hear you... not a big Evans fan either. In 1975 they knocked my Mainland Bucs out of the state basketball playoffs on the way to the championship behind their monster center Darryl "Chocolate Thunder" Dawkins. I've also witnessed the animosity between the Bulls and Trojan fans at the state Track and Field Championships and at Bob Hayes in Jacksonville. MNW might be famous for football, but in boys and girls track and field they are 2nd to no one. And their fans in the stands will tell you whether you want to hear it or not. I love it.
  12. Never able to see much of the crowd from my desktop computer monitor (23"), but 9,000 hyped up fans (on a rainy night) for a pre-season "KICK OFF CLASSIC" is something to behold ! How's that old saying go - If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it's a ??? If it's two historic Florida black high schools from rival big cities, both with enthusiastic fans and alumni going back decades and generations, it's a classic. It might not be the "original" Soul Bowl, but it sure looked like it, sounded like it ,..,..,..,
  13. I too thought they were out of it early and fought back. They didn't have an answer for the Bulls defense.
  14. The got to much talent to fold. Offense needs some fine tuning...it'll come.
  15. I agree, they (Cocoa) have a way of winning the close ones.
  16. Jones stopped at the 1. MNW 42-24. Two good teams. Both headed to playoffs down the road. Drive home safe Dade. Drinkers out tonight.
  17. TD Jones, nice full field drive. Young men showing heart. 35-24. time ? 4th
  18. TD, QB keeper. Bulls 35-16. 4th quarter, time kelp on field since power outage
  19. TD pass Jones. 28-16 MNW. 3rd quarter. NO time ?
  20. JOSH, don't play. Talking about the lights going out, I said a word that rhymes with " Ham." And was instantly censored and block.
