Gregory impressed the hell out of me during the playoff run to the state title last year, his ability to read the emerging holes at the line of scrimmage, compounded by his ability to run with authority between the tackles is what caught my eye. I watched Taylor (I believe that is his name), only against Vero Beach and wasn't overly impressed. Palmetto has more going for it offensively and defensively in as far as predicting a team the could win versus Manatee.....I agree!

Brandon Gregory 2019 RB. I think he is 6ft 200lbs. Not break away speed but is a smooth runner. Good vision and balance.

He did not play vs Vero. Hurt his back during the Plant game the week before in the KOC.

Good and fine but there is no LaRoche type on this Venice team.

They don't have a home run hitter but do have good RB's.

I think you are missing my point. I agree with everything you have said. My point was at Palmetto 2016 Venice was down at half 3-0. They did finish with a win. That game was at Palmetto.

This year is could be a similar style game at Palmetto.

While I do think Venice should win I'm not overly confident as I have been in the past.

I have a better feeling about the Manatee game than Palmetto.

  3. Teams from the Tampa area are strange when they play team from Venice.

2014 Hillsborough playoff team came to Venice with athletes and D1 guys all over and failed to win. It was a strange game and Venice squeaked one out if I remember . 35-29

Armwood then came and finished Venice off that year.

2016 East Lake again players at most positions were supposed to be better. 3-4 star guys vs 0 star guys. Venice handled them 43-14

Went to STA that year and got handled.

2017 St Pete came into Venice with D1 guys again. UF commit. Rb that was very good. Venice with more experience finished that game 49-13

TBT came to Venice with Pennix and WR who were D1 guys and somehow our lonely unathletic defense stopped them. Pennix I saw got to play on Saturday for IU at QB. Final 48-17

The common factor in all of these wins  is.....Home Field for Venice. Remember the STA game was at Home as well.

Venice needs to win both of the remaining 2 games and get some magic if they will make a run.

True. I think Manatee will be extremely tough to beat this year. They kept the Lakeland game within 21 points and the Braden River game within 10 points, and both of those games were on the road too. I think their loss to Riverview was a fluke. Palmetto is also going to be very tough to beat in their own house, especially with their defense this year I can’t see Venice scoring more than maybe 35 points. We’ll see. Do you think Venice will win states again this year?

It wasn't easy to do last year with all of the kids on that roster. I think teams like TBT and BR will have something in the tank this year. Just like in years past teams who come from the south region will be very tough. STA and Dwyer will be looking forward to a Venice team especially if Venice has to travel.

Good thing is Venice wont be shell shocked like in 2016. They will be more prepared for what they will have to do.

In the end I have a hard time seeing Venice win it again. A lot needs to lineup for them to get it done.

And that's just to get to States. Still have to handle a team from the north.

  5. So its been 11 years since a Sarasota County team has beaten Venice. 2007 Booker was the last team to do it.

It has been 6 straight wins vs Palmetto.

Last time Venice beat Manatee 3 times in a row you have to go back to 2007-08-09. Which has kids like Dri Archer Trey and Clay Burton on them.

My point is after all of the success Venice has had it could be easy to stub your toe in these last 2 games. That Palmetto game away would be the one that matters most. Win and you are in a top 4 for playoffs.

Lose and you now play the points game for playoff berth.

That Manatee team is so up and down its hard to tell. They have the players to get wins. It just hasn't been the Manatee of old.

In the end Venice should win both games. But any given Friday night with teenagers and social media that could change. Stay focused to the game plan and win by 1 or 50 still equally a W

That’s true, but this year it was different. People have been telling me Venice vs Vero Beach rematch in 2019, I believe it

No it wasn’t, we have a two year contract with them.

Texas was a fun trip for the kids. Different world out that way.

Camden was ok as well. Big stadium pretty good crowd.

Ok here's what I'm not getting

Is this practice film or game film?

    Both

Everything on the Hudl account was available.

Each week for some opponents they would film practice from 2-3 different angles and self scout. They would prepare with different plays for that specific for that game. Most schools script the first set of plays, say 20 or so. That would mean in the Venice game, BR would know on offense the first 20 plays and how to defend it.

he should be fired and they should forfeit all games.

similar situation but I think Braden River is worse

    http://footballscoop.com/archive-news/coaches-suspended-for-watching-unauthorized-film-on-hudl/

    Interesting article.

I doubt he gets that stiff of a penalty. Probably 2 games and a seminar.

In my view it is like hacking into an email and reading documents that are to be personal. I had doubts this would ever come out to be honest. The knowledge of this has been around for awhile.

  9. Story is BR coach (I think it was Bradley) has a friend that is a college coach. College coaches have different access to Hudl and can see more than what I'm guessing high school coaches can. I'm sure its to see recruits.

