With a week of up and down surprises and not so much surprises, the Class 1A Flag Football Top 10 rankings saw some shifts in the rankings. However, the Robinson Lady Knights keep a hold of the top spot after going 2-1 at the Capital City Classic over the weekend.
1. Robinson (7-1)
Last Week: No. 1
Why: Although the Lady Knights lost their first game of the season, it was close and competitive one against No. 3 Lincoln Lady Trojans (13-6) at the Capital City Classic. However, the Lady Knights did beat Leto (45-6), Hillsborough (53-0), FAMU (55-0) and previously ranked Godby (22-6). They face 2A No. 3 Plant and Chamberlain this coming week.
2. Fort Pierce Westwood (5-0)
Last Week: No. 2
Why: The Lady Panthers defeated Pahokee 26-0 in district play and continues to keep winning games and shutting out teams in the process. A game against South Fork was canceled and is unlikely to be made up. However, they will face Lake Placid and No. Glades Central this week, the later likely deciding the top spot in the district.
3. Lincoln (5-2)
Last Week: HM
Why: Might call us crazy for making such a high jump on the Lady Trojans, but the played extremely well at the Capital City Classic despite running into a buzz saw of 2A No. 4 Alonso and their defense. Lincoln acquired wins over No. 1 Robinson (13-6) and previously ranked 2A Apopka (25-6), while also claiming a win over Rickards earlier in the week with a 33-0 win.
4. Seabreeze (5-0)
Last Week: No. 4
Why: Defeated 2A Spruce Creek in a 12-6 decision in their only game this week, but will face a certain test from 1A No. 9 Mainland as well as making a trip to Deltona later in the week. Both games are district contest and wins over both teams this week will give the Lady Sandcrabs top seed in the district tournament later in the month.
5. Monsignor Pace (5-0)
Last Week: No. 6
Why: Despite Miami Carol City canceling a game on Monsignor Pace last week, there is no reason to believe that the Lady Spartans will drop off here once they get back on the field this week as they take on Hialeah Educational and Keys Gate Charter.
6. Orange Park (5-1)
Last Week: No. 5
Why: The Lady Raiders were handed their first lost against some competition outside the Jacksonville-area at the Capital City Classic, but were able to go 2-1 over the weekend and 3-1 on the week overall. The Lady Raiders only loss came to previously ranked 1A Godby (24-0), but notched wins over Leon (40-7) and previously ranked 2A Apopka (19-6). That also included an important 48-0 shutout win over district opponent Baldwin from earlier in the week.
7. Harmony (4-0)
Last Week: No. 7
Why: The Lady Longhorns remain undefeated after notching two shutout district wins over East River (19-0) and Edgewater (30-0) to hold the top spot in District 1A-10. Will play Poinciana and Jones in district contest this week that could lock in the top seed for the district tournament while hosting 2A HM Deerfield later on in the week.
8. Glades Central (6-0)
Last Week: No. 8
Why: The Lady Raiders have been on a roll this season, posting another shutout, this time on Wellington, while handing second-year team Lake Placid a 40-12 loss in district action. However, the biggest challenge this week will come when the Lady Raiders host Okeechobee early in the week while later in the week travel to No. 2 Fort Pierce Westwood.
9. Mainland (6-0)
Last Week: No. 10
Why: Giving up so few points a game, the Lady Buccaneers are a team that is likely to keep rising. However, they do have to face No. 4 Seabreeze this week that is likely going to decided the top seed in the District 1A-9 tournament while taking on Flagler Palm Coast for the second time and Port Orange Atlantic later on in the week.
10. Coconut Creek (5-0)
Last Week: HM
Why: The Lady Cougars crack the Top 10 for the first time this season and have proven so far they can play as they keep playing tough defense on teams giving up just under 6 points per game on average with two shutouts coming the process including one against Pompano Beach (49-0) last week.
Dropped Out: No. 3 St. Petersburg Northeast, 3-1; No. 9 Godby, 4-2
