  1. I missed one! There is one more. He played in Broward County this decade. He was a 4-star athlete and was recruited by Oregon..
  2. Sean White played for University School(Class of 2014) after transferring from Chaminade-Madonna. He passed for 2,679 yards and 30 touchdowns as a senior. He was the MVP of the 2014 Under Armour All-American Game. He was ranked #41 in ESPN's Top 150 and was named Elite 11 MVP in 2013. White was a starter for Auburn University and had a reasonable level of success, but was ultimately dismissed from the field after experiencing some off-the-field problems. Good job Bocefous!
  3. Eugene "Geno" Smith played for Miramar High (Class of 2009) in Broward County. During Smith's senior season, he led his team to the state 6A semi-finals and completed 205 of 338 passes for 3,089 yards and 30 touchdowns while also rushing for over 300 yards. He was an All-State First Team in Florida Class 6A and a Parade All-American. He finished No. 2 in the voting for Mr. Florida. He was ranked #97 on the ESPN Top 150 prospects list. After a stellar career at West Virginia University, he signed with the New York Jets. He recently signed a contract with the LA Chargers. Good job Bocefous!
  4. Teddy Bridgewater of Miami Northwestern is one of them! He was ranked as the No. 2. dual-threat quarterback in the 2011 class and was selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Was ranked 141st on ESPNU Class of 150. Threw for 2,606 yards and 22 touchdowns as a senior. Threw for 436 yards and scored four touchdowns in 42-27 loss to Miami Central in the 6-A semifinals. Set the Dade County record for most touchdown passes in a game with seven. Passed for 2,546 yards and 32 touchdowns and rushed for 379 yards and five more scores during his junior campaign. Led team to 6A state title game as sophomore. Had a stellar career at Louisville and after several seasons in the NFL with the Vikings, he recently signed a contract with the Jets. Good job ColumbiaFan!
  5. Since 2006, 3 south Florida hs quarterbacks have made ESPN's Top 150. All played hs ball this decade. All were rated as 4-star athletes and were ranked amongst the top 10 hs qb's in the country their senior seasons. One played for a MIami-Dade school and the other two played for Broward schools? Each had varying degrees of success in college. Who are they and for what high school did each one play?
  6. It is Feleipe Franks, who played for Wakulla High School. In 2015, as a senior, he led his team to a 13-2 record and reached the Class 5A State Championship Game. He threw for 2766 yards with 35 touchdowns; also had 28 carries for 245 yards and four touchdowns, and was the kicker for all kickoffs and field goals. He participated in the 2016 US Army All-American Bowl and was a 2015 Elite 11 Finalist. He is currently a qb for the Florida Gators. He started 8 games last year, throwing for 1,438 yards with 9 touchdowns and 8 interceptions on the season.
  7. Who was the last qb to play hs football in the Panhandle to make the ESPN 300?
  8. ...breakdown of 2017 ESPN 300 by position. 9. ...nice video about coaching. He has been coaching at this Dallas-area school for about 15 seasons. Made $113.5k/year as of 2 years ago. Has had winning seasons from 2009 to present, but has never made it to a final 4 in their class. Powerhouse Allen has knocked them out of playoffs 3 of past 4 seasons. Nice to see some schools value more than just state titles.
  10. We talk about Florida speed. This might surprise you. Of the top 20 NCAA 100m sprinters in the country, look where they were born and raised. This is not to say those states have faster football teams...just to show that speed does exist in those states. Texas-6 Georgia-3 Florida-2 A number of other states have one representative.
  11. very true, Columbia, and rightfully so. But Florida does not have a corner on the market when it comes to speed. Texas is loaded with speed. 4 of the top 5 hs 100m guys in the country this year are from Texas. A kid just broke the national record about one month ago, running a 10.04. And every year this decade, Texas has had as many or more in the top 5 than Florida. Texas A&M is renowned for its track athletes. And Texas has a huge advantage when it comes to coaching All I am saying is that FL cannot rest on its laurels or in years to come, the tables could turn..
  12. No doubt, some FL teams have phenomenal overall speed. Back in the 1980's, the nation was awestruck by the speed of the University of Miami. But over time, the rest of the country adjusted. Teams changed their games and recruited differently. The Canes still have some phenomenal speed, but they cannot dominate like they used to. If FL hs does not improve in certain facets of the game, we may find ourselves in the same position. Speed is deadly, but it only takes you so far.
  13. Check this out. I was in Massillon Ohio a few years ago and there are tiger paws all over the town. The way the community gets behind the team is amazing.
