Dan wanted to beat your ass.  Peezy is too nice.   I’m too old to care about beating your ass.  Columbiafan no need to shut it down.

Dan in Daytona? The same man who bought me a meal at Red Robin, and always says hello to me whenever he sees me in person? Peezy, and I worked out our differences, and have an understanding. If you were younger, you would like to beat my ass? Is that what you are saying?

Birdbrain?  No wonder no one likes you on these boards and most end up wanting to beat your ass.  You called someone out for taking a side without facts and did the same thing with out any facts.  That makes you a hypocrite.  After watching the video if you feel the coach should have been ejected i can respect that opinion.  Stop being an ass and people might respect you

Well, I have never been physically threatened on a message board. Maybe that is going to change now, do you want to beat my ass? Being around high school football for many years, I had a pretty good idea about what happened, and when I saw the video my initial thoughts were proven correct. The FHSAA does not take suspending coaches lightly, this coach must have really said something to earn this punishment.

Do they use lube, spit, or just go in on you?

Ejecting a coach for calling a timeout and going out to speak to them. It’s an obvious abuse of power. A coach trying to protect his players should be ejected is what I expect a typical ref to say. You must feel like God when you walk out on the field and feel so good when you can talk to coaches like they are scum beneath you.

Jags904, it is against the rules for a head coach to walk out on the field of play like that. Why can't you understand that? That' can be an unsportsmanlike foul. Also, we don't know if the coach was warned about his behavior prior to this incident. We don't know of the coach already had one unsportsmanlike foul prior to this. I have NEVER felt like God, and you don't really know if I am an official, but no coach is scum beneath any official. The FHSAA is very clear about how officials, are to be approached and treated. Coaches should know this very well.

so you haven't seen the video but don't believe the coach however you call out people for not believing the ref.  hypocrite

Hypocrite huh? I will tell you what Birdbrain,, I have now seen the video, and I stand by what I said. The head coach NEVER is allowed to walk on the field like that, and say anything to the officials. The proper procedure is for the head coach to call timeout, and then have the referee walk to the sideline with another official. Obviously, the head coach did not give the officials that opportunity. Therefore he was ejected and then suspended by the FHSAA. I applaud the FHSAA' s decision, and I think that is unbelievable that this coach still doesn't realize that he was wrong.

If we were to believe coach that he called timeout to talk to head referee, if he walked fast and talked loud (even if he was yelling about a missed call), is the referees first response to flag and eject.

Gatorman-UF, I do NOT believe the coach. I am inclined to believe that the officials did the right thing, but I have no proof at all.  Two unsportsmanlike fouls on a player or coach is an automatic ejection. If what was described in the report actually happened, then the coach very quickly committed two unsportsmanlike fouls. I know the FHSAA very well, that Association does not render a penalty this severe unless something very egregious happened with the head coach. How do we expect high school kids to act in a sportsmanlike, and respectful manner when adult coaches cannot act in this way, and show some respect for authority?

That’s a BS suspension. I have seen and heard refs doing absolutely awful things and when reported the FHSAA tucked their tail and did nothing. Pathetic abuse of power.

What is BS about it Jags904? Did you attend the game? Do you see what happened? Did you hear what happened? Where is the pathetic abuse of power? What absolutely awful things have you heard or seen officials doing?  What do you report to the FHSAA?

But, unlike athletics, schools face the very real possibility of continued mass exodus of students through voucher programs etc, which DIRECTLY impacts the $ they receive from the state and, ultimately, their ability to function and remain open.

In case it's not clear, I HATE the philosophy employed by Florida's education department and the philosophy for which Besty DeVos is the (very ugly) face. I'm also in favor of things being "reasonably competitive" in both academics and athletics. But, I can't stand this rank hypocrisy I see with folks who are happy to see public schools bankrupted through a voucher system or free transfers from "D" or "F" rated schools, resulting in the best students never showing up or leaving, resulting in a stacked deck of students with academic strengths.

The EXACT same set of circumstances that allow a Lakeland to continuously end up with a stacked football roster exist to allow the "elite" academic schools to play with a stacked deck of the best and most motivated students that are certain to produce high test scores. Either you oppose both, support both, or are utterly blind and/or hypocritical.

Skyway, by your own reasoning, that makes you utterly blind and/or hypocritical, since you apparently support athletic transfers, but oppose school choice.

Lakes was the better team, but not 48-0 better. Lakes Left DE lined up offsides all game. Every big play (wasn’t many) for PK got called back. Holding is in the eye of the official, so... Like i said Lakes was better. This is the 3rd consecutive year we’ve played Lakes (won both).

PKs issues are internal and hopefully, the staff will take this extra time to self-scout

    Thank you 561_Fan.

If you watch the last clip, at 0:50, you get a much better view. The other WR is not in position to do anything. And, we can easily see when and where the official threw the flag. It was obviously on #10. And, it was obviously b.s. Although not nearly as b.s. as the roughing the punter call towards the end of the 1st half, or a couple of the roughing the passer calls.

    All right, thank you skyway.

As a long time football fan and season ticket holder to several pro and college football teams during my life, I have always believed that officials should establish early what will and will not be tolerated and then let the players play provided they don't get out of hand. A block in the back can be as little as a slight push or as bad as wiping a player out from behind; I don't believe a slight push should be called. It's like pass interference; too often officials determine who wins a game by not allowing any contact by CB's. It's football, not soccer.

HornetFan, I didn't mean to be rude, but a foul is ALWAYS at the discretion of the officials, that is what the officials role is in a football game. Also, Pro, and College Football Officiating  cannot be compared to High School Football Officiating. The objectives are often different when comparing players who play for a living or on scholarship with teenage children many of whom will never play beyond this level.

  11. HornetFan, what authority

Whether the call is made or not is always at the discretion of the officials; sometimes that decision smells of home town cooking. I have seen too many great plays called back for penalties that occur away from the ball; most of the time they are holding calls or blocks in the back. I agree player safety fouls should always be called.

HornetFan, what authority do you have to declare that whether a call is made is not at the discretion of the officials? What do you think that the officials role is during a High School Football game? A block in the back is a Player Safety foul, no matter where it occurs. Of course, a block in the back is a block with clear initial hands or arms below the shoulders, and above the waist of an opponent. Many times what coaches and fans believe is a block in the back, is not in fact so unless this is clear to the official. Also, a block in the back could be considered a Personal Foul is the action is well away for the play on the field.

Im a first year official doing jv and freshman games. This is not true. They tell us during our trainings not to call things that are on opposite side of the field, unless its unsportsmanlike, a saftey issue, or the played has been warned multiple times.

Yes, aknenn, that is absolutely correct. I wish you all the best in your officiating career.

  13. 10 hours ago, HornetFan said:

A penalty is a penalty, even when it has no effect on the actual play. How often do we see penalties called on the opposite side of the field, away from the play? It's a teaching moment for the coach to avoid having it happen again, but kids are kids and it will happen again.

HornetFan, that is not entirely accurate. Player Safety fouls are always penalties wherever that occur on the field of play, end zone, or sideline. However, many judgment call type of fouls such as holding, OPI, or DPI, are not usually called unless these fouls have a direct effect on the play. Most Head Coaches agree with this reasoning, and it behooves most Officials to try to limit fouls to the absolute necessary with the obvious exception of player safety fouls.
