  1. "Bo, you've morphed into a take no prisoner's gunslinger from a nice controlled volunteer girl's softball coach. That ruff and tumble national off-topic message board has changed your persona to a new 'Cane's like assassin. You've grown up ! Keep the good work coming. Your insight is spot on.....just a fan here.
  2. I think the answer is in your last sentence. It would be very unpopular and the smaller schools (Cocoa, Bolles, Chaminade, and a few others being the exceptions) would cry like hell over the size disparity. Also some play 14-15 games now with playoffs. An "8" team champions playoff would add 3 more games. You can almost hear the bleeding hearts screaming now about danger, injury, and exploitation.
  3. If Kramer is still there Naples should be as good as any suburban team. But calling it a cake walk and no comp in the whole class is bold as hell. Naples hasn't been the only suburban team knocked out by Miami. There's a team in my backyard ( TO NAME ONE ) who's 0-6 or 7 in the last decade or so.
  4. The triple A analogy has some creedence. Nulli did correctly point out though that the suburban teams were made up from 59 counties. Calling all "Dip$hits" is disingenuous at best, and very naive and juvenile at its worst.
  5. I too like the 100 team championships. Problem is, in the age of the participation trophy, with an exploding population, it's never going back to 1984's four championships (A,2A,3A,4A). Five champions ended in 1997, and six champs (ended) in 2002.
  6. Nulli, I think the proper word is "whipped"
  7. Maybe not, but special consideration is in order for a smaller Nationally ranked 1996 Jacksonville Bolles (14-0), who's starting QB broke his ankle on their first series. They lost 14-13 to Bartow (14-1). Also 2003's 2A state champ Hollywood CHaminade (13-1) with victories over 5A state champ Daytona Mainland, and an excellent 27-0 victory over Madison. County. A 3pt loss to 5A semi-finalist Miami Edison (32-29) being their only slip-up. Finally, a Shout out to the 2009 2A Cocoa Tigers (14-0) upset shocker of national ranked Glades Central (13-0). These three small school winners were easily Top 3 in the state in those years. IMO, Chaminade was the best team in the state in 2003.
  8. Look out Brother, you know I married a one time FAMU girl..... you're in dangerous waters, better recognize
  9. No one can please a snake. That's why you guys keep losing your lady friends to Wildcats.
  10. Lakeland has been the suburban gold standard for decades. They take a backseat to no one. To a lesser degree my hometown public, until very recently could play or beat anyone in the state OUTSIDE DADE. Cocoa still kicks big ass for a 1200 student public. Madison County is similar. I'm not downgrading the suburban categories. To be the best you have to beat the best (IMO).
  11. I think that has been pretty obvious for years when not counting the Orlando area metro schools. Jacksonville, Tampa, and S. Florida metro's (-STA) aren't as good as their cities smaller schools.
  12. Like myself you like to argue. Also we both can logically listen to persuasive reasoning and change our minds. I've found this is the exception and not the norm. Follow me over to the national high school football off-topic board for a rude awakening. Facts, lies, and innuendo are equal in the eyes of deniers.....live and learn
  13. This is much like what Little League Baseball did a generation ago. Since its World Series is held here annually, at times no American team made the championship final. From a U.S. fan perspective this wasn't a good thing. So they changed the rules and the format. All American teams were put in one pool and all foreign teams in another, thus guaranteeing a US finalist . The pool winners then played for the World Series Championship in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
  14. We're on the same wavelength with that thought. I sense a compromise.....
  15. I'm not a traditionalist by nature, and agreeing with Nolebull is rare to say the least, it's just the fact of not counting the large population centers of the state when crowning a state champion seems hollow when this majority wasn't defeated on the field of play. #MainlandBucForEver
  16. 'Bo, it's the world we live in, where everyone has a strong opinion on most everything from sports to family, no right or wrong answers. Just some guys pointing differences. It's all good. Peace
  17. IMO, any championship that leaves out the major cities of that state is a dubious title at best. Does Texas reject Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio schools when titles are rewarded ? I don't know. Clue us in Nolebull.
  18. I agree. It's a watered down title, but a championship just the same......with an " * " next to it.
  19. Historically speaking, ColumboFan hit a home run with his Fab 5. All of the above are known to have a steady supply of home grown athletes, better than average long term public school coaching, a tradition of winning that draws local transfers, and a deep and storied history going back decades with alumni now parents and grand parents. Now throw in no Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Duval, Orange, Hillsborough, and the like powerhouses to stumble over, and he has chosen the "most likely" 3-S title contenders. Sure history means nothing now with unrestrained freedom to transfer, but his Top 5 are an excellent starting point without me even yet reading his team Bio's.....247sports be damned.
  20. "BO, why all the hate on little Live Oak ? Sure it's been a lopsided rival to big bad Lake City but yall been knocking heads for decades. Saw my first in 1970 or '71 at Live Oak. Had a lady friend who's family moved there. I caught the bus up there a few times in 10th grade, good people. Lake Butler, Starke, Lake City ( Greyhound stop was an old closed up gas station ) then on to Live Oak. Heading home at night through Jacksonville was a little scary. The bathrooms were upstairs and the old station was in a rough part of town. This 15yr old boy was nervous.
  21. It would appear an apology is in order. This old man spoke in haste, jumped the gun, panicked, false alarm, was premature (I'll address that at a future date:) and dead wrong. One of my distinguished adversaries is already insulting posters left and right. PrepGrindiron is still ticking, and rising the blood pressure of all who partake in the no holds barred Off-Topic forum... Carry on, sorry.
  22. Thanks Columbo Tiger, that's a pretty good assumption. Not interested in the Scam Man's website. Prep's Off Topic Board was depressing. I was good for a few days then it would get to me. Probably healthier for us all if it's gone. I'd like to thank the owner for the opportunity to freely spout off unapologetically. It was a wild ride.
  23. Anyone got the scoop ? They have been offline for days.
  24. I went down there once for a game at Rockledge, maybe '06, '07 ? Seem to me it was late afternoon.
  25. Let's hope you're right with the championship games being more competitive. But as a long time fan of the sport, the separation of metro from suburban counties only reinforces what many have been saying for years about the "watering down" of championships. The Suburban 3A Champion is the best of 60 suburban county teams, nothing more. By not competing against the big boys in Miami, Ft Lauderdale, Orlando, Jacksonville, Tampa, etc. this 3A winner appears to be one of several "Minor League Champs." (IMO) It cheapens the words State Champion.
