It's not that far. They could use the Polk school buses. It should be no more than a little over an hour, maybe an hour and a half in bad traffic. Heck, from West Orange to East River in Orange County (Orlando) is probably about the same.

The bad thing about polk county schools is that you can't get a county bus until after 5:15 due to the middle schools schedule being different from the High schools. It would be an hour and a half drive to Manatee from Lakeland so that would get them there around 6:45-7 and that would mean they would be rushed and could throw off their mojo. Could have something to do with not rescheduling this one. I assume they got a charter bus to avoid that issue.

These two teams know each other really well. But I'm taking Osceola due to the fact that they added a new offense scheme, which looks good and I have yet to see or hear anything about Gibsons new QB.

good reasoning. I just saw his stats were 17-20 for 167 yards and 2 td's against winter haven. Not bad stats against a pretty decent (usually) Winter Haven team. What are Osceola's strengths?

I think Osceola is flying under the radar. I was very impressed with them in the spring game.

Should be interesting to see how they do against a veteran Lake Gibson defensive front that was extremely impressive last year. Who yall got winning this game? i'm going with Gibson just off experience.

  5. who you all think will have a harder time replacing their qb

    Vanguard?

    Mainland?

    Lake Gibson?

    Ponte Vedra?

Vanguard will have a hard time replacing, but the backup they had last year got a good bit of reps and is a tremendous player. He was fun to watch last year.

Mainland will have the biggest adjustment to make. Having watched them play numerous times, he was their playmaker in every offensive situation. When he was struggling, the whole team struggled. When he was "on", the whole team was "on"

Lake Gibson qb last year wasn't all that impressive to me at times. He threw alot of picks and got sacked alot due to just not throwing the ball away. Word is that LG has a transfer coming in June that will be a surprise to most.

Ponte Vedra will def have a hard time replacing. He was "Mr. Football" for goodness sakes. You never can fully replace that. Should be interesting to see what they can do.

  6. From my understanding, he has always lived in Lakeland's zone. But, with Holden Hotchkiss as the starter at LHS the last two years, knew he wouldn't get any playing time. That, and his dad played for LHS and I guess really wanted him to finish out there.

per source, he "transferred to Lakeland" and participated in football workouts without being enrolled in the school and before he moved into the Lakeland school zone. He is currently enrolled there, but according to source could face some problems with the issue of participating in another schools activities while still being enrolled at Lake Gibson. Word is he transferred because he and the coach didn't get along, i've heard he isn't the hardest of workers and wanted things just handed to him, which apparently is what Lakeland is doing for him? This is all just what i heard and i am in no way 100% sure of any of the above statements.

  7. These coaches know each other very well down here.  Call it what you want....love/hate mutual respect...Probably would have been better to check with IMG or Oxbridge.  Both schools have to exchange film from their previous game by rules as well.

If i had to guess, i would imagine they probably did that also.

  8. How about word from the streets is somebody in Lake Gibson camp reached out to Miami Northwestern staff to see would they give Lake Gibson more game film on Carol City... Lmao... This is funnier than when Mainland maid the trip down to Miami to watch Central play mid season

I feel like this isn't that uncommon. If you all know coaches as i assume you do, it is common to reach out to numerous coaches to see about getting film. You DEFINITELY aren't going to get the film if you don't ask, so why NOT ask? haha

  9. Lake Gibson has improved steadily and has had a consistent defense against good teams this 2016 season.   Even with that defense, I think LG will need a minimum 35+ pts to beat Carol City.  Realistically LG will be lucky to get 10+ pts against the Chiefs.  Carol City is clicking on all cylinders right now and are arguably playing like a top 5 team nationally.  They are a top 25 team nationally - hands down.

Best of luck and regardless of the outcome Lake Gibson had an awesome season.

I might add that I have been a jinx picking against Lake Gibson so it is a good thing BrowardHandicapper is picking against them again.   Should I do my stuff again and jinx Carol City versus LG feel free to set me up with LG tickets for life ;) !   I could be the Steve Bartman of Lake Gibson!

hahahaha and all of LG's fans are happy you are picking against them. I don't think there will be one single person upset that you picked CC. Is CC the best team in all of the championships 1a-8a?

  10. Rooting for Lake Gibson, but I have to agree with this. Gibson's defense has been holding them in games in the 1st half, until their offense can get going in the 2nd half. If they do that against CC, they may be in running clock before the offense gets going.

Man people are quick to throw LG under the door mat haha so what yall gonna say if LG goes out and hits them in the mouth and pull this one off? haha

  11. Carol City by 31 over Lake Gibson

ST. Thomas by about the same over Plant

Plant and Lake Gibson are good, perhaps very good, but within the range of normality where Florida High School football teams are concerned. St. Thomas has a national powerhouse roster this year, and Carol City is playing very close to that level at this stage of the season.

I wish both could be more competitive. But from a bookie's (handicapper's) perspective, it would be exceedingly foolhardy to expect them to be.

I can see why you might say that then. We shall see on Saturday. Thanks for your input.

  12. Wow, so Vanguard scored 13 in the first Q then 0 the rest of the game? I'm sure many didn't expect that after seeing the first quarter. Hats off to both teams. A little better game than I expected. Sounds like both defenses showed up.

What do you all expect from the LG vs. Navarre game this coming week now?

I never can get a good feel for the panhandle schools.

    Predictions?

  13. I wasn't able to see Vanguard play this year, but i have heard they play many guys both ways. Could have a large part to do with it because as I saw Lake Gibson play, they didn't have any guys going both ways and rotating guys every play almost so they seem to stay fresh. Could play a huge role in their success thus far. Good luck to Vanguard and LG both. Enjoy the game James Ricks! Keep us up to date on how it is going.
