In a shocking surprise to many, North Florida Christian head coach Robert Craft is leaving his alma mater after six seasons as the head coach to take the same position at North Forsyth High School in northern Georgia.

The news first broke this morning by Asher Wildman at WCTV-TV in Tallahassee and also later confirmed by Alison Posey at WTXL-TV in Tallahassee.

This may be the shocking news of the day. @NFC_Football coach Robert Craft is leaving to be the head coach at North Forsyth in Georgia.

Never expected this to happen… Coach Robert Craft of @NFC_Football has left his alma mater to take a job in North Georgia.

The Forsyth County News in Cumming, Ga. also reported that Craft accept the head coaching job at North Forsyth this morning, replacing the prior head coach of three seasons.

Georgia is no stranger to Craft though, having coached under the legendary Rush Propst at Colquitt County in the late 2000’s.

Craft leaves North Florida Christian with a record of 49-21,  also includes the schools first perfect record of 13-0 in 2011 that was capped off with a 69-0 win over Admiral Farragut for the Class 2A State Championship that season.

North Florida Christian recently finished the 2015 season with a record of 7-5, reaching the regional finals before falling to eventual Class 2A state champion, University Christian.

There is no word at this time why Craft decided to leave North Florida Christian. However, Alison Posey did tell us that North Florida Christian Athletic Director Mike Posey is no rush to bring in a new head coach and is looking at all the options on the table.

Just spoke with NFC AD Mike Posey, who said he's already started looking for a new head coach. All assistants will stay at NFC.

He said he's not in a rush to bring someone in, and is exploring all possibilities of either promoting within or hiring from outside.

— Alison Posey (@AlisonPosey14) January 22, 2016

He said he was a little surprised when Craft told him he was leaving, but not shocked because he's a talented young coach.

UPDATE: Alison Posey at WTXL talked to Robert Craft more about him leaving North Florida Christian. He told Posey that he broke the news this morning to the team and wasn’t looking for the opportunity and that it came to him, while saying it would take a special place for him to leave North Florida Christian.

Just got off the phone with now former @NFC_Football coach Robert Craft. He said it would take a special place to consider leaving NFC.

— Alison Posey (@AlisonPosey14) January 22, 2016

He broke the news to his team this morning, said there was mixed emotions. Says no doubt NFC will be fine. Had success before he was coach.

— Alison Posey (@AlisonPosey14) January 22, 2016

Craft says he wasn't seeking opportunity, it came to him. Says excited about new challenges, something as competitor he looks forward to.
