The truth is that Vero Beach was probably just a decent 8A school. It seems Treasure Coast and Centennial just seemed better than they were because VB was not as good as it seemed on paper.
Vero's only really good win this year was against Venice. Perhaps Venice started the season slow, or the match up just suited VB. While DP has probably improved going into the playoffs, I have a hard time believing that they are state caliber this year. Too many losses against teams that were not state caliber.
That Vero lost to them, bad officiating or not, is strong evidence that Vero was probably overrated going into the playoffs.
Trust me darter. I’ve been saying for years football on the treasure coast has been lacking

Before Lawnwood Stadium opened in 1970, Fort Pierce teams played at Jaycee Field, which was located east of U.S. 1 near the Fort Pierce police station.
Also next door to Pittsburgh Pirates spring training way back when!

Originally they were called Ft Pierce High until the 50's when they were renamed Dan McCarty High.
In 1970 they closed Lakeshore High and merged McCarty with it to make Fort Pierce Central.
Westwood High would open shortly after in 1978

In 2003, Monsignor Pace beat Bolles 21-17 in the 3A final. Pace only gained 5 yards net rushing on 22 attempts.
In 2010, Tallahassee Lincoln beat Armwood 17-14 in the 4A final. Lincoln only gained 4 yards net rushing on 36 attempts.
That was a crazy game in 2010. Buck Allen’s FG block and scoop, and the roughing the kicker were the two real difference makers

1. Danny Wuerffel UF
2. Steve Spurrier UF

Only 1 team has ever won 3 FHSAA playoff games at the Muck...meaning they won at Pahokee or Clewiston or Glades Central or a combination of wins against those teams at their respective home fields. Which team is it? Take a guess!
Bartow
Chaminade-Madonna
Cocoa
Fort Meade
Frostproof
Haines City
Immokalee
Monsignor Pace
Rockledge
Tampa Catholic
Wouldn’t this also be the same team from quiz #1?

Now that I have to save face let me take a stab. Forest, and Dunnellon? Must have been ages ago. And amend Marion to Orange

This team has had(arguably) the most dominating overall defensive performance of any program in the state series during the past 25 years. During this time, this team has made multiple title game appearances and in playoff games during those title run seasons, they held their opponents to one TD or less in 70% of the games. In 2 of those title game appearances, they held each of their opponents to less than 100 yards of total offense and 7 or fewer first downs. In all of its playoff games over the past 25 years, this team has recorded 7 shutouts.
Who is the team?
Carol City

I had asked for the names of private schools? Do you mean Pensacola Catholic?
Sorry didn’t finish typing. Pensacola over Belen Jesuit?

I typically think emphasis hasn’t changed. There’s been such an advancement in the HS passing game as well as an uptick in plays per game thanks to no huddle offenses that many teams cannot field teams full of two way studs in the numbers they once did.

When one looks at the data below, it begs the question "why?" Have offenses gotten more explosive? Is there not as much emphasis on defense as in the past? Has the increase in classifications resulted in less parity? etc etc Opinions?
Below is the average number of points scored by the state champions in each decade.
1970's 23 points
1980's 26 points
1990's 28 points
2000's 31 points
2010's(so far) 35 points
Prior to 2010, there was only one year in which the average number of points scored by all state champions was 40 or more...42 in 2005. So far this decade, we have experienced 3 such years (41 in 2011, 40 in 2013, and 43 in 2015). Interestingly, the last two seasons, the average has been 28...the lowest back-to-back averages since 2002/2003.
In 2013, the biggest scores were in the upper classes. In the 2014, the biggest scores were in the lower classes. So, it is not as if the big scores this decade are all coming from a certain class(es).
Is there a way to track total plays per game?

Ocala Trinity Catholic? Pahokee's Robert Love threw for 500+ (or close to it) in a regulation loss. Even though Pahokee went on the beat them 2 more times. I thing University School threw for over 300 on them in a loss as well.
That was going to be my guess. Robert love had like 500 yards passing that day, and Cooke from U school had at least 400. I think that game went to 3 OT
