I’m asking how is their fan base ..is it rabbit is it faithful etc

Awesome fan-base, we travel well also. We carry numbers you would expect with a 7A team. Sellout our home games, but why not when you win them all. Viera is a rather new community and newer high school so can't hang hat on tradition. Lost two great home games  to hurricanes this year and other home games have been blow-outs but will pack the stands for playoff games and will make it tough on visiting teams.

No doubt, and much respect not only for Vero team, but great atmosphere down at Vero Beach Stadium. I was fan of Merritt Island championship teams of '78 and '79 and we had great community involvement so I have lived it. Vero Beach atmosphere rivals the best in state!!!

    Whose better Venice or Viera

Hard to say, might be worthy of title game in 7A. Viera has explosive offense, Venice known for defense. Viera fan and love good defense so I'm loving on Viera defense also.Think Viera has great play on both sides of ball and if they bring A game they will win state. For a fan that has watched STA for the last 5 years dominate the class, I am very excited to see what play-offs bring us.

Dam if Vero could rematch Viera it would be a different game but it also looks good that Vero beat em

True but Mays was treating that game like a preseason game. We had 7 turnovers for a reason. He was pushing both QBs to air it out to see what needed to be improved on. Fumbles were no excuse, but 4 interceptions were purely both QBs pushing limits on what they could do. Second string QB threw interception on 35 yd line that led to TD. Viera with 7 turnovers was moving ball for winning score in fourth qt. when Vero stopped them cold and led to two score win for Vero. Viera QB is playing to his potential now and as long as he does that Viera will be very hard to beat.

.One ref through 18 flags against Cocoa and call the TD back for holding that was an Iffy call then we fumbled on the one-yard line the ref said that he wasn't down but clearly his knee was down before the ball came out and called a safety.

Rockledge did come to play and it was a good game type defenses both sides.

Rockledge came to play. It was a great rivalry game

I told you Cocoa guys they would give you a game. So much talent with Corbin, Mitchell. Tennison, and Greene. Coaching was the only clear advantage Cocoa had and when rivalry is in play effort and talent can over-come coaching deficiencies.

Viera has a realistic shot at extracting revenge for the beating St. Thomas gave them in the state game a few years back. It is not a lock, but I would say this is your year to have a real go at it.

Don't really call it a revenge game. Viera was blown out by a hugely more talented team two years ago. No way this Viera team would stand a chance against that STA team. However, we have played a lot of higher competition last two years to raise our game. STA is obviously weaker on offense and we have a stout defense to challenge them. Game could come down to our QB playing at a level he is capable of for the win. Coaching staff will be ready for the challenge!

They weren't disgraced, though. St. Thomas is still the favorite. But some of the other 7A teams must be thinking they have a real shot. Based on how St. Thomas has played this season, they do.

I know Viera is going into playoffs with a lot of momentum on both sides of ball. Coaches confident they can play with anyone in state, save IMG.

Statement win by Miramar going into the playoffs. I agree with your assessment of St. Thomas. They are vulnerable this year. It will not be easy, but it is not an exercise in futility and a Viera or Venice or Lakeland or even a team from the North end such as Lee or Columbia may be able to upset them.

Viera with dominating 35-6 win over Heritage. Played 2nd string whole second half running clock. Very explosive offense  with healthy defense ready for playoffs!

As for Cocoa, rankings don't matter as long as you win the last game of the season. Win that one and I'm sure they would trade a number in a poll for a ring.

Can't see Cocoa losing to anyone in 4A. Bolles moving up to 5A and BTW missing play-offs were the only teams that could give them a game. How they dominate the competition will determine their legacy. I'm sure Wilkinson will have the team playing up to its potential.

You win or lose...in order to beat a team for the first time in your history, you must capitalize when the chance comes

Not taking anything away from Cocoa. This is one of their best teams. Curious if you guys think is it their best?

  11. Also think Maxpreps is a little Cali bias, 7 teams in top 25.   Santa Margarita has 3 losses and rated #15 in country. Need to put a rule in - 3 losses drops a team to minimum to a high of #50. I don't care if you lose to #1, #2, #3 you shouldn't be in top 50. I am not a Cali hater, but come on. I do think Mater Dei is top 2 in country. And SJB is top 10, but the rest are hanging on their coat-tails.

  12. Wow, just looked Gonzaga dropped 61 spots for losing to a very good Good Counsel team. Rated #269 now with a 7-2 record. Guess this happens in D.C. every year, they all beat up on each other and brings schools like Viera down with them.

Gonzaga plays St Johns (rated #66 by maxpreps) this week. If Gonzaga wins it should make them #1 in Maryland so our SOS should rise again, IF they win.

Keep thinking of what if... in the Cocoa game. Two missed field goals, dropped balls, prayer answered on botched hold in 2OT for Cocoa. Also hurricanes costing us games against MI and Osceola.  A special season could of been even more so.

  13. Viera was getting lots of love when Gonzaga beat Dematha last month. Then both Gonzaga and DeMartha started to lose and POOF , love is gone. Beat South Fork 64-7 and even dropped in Maxpreps 12 or so spots. Amazing how perception changes and we both know how well we compare to Cocoa. Easily could have won that game and with a win at Gonzaga we would probably be looking at top 10 right now.

  14. FSU commit  so yes Corbin is pretty special. Coached him years ago and thought he was special back then , too.  I think Rockledge could have won those games, didn't say they would have dominated them like you did. Plus, again coaching is way better at Cocoa. Most that have watched Rockledge the last two years would admit it. Beginning of this year they were letting offense run through Latham (QB). He was the weak link with Corbin,Mitchell, Tennison and Greene play-makers why was offense depending on Latham for success. Too bad they had't figured this out during summer practice but then again that goes back to coaching.

Agree that one-dimensional running teams are easier to stop, but with the ball in the hands of Corbin evey play, should make it more difficult to keep some big plays from happening.

    Only won it once, 1981

Vero Beach was a powerhouse in the late 70's. Might of only won one state title but they were in top class and could challenge anyone in the southeastern US.  Merritt Island would battle them every year for control of the region. Toughest rivalry for MI during their heyday.

Not to be confused with Viera who is a new program, 11-12 years old now. Coach Kevin Mays from Palm Bay staff that won state turned around program quickly. Went undefeated in his 2nd year and has been building on it ever since. Four straight district titles and made it to state 2 years ago.

Vero Beach wins big again 51-0 . With a running clock and second string the entire 2nd half. Dr. Krop had won four games in the Miami area and I thought they would give us a decent game. I'm really starting to believe in this Vero team. One more season game this Friday against our county rival Sebastian Rive.

Don't expect much of a game Friday. Sebastian River is a shell of last year. Just a bad team. Losing bad to Palm Bay, Eau Gallie, and getting killed by Heritage equals a running clock second half. Lost Jarez Parks on defense but must of lost a lot on offense also from last years team.
