ALL-STATE FOOTBALL: 2024 Class Rural All-State Football Award Winners

It is time to honor the best of the best among our All-State Honorees with our All-State Awards Selections. With the selections we have five award winners with Overall Player of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Specialist of the Year, and Coach of the Year.

While it is hard to just pick just one selection. All the athletes and coaches considered for each of the selections are very deserving of the honors.

Without further ado, here are winners for the 2024 FloridaHSFootball.com All-State Team Awards for Class Rural and congratulations to all our award winners!

CLASS RURAL OVERALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR

ATH Jason “JJ” McDaniel, Madison County (Madison), Sr.

Despite missing a few games due to injury, McDaniel was one of the key pieces to the Cowboy winning their first state championship since the 2021 season. McDaniel wasn’t just a key weapon when it came to the offense, he was also key when it came to defense as well. McDaniel had 938 yards rushing on 116 carries and 14 touchdowns and recorded 43 tackles, five tackles for loss, and recovered a fumble.

CLASS RURAL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

RB Keenon Johnson, Hawthorne, Sr.

Improving upon his junior year statistics, Johnson had 1,764 yards rushing on 222 carries and scored 22 touchdowns in leading the Hornets back to a fifth consecutive Class Rural state championship appearance. Johnson even spent a little time on defense for the Hornets, collecting five tackles, a sack and deflecting two passes.

CLASS RURAL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

LB Kemari Scurry, Madison County, Sr.

What an massive upswing Scurry had in 2024 nearly doubling the number of tackles he recorded along with improving seven-fold on the number of sacks recorded. Scurry racked up 83 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, eight sacks, one quarterback hurry, recovering a fumble and recording a safety in helping lead the Cowboys to the Class Rural state championship.

CLASS RURAL SPECIALIST OF THE YEAR

K Maxwell Eyjolfsson, Fort White, Jr.

In Class Rural where kickers are often harder to come by, Fort White is the exception with Eyjolfsson who also plays soccer for the Indians, having a successful season. To his credit Eyjolfsson converted eight of his 11 field goal attempts with his longest coming from 33 yards and converted 23-of-32 point after attempts. Eyjolfsson also averaged 43.6 yards on kickoffs and had a 32.3 yard punt average as well for the Indians.

CLASS RURAL COACH OF THE YEAR

Price Harris, Madison County (Madison)

There is no coach in Class Rural more deserving of the honor than Price Harris. A 20-year head coaching veteran of Florida with stops at Williston, Taylor County, Frostproof, Dunnellon and now his alma mater Madison County, Harris finally accomplished something he came close to doing at previous stops and that was win a coveted state championship. That state championship was won on master game plan that was followed by the Cowboys athletes, effectively shutting down two-time defending state champion Hawthorne in the process.