  14. Love the FL spirit Columbia and no doubt our elite can play with anyone. I watched some West Coast games online this past season and some of the California teams were scary. Many FL teams are probably not used to seeing qb/wr tandems like what I saw.
  15. Back in 08, Oscar Smith went undefeated and got some national attention. I am not sure why, other than their record. It doesn't appear they had played any big name teams in the years prior. And since, they have struggled against OOS competition. So, they may have never deserved to be ranked so highly...shortcomings of these national polls. I do think they are a solid program and Vero should be proud to have gone up there and beat them.
  16. Below is a breakdown of players from this past season's ESPN 300, showing where concentrations of players came from. If one looks at the data from a "per capita" standpoint, south FL and metro Atlanta are neck-and-neck in terms of the highest talent production. Los Angeles metro area - 26 players Miami-Ft Lauderdale-WPB metro area - 24 players Atlanta metro area - 23 players Houston metro area - 16 players Dallas-Ft Worth metro area - 13 players IMG Academy - 11 players (added just for fun) Below is a breakdown of ESPN 300 players by position, comparing S FL, Atlanta and Los Angeles metro areas. Based on this data, some might debate that south FL is not far and away ahead of the rest of the country in overall talent. Relative to others, south FL lags at certain positions. I did this exercise to satisfy my own curiosity, not necessarily to prove any point. Thought I might share for those who are interested. SFL=Miami-Broward-WPB metro area, ATL=Atlanta metro area, LA=Los Angeles metro area ATH - SFL 1, ATL 1, LA 3 RB - SFL 3, ATL 0, LA 0 WR - SFL 4, ATL 3, LA 7 QB - SFL 0, ATL 3, LA 5 OL - SFL 1, ATL 3, LA 3 LB - SFL 3, ATL 1, LA 3 S - SFL 3, ATL 3, LA 2 CB - SFL 7, ATL 4, LA 3 DT - SFL 1, ATL 1, LA 0 DE - SFL 1, ATL 4, LA 0
  17. The population of Virginia is crammed into relatively small geographical areas in the north and east. The bulk of the state is very rural. Go outside those pockets of population, and the quality of football is pretty dismal. In that sense, as a whole, FL is on a completely different level. Each year there are a handful of teams in Virginia that might be good enough to compete with teams amongst Florida's top 50. That said, there is a lot of talent in the Virginia Beach metro area. If you could put together an all-star team from that area, it would be quite impressive.
  18. ..just to show Venice had a reasonable level of talent that year, Flo. If one assumes Venice was a #25-#50 team in FL that year, that is the only example we have of OS beating a FL team ranked in that range, at least in recent history. So, one might say OS beat a "good"(not great) Fl team that year. If OS was in FL, they would be in 7A. I would see them putting up winning seasons year-to-year, but also struggling to make it deep in the playoffs versus teams like Plant, Lakeland, Venice, STA, etc
  19. ...out of curiosity, looked up the following... Oscar Smith is 1-6 vs OOS over the past 10 years, and most of those games were not particularly close. The metro area where Oscar Smith resides(VA Beach-Norfolk-Newport News) has more people than Jacksonville. Not too far north is DC, and we know the quality of teams and talent that comes out of there. So, there is a lot of talent in that area. 2009 - Venice (FL) 27-13 Win (Venice beat 5A finalist Manatee during the regular season) 2010 -Pickerington Central (OH) 36-20 Loss 2011- Gilman (MD) 51-27 Loss 2012-Byrnes (SC) 42-21 Loss 2014-Booker T (FL) 57-21 Loss 2016-Dematha (MD) 42-7 Loss 2017-Vero Beach (FL) 28-21 Loss
  20. Below is a breakdown of 3-season, composite records of Miami-Dade county teams. Should help to give some perspective on depth of team talent in the county. 21. The message is simple. There may be factors beyond X's and O's that impact performance. And If I am going to be critical of someone or something, I owe it to them to do my best to understand their circumstances. If you think Hardee or any other program is struggling, how about some constructive feedback? I tease Flotech about Vero, but I have also shared some specific feedback based on facts. I think people appreciate being offered solutions, not just problems. You imply others need to try harder or figure things out rather than shaming success of certain successful programs, ie American Heritage,. How about some constructive feedback, BH? You've been asked repeatedly what enabled these programs to find such great success so quickly. I would like facts, not just opinions. The facts I shared above concerning performance of Broward teams paints a picture that begs explanation.
  22. just admit this was you on one of your weekend jaunts to Gainesville, Columbia..it's OK..really
