TOP 10 ANALYSIS – AFTER WEEK 2
THE BIG PICTURE
The Southwest Florida region’s top 10 heading into Week 3 has been reshaped by a data correction that changes the story significantly. Bonita Springs is not 4-1 coming off a stunning upset loss โ the Bull Sharks are 5-0 and have outscored opponents 146-19, making them one of the most dominant unbeaten programs in the state. That correction vaults them to third in the regional standings and reframes the entire conversation at the top. Parrish remains the region’s No. 1 program at 3-0, and Thursday’s matchup between the Bulls and Lakewood Ranch remains the marquee game of the week. But Bonita Springs’ Tuesday clash with Bishop Verot now carries far more regional weight than it did before โ and the Southwest Florida region is deeper and more competitive than the earlier picture suggested.
No. 1 Parrish โ Bulls Have Outscored Opponents 87-12 and the Biggest Test Is Thursday
Parrish has been the most dominant program in the Southwest Florida region through two weeks and it has not been particularly close. The Bulls beat Manatee 26-12 in Week 1 โ a result that looks increasingly significant given where the Hurricanes now sit in the regional standings โ then shut out Braden River 18-0 before closing Week 2 with a 43-0 dismantling of Southeast. Their schedule strength figure of 21.08 ranks 232nd statewide, a middle-tier mark. The opening win over Manatee remains the most credible result on the resume to date. Thursday brings Lakewood Ranch โ the region’s fifth-ranked program at 3-1 โ in the marquee Southwest Florida matchup of the week. The Mustangs have won three consecutive games since their opening loss and are playing their best football right now. A Parrish win cements their hold on the regional top spot. A Lakewood Ranch win immediately tightens the standings at the top and signals that the Mustangs are ready to make a serious run.
No. 2 North Fort Myers โ Red Knights’ Split Start Sets Up a Critical Week
North Fort Myers enters Week 3 having answered a question and raised another. The Red Knights opened with a 7-0 shutout loss to Island Coast in Week 1 โ a lower-tier regional program โ which immediately raised questions about a program that came in ranked first in the region. They responded with a 12-6 win over Dunbar in Week 2 to stabilize, but the Island Coast result remains the defining question mark of their early season. Their schedule strength figure of 8.93 ranks 367th statewide, in the lower tier of all Florida programs. Tuesday brings Fort Myers โ a lower-tier regional program โ before Friday brings Ida Baker, another lower-tier opponent. North Fort Myers needs clean results across both games to rebuild their standing, but the competition level will not provide the kind of validation the Red Knights ultimately need to reclaim their preseason standing.
No. 3 Bonita Springs โ Bull Sharks Are 5-0 and One of the Region’s Most Compelling Stories
Bonita Springs is 5-0 and has outscored opponents 146-19 โ one of the most dominant unbeaten starts of any program in the Southwest Florida region. The Bull Sharks beat Cape Coral 55-0 and Estero 25-6 in Week 1 before adding wins over Lehigh 33-0, Riverview 13-7, and Leto 20-6 in Week 2. The Riverview and Leto results came against out-of-region opponents, and the lower-tier competition level across the full body of work is reflected in their schedule strength figure of 7.09 ranking 387th statewide โ the significant caveat to an otherwise impressive resume. Tuesday brings Bishop Verot โ the region’s eighth-ranked program at 2-0 โ in the most significant regional test of Bonita Springs’ season. Then Friday brings a Tampa Bay region doubleheader against Countryside and Clearwater Central Catholic, providing two genuine cross-region measuring-stick opportunities. This week will define exactly where Bonita Springs stands among the region’s elite.
