TOP 10 ANALYSIS – AFTER WEEK 2
THE BIG PICTURE
The Space & Treasure Coast region heading into Week 3 is anchored by Fort Pierce Central at the top โ a program that has already taken the second-ranked team in the state to a one-point game and has a schedule strength figure that dwarfs every other program in the top 10. Behind the Cobras, Martin County and South Fork have both been dominant through their respective schedules, with the Tigers not having allowed a point all season and the Bulldogs having outscored opponents by a combined 165-0. Jensen Beach is the region’s other unbeaten program at 4-0 and sits fourth, but their schedule strength remains a question that Thursday’s matchup against Vero Beach will begin to address. The middle of the rankings โ John Carroll, Treasure Coast, Fort Pierce Westwood โ is genuinely competitive, and a week loaded with head-to-head regional matchups means the picture will look considerably different by Saturday night.
No. 1 Fort Pierce Central โ Cobras’ One-Point Loss to State No. 2 Is the Region’s Most Credible Defeat
No program in the Space & Treasure Coast top 10 has played a harder schedule through two weeks. Fort Pierce Central’s schedule strength figure of 38.81 ranks 72nd statewide โ firmly in the upper tier of all Florida programs โ and the body of work it has produced reflects a program willing to schedule elite out-of-region competition. The Cobras beat Centennial 37-0 in Week 1, then went to a multi-team event on Feb. 20 and beat Spruce Creek 46-0 and Mainland 13-0 before closing Week 2 on Feb. 28 with a 14-13 loss to Alonso โ the second-ranked program in the state โ and a 33-32 four overtime win over Bloomingdale. Back-to-back one-point games to close the week show a program that competes at the highest level regardless of the opponent. Monday brings Okeechobee โ a lower-tier regional opponent โ before Thursday’s road trip to Park Vista from the South Florida region offers another cross-region measuring stick ahead of Week 4.
No. 2 Martin County โ Tigers Have Not Allowed a Point All Season
Three games, three shutouts, and a point differential of plus-62 โ Martin County has been the region’s most dominant program in terms of defensive performance through two weeks. The Tigers opened with a 17-0 win over Centennial in Week 1, then beat Fort Pierce Westwood 26-0 and John Carroll 19-0 in Week 2. The John Carroll result is the most significant mark on their resume โ the Rams currently sit fifth in these rankings at 3-2 with real early-season credentials, and holding them scoreless is a meaningful statement. Their schedule strength figure of 22.08 ranks 224th statewide, a solid middle-tier mark. The week ahead is the Tigers’ most demanding yet. Tuesday brings Lincoln Park Academy, then Saturday Martin County plays Suncoast and Olympic Heights in a pair of out-of-region matchups that will add cross-region depth to a resume that has been built entirely within the region through two weeks.
No. 3 South Fork Bulldogs โ Bulldogs Are the Region’s Most Prolific Unbeaten Program
Four wins, 165 points scored, zero points allowed โ South Fork’s plus-165 point differential is the most dominant early-season number in the entire Space & Treasure Coast region. The Bulldogs beat Pine School 42-0 in Week 1, then added wins over Sebastian River 53-0, Fort Pierce Westwood 31-0, and Lincoln Park Academy 39-0 in Week 2. That Lincoln Park Academy result โ a 39-0 shutout of a program sitting ninth in these rankings at 4-1 โ is the clearest statement South Fork has made about their standing. Their schedule strength figure of 12.73 ranks 318th statewide, toward the lower end of the middle tier, which remains the primary context for an otherwise dominant resume. Tuesday brings Legacy โ a program sitting outside the top 10 at 2-2 โ before Thursday’s road matchup against Cardinal Newman from the Palm Beach region provides the first genuine out-of-region test of South Fork’s season.
