DISTRICT OUTLOOK
Who’s In:
1. American Heritage – The Stallions will be looking to pick up where they left off after being trounced by eventually Class 3A state champion, University School in the second round of the playoffs last year. There is a tough schedule once again set in place including a visit from Class 4A Cocoa. And the biggest shoes to fill? Greg Bryant’s as he has graduated and moved on to his college career at Notre Dame.
Fighting It Out:
2. Cardinal Newman – Wide receiver Travis Rudolph will be leading the way once again for the Crusaders who will be looking to again make the playoffs once again this year. However, with King’s Academy and Pahokee in the shadows, making the playoffs will not come easy. Depth is an issue, but talent is there for sure. There are some interesting games on the schedule, including one early in the season against upstart IMG Academy out of Bradenton.
3. Pahokee – The Blue Devils are on the rise again after being one of the powerful small school powerhouse teams not only in Florida, but in the nation during the 2000’s. There is some Division I talent that been working hard to get their name out further and will be the ones called upon to lead the team this year. If anything expect improvement out of the “Muck” to continue once again.
4. King’s Academy – A nice amount of the team and talent returns this year, but as always is faced with the tough challenges of a tough district. However, there will be a new quarterback that will be introduced to the system this year and will likely require the offense to run the ball more to keep the Lions in games it needs to stay in.