That college coach gave access to (Bradley) to his Hudl account. That gave access to see what is on the account for them to look over. Venice puts some of their practice on film to study and share with its players to scheme for upcoming games. While (Bradley) can now see how teams are preparing for his team from the comfort of his office, he can then change things to suit the upcoming gameplan.

This is basically what i attempted to state over on other thread only i was too lazy to look up the exact numbers of recruits on both teams

Even in their down year they had better talent then Venice and considering how deep it goes they should have beaten Venice

    So one of 2 things

Either talent and star rankings are overrated and doesn't guarantee championships at high school level

Or Venice out coached St Thomas Aquinas

    I can buy either theory

    2 things happened

1 STA did not take Venice as serious as they could have. Based off of players they shouldn't have. In such they did what I think was poor job coaching. If you watched the game or saw film STA could have run the short passing game all night and threw screen passes to put Venice defense in a disadvantage all night. They ran those 2 plays in the last drive successfully.

2 Conditioning of athletes and the long ride. STA showed up got off the bus and started into routine. It sucks making that drive. Venice knows that from experience. The conditioning of running no huddle paid off in the late 3rd and all of the 4th QT. Dumervill could barely keeps his uniform on straight much less get back to the line of scrimmage before the next play.

In the end the Venice kids do more with less. They grew up after the loss the year before and proved they were not a flash in the pan.

    Wasn't loaded???

I would say a team that probably averages 10+ d1 athletes a year would be loaded annually

Tell me something? How many d1 players were in Venice starting lineup

Then we should compare how many STA has on their roster from last year

I'll put 20 bucks up right now that STA had more d1 players on their roster than Venice

Sta may not have been as good as normal but they still had plenty of talent

They just didn't have a qb and it cost them

Lets take just one kid from STA last year Nik Bonito. Killed Venice in the State Semi before he got hurt in the game. The next year not as much but still a hell of a player.

He had more D1 offers than we had kids go to college to play.

    Signed with Oklahoma.

    Offered from

Alabama -Louisville- Auburn- FSU -Georgia- Illinois- LSU- Miami -Michigan- Miss State- North Carolina State -Ohio State Oregon- Penn Sate- South Carolina-Syracuse- Tennessee- Texas- UCF- Virginia Tech- West Virginia- Wisconsin

They beat us at home last year

They are not the same team. While Boyce will probably get the ball the most, they have a younger running back that is pretty good too. They most likely will be a heavy run team.

I'm not sure who the new QB is, but Brantley was a dynamic runner form that position. They used Jamar Johnson at WR late in the year. He was a very physical DB and returned punts as well. They are both gone.

  14. I don't know much about their Tampa area district. Locally they play Booker Venice Palmetto to start. Manatee in the middle and end with Sarasota. If they can be 4-1 in those games or better they will add up points and be a high seed. Home games are where its at in the playoffs.

  15. Not too many from our area on here. They have lost a good amount to graduation. Starting QB and best OL who was a big guy at 315lbs. Last year was the first year for the new coach. They will have some growing pains but will retool with athletes.

Looks like they play Armwood in the KOC. That should give us an idea of how they will be early.

Venice was a pretty nice place to watch a game, too. Was there for the Braden River game two seasons ago. Not sure I would want to attend this year's game, though!

The STA game last year was by far the best atmosphere to date.

The Braden River games were no doubt huge crowds. Its much different than when Venice travels to BR. Their field is more spread out. They do not allow the visitors on the home side of the field. No bathrooms no concession. Rather odd to say the least.  As far as the game this year, it will be very interesting. I don't think either team is dirty but I will not be surprised to see a few 15 yard penalties. Neither team wants to lose players for the run in the post season. Winner is in the drivers seat for sure.

  17. Manatee does have a great place to see a game. The stadium with the concrete seats makes it different.

Plant is also interesting. The students really make it a home field for sure. Playoff games there have to be great.

Not rowdy but Stephenville in Texas was nice. Not much going on there so everyone comes out for the game. Field is also  used for the local small college. Had the feel of a great Friday Night scene. Rolled up the town for the local game.

  18. How many people on here have stepped foot onto IMG ? Of those who have, did you tour the rest of the campus?

IMG regards itself as a Academy. Since IMG bought out Nick Bollettieri it always has been about getting the best athletes in every sport to the campus to further their potential. Remember Football is a newer adventure for them. It was tennis that got them started followed by David Ledbetter golf.

If you have an athlete and want the best instruction, weight training, recovery, nutrition etc  you would seek out people who can provide that correct? IMG is a business that is spawned by a need. Its only around because people want it to be.

On other note I believe IMG has purchased another parcel of land to expand.  http://www.heraldtribune.com/news/20180627/img-keeps-growing-with-90-acre-purchase
