GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Eight weeks are in the books for the 2019 Florida high school football season and the FHSAA has given us another round of updated RPI rankings meaning we are another week closer to the playoffs.

As such this update provides the entire state a glimpse of what the potential playoff matchups could be looking like in early November, but remember things change, even with four weeks to go.

In Classes 5A-8A, district record was taken into consideration except on certain exceptions which are noted.

For Class 8A, you will find a breakdown of RPI rankings for each team in every region and a projected seeding (including tiebreakers) based upon the guidelines as published by the FHSAA (click here to view), as well as quick thoughts about each region.

NOTE: Teams in RED have clinched their district championship

QUICK THOUGHTS: Oakleaf falls out of the Top 8 for the region after suffering a setback against Mandarin that has been unpredictable to figure out this season. DeLand is now a projected No. 7 seed with Oakleaf out with West Orange falling to the No. 8 seed. Seminole and Bartram Trail switch places among the Top 4 seeds after Seminole got a huge win over a previously undefeated Flagler Palm Coast team.

No. 5 Newsome at No. 4 Osceola (Kissimmee)

QUICK THOUGHTS: Not much change in Region 2 with the Top 8 this week except that Lake Nona now replaces Ridge Community as the No. 8 seed. The next two weeks could tell us more if what we are seeing here is what we will see for the potential final regional playoff bracket.

QUICK THOUGHTS: With Vero Beach beating Treasure Coast in overtime, the RPI rankings for Region 3 didn’t receive as big of a shakeup as if the result had gone the other way. Instead, the only change is Forest Hill dropping out of a projected playoff seed with Palm Beach Central moving in as the projected No. 7 seed this week.

School W/L RPI WP OWP OOWP
South Dade 7-0 0.652 1.000 0.370 0.577

Piper 0-7 0.337 0.000 0.602 0.420

PROJECTED SEEDS

District Champions

No. 1 South Dade (8A-16)
No. 2 Douglas (8A-13)
No. 3 Columbus (8A-15)
No. 4 Western (8A-14)

Wildcards

No. 5 Miami Palmetto
No. 6 Miami High
No. 7 Flanagan
No. 8 Cypress Bay

PROJECTED REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL PAIRINGS

No. 8 Cypress Bay at No. 1 South Dade
No. 5 Miami Palmetto at No. 4 Western
No. 6 Miami High at No. 3 Columbus

Cypress Bay replaces Coral Gables as the projected No. 8 seed.
