TOP 15 ANALYSIS – AFTER WEEK 2
THE BIG PICTURE
The Central Florida region’s top 15 heading into Week 3 is one of the most compelling early-season stories in the state. Celebration has staked out the top spot with three convincing wins, including a one-score thriller that showed the Storm can win tight games as well as blowouts. West Orange and Timber Creek have already met in a top-10 regional matchup, with the Warriors coming out on top in what was the defining game of the region’s second week. Deltona’s emergence as a genuine top-10 contender โ beating Bishop Moore by 60 points in one of the most dominant single-game performances anywhere in the state โ is the region’s most compelling individual story through two weeks. With a loaded schedule across all five days of the week, the Central Florida picture is about to get significantly clearer.
No. 1 Celebration โ Storm’s Unbeaten Start Has Everything, Including a Clutch Win
Three wins, three compelling results. Celebration opened by dismantling Osceola 53-0 in Week 1, added a 40-0 shutout of Haines City on Feb. 24, then showed a different dimension entirely by holding on for a 20-19 win over East Bay on Feb. 27. East Bay is a Tampa Bay region program, giving that result genuine cross-region credibility, and winning by one point after two blowouts tells you this program knows how to compete when the margin disappears. Their schedule strength figure of 35.42 ranks 89th statewide, firmly in the upper tier of all Florida programs. Tuesday brings the biggest test of the Storm’s season โ and arguably the most significant Central Florida regional matchup of the entire week โ when West Orange arrives. The Warriors just beat Timber Creek 32-9 last week in what was the region’s signature result, and a head-to-head between the top two unbeaten programs in the region this early in the season carries enormous ranking implications. Thursday brings Ocoee before Friday’s trip to Sebring closes the week. But Tuesday is the game that defines Celebration’s early season.
No. 2 Harmony โ Longhorns’ Dominant Week Raises the Ceiling on Their Early Season
No Week 1 game in the data, but Harmony’s Week 2 made an immediate and emphatic statement. The Longhorns shut out Dr. Phillips 27-0 on Feb. 23 โ a program sitting in the middle tier of the regional standings โ then turned around and beat West Shore 48-0 on Feb. 25. West Shore is a Space Coast region program, giving that result cross-region credibility. Their schedule strength figure of 17.33 ranks 275th statewide, a middle-tier mark, and with only two games on record the sample size is limited. Friday brings Steinbrenner, a Tampa Bay program that will offer another cross-region measuring stick opportunity. How Harmony performs against that test will do more to define their early-season standing than anything they have done so far.
No. 3 Horizon โ Hawks Have Been the Most Dominant Program in the Region
Three games, three shutouts, 105 points scored, zero allowed โ no program in the Central Florida top 15 has been more dominant through two weeks than Horizon. The Hawks beat Lake Buena Vista 54-0 in Week 1, added a 13-0 win over Dr. Phillips on Feb. 24, and closed the week with a 38-0 demolition of Colonial on Feb. 26. Colonial currently sits in the lower tier of the regional standings, which tempers that last result, but the consistency of Horizon’s shutout performances across all three games is noteworthy. Their schedule strength figure of 5.81 ranks 403rd statewide โ in the bottom third of all Florida programs โ which is the significant caveat to everything they have produced so far. Tuesday brings Olympia, a lower-tier regional program, before Thursday’s road trip to Osceola provides a stiffer test. That Osceola matchup, then Friday against Osceola again, will tell us considerably more about whether Horizon’s dominance translates against competitive opposition.
