In defense of some of the larger schools if your school is a long distance from where your students live or it is located in a neighborhood that may not be safe at night ( I'm talking about traffic more so than crime) then I understand attendance being lower.

If Apopka got that kind of student support, we would have over 3,000 + at all home games. The students alone would make up well over 2,000 of the total.
Exactly. It is the kids' schools if they don't care now will they ever. I guess we are lucky to be in a small town with nothing else to do on a Friday night

The schools need to be fan friendly and make it easier for people to attend. We have a lot of elderly people that come to games and cannot get up the bleachers so we have ground level seats in one end zone with golf cart parking behind them for those that just want to sit in their golf cart. Schools should reach out to their community and find out any way they can get more people to attend. I know many schools give game passes to students that maintain an A B average. You could also give passes for good conduct. Having the kids there is the first step. I believe a school should have 3/4 of their students in attendance at all home games.

Oh wow ...& that's nice man how is the crowd support
We have less than 3500 people in town our school is 7-12 with 500 students, Not sure how many our stadium holds but it is always full.

Columbia has some of that stuff you mentioned
They use Hudl, I've see they have 2 tv sideline monitors and a endzone and press box camera and even a few iPads
Flat out its resources, some don't have money to afford it or the coaching staffs who have money don't feel it's worth the cost of it
What needs to happen is communities need to support their teams better, in other states there not anything to do but athletics but Florida got too much to do
I look at our stands and not only are they weak in numbers but frankly our fans are oblivious and lazy, I've went off on fans a few weeks ago for not paying attention to games but no effect, guess they like being yelled at
Port St Joe has a really nice weight room, tablets on the sideline to watch film between possessions, 3 sets of new uniforms, Riddell speedflex helmets, first rate locker room, and although the stadium and school are old everything is kept in working order and freshly painted. I am not trying to be boastful but the community is always ready to donate to our sports programs and will as long as we win. We also have a school administration puts sports on a level with academics knowing that both are important. Port St Joe has an average household income of $40,865

Pretty sure. Maybe Central can put it on 'em.

I think img would go between 6-4 and 8-2 if they played the top 10 South Florida teams
But Gorman did beat the best Florida team last year and Central probably isn't the best in their district and Gorman is coming off a 55 game win streak being snapped, this Gorman team is going to bring every ounce of frustration on that field next week and Im just not sure Central will be able to stop it but I could be wrong
Not sure what is up but I know one of their players was in town with his family this week and I ran into another IMG player at VSU while there with my son on a recruiting trip and he told me they were off this week.

Pinkos was really nailing them the last couple of years but he seems to be a little off so far this year. Maybe it just takes a few weeks to get the numbers right.
-
Had they left the playoff system alone by keeping district play I think everything would worked itself out. We could have more hurricanes this year and that would really throw a wrench into the mix.

We got some transfers from Hamilton and Suwannee and other area schools so i see us getting stronger with these rules
If you were allowed to recruit you could sell kids on the exposure they would get, specialized classes you offer, your higher than average ACT scores etc. This would then force other schools to offer better academics and such to keep their students or draw more in.

Plenty of teams in the US recruit, maybe not to the level IMG does, but they are out there.
Red Lion comes to mind before they went bust.
The Bishop recruits but they don't admit it.
Mater Dai recruits but you don't hear it.
I could go on, you get the point.
Power teams compete to win, they bring in the best players they can get. Players do the recruiting in some cases, coaches under the radar in other cases. Florida just up'd the ante and doesn't deny it. Teams like Chaminade are just a step down from being an IMG type team. They can get away with it under the Private school rules. Now, with open transfers, you will see it more and more in the years to come. Columbia will profit from it in the future if they want to win championships. Life for HS football is evolving. It's not easy going through changes, but in the end you usually have a better product.
I would say all private schools recruit on some level. I personally think now that we have school choice that public schools should be allowed to recruit. I think it could really make schools focus more on education and get kids better prepared for what they will be dealing with at the next level.

I know last year we sent uniforms to schools in West Virginia that had been flooded. I don't know how great the need is going to be but if we can get a line of communication going I think it will help.
-
I thought I would start a thread where teams needing any uniforms, equipment, facilities could notify everyone. Any teams with any extra equipment or stadiums or practice fields they could share could also list them.

Starting to look like Franklin County is (gasp) getting competitive.
Before the season their coach told they would win at least 8 games and make the playoffs. I don't know if that will happen but he has done a lot of positive things. I have been impressed with the foundation he is building unfortunately talent comes into play and you need athletes to win.
-
I talked with our Superintendent last night at the game and he said the word he got was that the extra-curricular activities would be left up to each school's administration. I have seen a lot of cancellations up here but there are still games that will be played tonight.

As far as maintenance and keeping facilities looking good there is really no excuse not to. Just about every county has inmate work crews that will paint and do whatever maintenance needs to be done and won't cost the schools anything, paint is a lot of bang for the buck, and other materials to keep facilities up are not too expensive. I'm sure some of these schools may need some help organizing their fundraising for equipment but people out there will give money if asked. Lot of NFL players from Florida schools don't be afraid to reach out 10 grand aint much to them but huge to a struggling program.
