Tampa Bay’s Power 25 changed substantially behind Lakeland in Week 2.

The Dreadnaughts remain No. 1 after sitting out the week, but Carrollwood Day and Tampa Bay Tech both move up after impressive wins. Carrollwood Day blanked River Ridge 45-0 to reach No. 2, while Tampa Bay Tech beat Sumner 35-10 and climbs to No. 3. Armwood, which entered the week at No. 2, slides after losing 38-14 to Don Bosco Prep.

That movement at the top only tells part of the story. Lakeland Christian and Keswick Christian continued piling up dominant wins, Calvary Christian posted a 44-0 shutout, Gaither beat Plant 43-28 and Clearwater Central Catholic took a 43-24 win over Port Charlotte.

Carrollwood Day and Tampa Bay Tech Take Advantage

Carrollwood Day has been one of the strongest teams in the region through two weeks. The Patriots opened with a 41-7 win over Eau Gallie and followed with a 45-0 shutout of River Ridge, giving them an 86-7 scoring margin and a 2-0 start.

That second result sends Carrollwood Day up to No. 2 while Lakeland remains on top.

Tampa Bay Tech also continues climbing. The Titans followed a 27-6 win over Lake Gibson with a 35-10 victory over Sumner, a direct result against a team that had entered Week 2 inside the top 10.

That win moves Tampa Bay Tech into the No. 3 position and gives the Titans a 62-16 scoring advantage through two games. With consecutive wins and a head-to-head victory over another ranked team, Tampa Bay Tech is already building a stronger current-season case than its preseason position suggested.

Armwood Slides After Loss at Don Bosco Prep

Armwood experienced the opposite kind of Week 2.

The Hawks had opened with a 17-7 win over Lennard and entered the week No. 2 in Tampa Bay, but Don Bosco Prep handed them a 38-14 loss in New Jersey.

That sends Armwood backward in the Power 25 and gives the FPRI a very different second result to evaluate. One convincing win and one 24-point loss leave the Hawks at 1-1 heading into Week 3.

Sumner also takes a significant hit after its loss to Tampa Bay Tech. The Stingrays had opened with a 55-0 win over Strawberry Crest, but the 35-10 defeat gives them both ends of the early-season spectrum and sends them down seven positions.

Lakeland Christian, Calvary Christian and Keswick Keep Rolling

Several teams farther down the Power 25 are making strong cases for continued upward movement.

Lakeland Christian followed its 81-7 opening win over Santa Fe Catholic with a 57-0 shutout of McLaughlin. Through two games, the Vikings have scored 138 points and allowed seven.

Calvary Christian is also 2-0 after beating King 44-0. The Warriors had already opened with a 36-9 victory over North Miami, giving them an 80-9 scoring margin through the first two weeks.

Keswick Christian has been even stingier defensively. The Crusaders opened with a 20-0 shutout of Cambridge Christian, then beat Bishop McLaughlin 49-0. That leaves Keswick 2-0 with a 69-0 scoring margin and no points allowed.

The FPRI caps the impact of runaway margins, so those lopsided scores do not provide unlimited benefit. But consecutive dominant results still matter, particularly while preseason information continues losing influence.

Gaither Beats Plant, CCC Handles Port Charlotte

Gaither added another important win by beating Plant 43-28. The Cowboys had already opened the season with a 56-0 victory over Blake, and the Week 2 result gives them a much more useful second data point against a stronger opponent.

Clearwater Central Catholic also delivered a notable result, beating Port Charlotte 43-24. The Marauders had opened with a 28-24 win over Palmetto and are now 2-0 after another strong performance.

Those wins help explain why the middle of Tampa Bay’s Power 25 remains so fluid. With 25 teams in the regional rankings, there are enough head-to-head results every week to create movement well beyond the top five.

Week 3 Spotlight: Venice Visits Lakeland

Lakeland returns from its open week with one of the biggest games of the week, hosting Venice at Bryant Stadium on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The Dreadnaughts have only one completed regular-season result, a 47-0 win over Kathleen, while Venice arrives unbeaten. For Lakeland, Week 3 provides an immediate opportunity to strengthen the No. 1 position with a fresh result after watching the rankings move around it in Week 2.

Carrollwood Day hosts Northside Christian in district play after its 2-0 start, while Tampa Bay Tech hosts Jefferson looking to build on the 35-10 win over Sumner. Sumner, meanwhile, gets an immediate chance to respond when Gaither comes to Stingray Stadium.

Armwood travels to Plant City looking to rebound from the Don Bosco Prep loss, and Jesuit hosts Vanguard after its Week 2 game with Bishop Verot did not produce a reported result.

Tampa Bay Is Starting to Separate

Lakeland remains No. 1, but the picture directly behind the Dreadnaughts has changed quickly.

Carrollwood Day has climbed to No. 2 after outscoring Eau Gallie and River Ridge 86-7. Tampa Bay Tech moves to No. 3 after wins over Lake Gibson and Sumner, while Armwood has been knocked backward by its first loss.

Farther down the rankings, Lakeland Christian, Calvary Christian, Keswick Christian and Gaither are all building résumés that could create even more movement over the next several weeks.

That is what makes Tampa Bay different from some of the smaller regional rankings. The Power 25 is deep enough that there is always pressure coming from somewhere, and two weeks of actual results are already beginning to separate the teams that are outperforming their preseason starting points from those being pulled backward.

Week 3 should only accelerate that process.
