  1. We played Taylor a couple of times in either pre season games or KO Classics some years past. Always thought Taylor was a solid team. You did do pretty well last season getting to the 2nd round. The only problem I see is having trouble with 1A teams like Port St. Joe, Madison. and Dixie. But giving 7A Chiles and 4A Bradford fits. Unless you had some transfers in then losing your QB/RB, and top WR, to graduation is not going to help. Let us know who will be replacing QB/RB Rayshawn Hamilton, as he was 50% of your offense, and WR Ken Smith?
  2. James................Unfortunately the Colts will probably be nowhere near what they were last season. They lost a bundle to graduation including their experienced QB and have a new HC. It would surprise me if they are even somewhat competitive with TCA. Although, as you stated, each team will use the Classic to assess their capabilities going forward. So, we may not be able to take this game as a true indicator of the upcoming season.
  3. Bill Wiles, the HC of Sante Fe for 5 years, turned that program around from doormat to playoff contender. He left after the season last year to takeover as HC at Trenton. Sante Fe now has a new HC Cliff Harrell who is a former assistant at Williston and at Oakleaf. Since Wiles was a huge motivator and who seemed to be a disciplinarian with that team, I'm not sure a new coach is going to maintain that motivation and/or that discipline. Sante Fe was a very skilled bunch when we played them in the 2015 pre season game.
  4. You can Google "emoticons" and then either "save as" or "copy" whatever picture you want into My Docs or to your hard drive. Then copy the picture from My Docs or hard drive to your forum message.
  5. Is it the chicken or the egg scenario? Are most of these transfers happening because the parents relocate and their son naturally follows or are they happening because the parents are following their son? I realize that some transfers are within the same town or city. But, it seems that many are transfers out of the area. If so, how do these parents reconcile having to find a new place to live (either renting ot buying) and having to find new sources of employment. I remember back a few years when a Sophomore QB moved from Tampa to Ocala to play for our team. He played one season and moved back to Tampa and the same team he had come from. In his Freshman year he had moved from a team in south Florida to that team in Tampa. Obviously his parents, who I knew, were following him around. I wonder how often this happens?
  6. I stand corrected. You're right. NM plays at TCA on the 19th. Somehow I missed that one.
  7. I don't think that TCA plays North Marion this season. However, Chaminade comes knocking in Ocala 10/14 against the Colts. Should be very interesting as the Colts have always been a quality 5A team. But, maybe not this season as they lost a bunch to graduation. Their starting QB, one of their top RB's. and almost all of their WR's. Believe they will have a Sophomore at QB this season.
  8. I really wonder how much practice they get in at midnight after a long day. I don't see the positives in it and young teenagers getting home at 3 AM doesn't really make much sense. especially in certain neighborhoods.
  9. I'm not that familiar with 7A. However, that schedule seems pretty formidable. 3 teams, IMHO, may give Columbia trouble. Buchholz, Camden, and Escambia. Buchholz has been getting stronger and stronger each year. They are going to be one tough team and may challenge in 7A. You have to play them at Citizen's Field, which is usually loaded to the rafters with supporters. I know they lost their QB. However, that is pretty much all they lost. Their replacement QB was an experienced backup in 2015. Camden always seems to be a quality team. However, you play them in Lake City which may be the equalizer. Escambia is a long drive and they defeated you in Lake City last year. I think they are a lot tougher 6A team than their schedule shows. Of course you can never overlook Bolles. They are a 4A team that plays like IMG. If they are the same as last year then you will probably defeat them. Beating them at Bolles is more difficult I'm sure, something you did fairly easily in 2015.
  10. I'm going to wait until next Monday when the practices will be in full gear. Can't tell much about a team when their running around in helmets and shorts. By the way, what's with midnight practice? Is it just a tradition like black Friday? Or does it have something to do with setting a precedent with team discipline?
  11. A while back people were getting confused between Trinity Christian Academy, Jax and Trinity Catholic HS, Ocala. So, I guess someone started to call Trinity Catholic - OTC (Ocala Trinity Catholic). So now it's TCA and OTC.
  12. May I ask what specifically it was about academics that these schools were found guilty of? Were they allowing students to play football that did not maintain a certain grad average? Or, something else?
  13. Losing a HC, this close to the season, can be more devastating to a team than losing a 3 year D-1 QB. The new HC has to learn a whole new system, learn about his players, hope he can work with the current assistants or try to replace them quickly, work with the AD and school administration. I imagine that sometimes the transition can go fairly smoothly. However, I believe that most of the time there is a period of confusion and letdown. Depending on how well the players got along with the previous coach they can be resentful toward a new coach and take it on in their performance. Since a coach can be a father figure losing him can be more than just XX's and OO's. I would not want to be in this new coach's shoes.
  14. Folks, we're talking about high school football, for pete's sake We're not discussing the capabilities of the Russian and Chinese armies versus the US military. Every member of this forum is, without a doubt, supporting a team or teams in an area. We all like to think that our team or teams can significantly compete. Otherwise, on the first day of the new season, the FHSAA would just give out the trophies to the teams that, in the opinion of a few "experts", will win the whole thing anyway and are thus deserving. No need to play out the season as that is obviously a waste of time. Some here on the forum are enthusiastic about their team and make a case for why they think that team can win over another team or can win states. It's harmless opinion and keeps this forum lively. Otherwise, as I stated, we may as well anoint the champions today and get on with our lives. Armwood may be the best team since the '72 Dolphins, but the season still has to be played. Any team can defeat any other team on any given Friday. This has been proven again and again. Whether Vanguard or Pine Forest, or any other team, has a chance against them is completely hypothetical and debatable as the teams are just now starting to don their gear.
  15. Just conversed with Coach Sturdivant and will get out to see the team practice when the full pads go on April 8th. I think we're going to see a completely different animal this season from Trinity Catholic. Think 2005 and 2006. Coach believes that the players have bought into his way of coaching, which is a collegiate style, and that people are going to be very surprised when they meet up with the Celtics. The team is Senior laden with many who have been on the team for 3 and 4 years. Also got in about 7 new players from the public schools. I have seen them on you tube and they are pretty darn good. Our schedule will get us ready for any team that we meet in the playoffs: 7A Buchholz in the KO Classic - a 2nd round playoff team 2A Admiral Farragut - a second round playoff team 5A Jesuit - a 4th round playoff team 6A Lake Weir - a 500 team but still 6A 5A Wakulla - a 5th round playoff team 4A South Sumter - a 1st round playoff team 3A CCC - a 3rd round playoff team 3A Westminster - a 1st round playoff team We also have to get by 3A First Academy in our district. I'm told that they are equal to the First Academy of 2012 where they defeated us and went to the 3rd round of the playoffs against Madison.
  16. Actually James, Valez was very good at Trinity, however our best kicker and one of the best in Florida was Michael Zacco. The only time he didn't put the kickoff in the end zone was when the coach didn't want it put there. Also has the record for the longest field goal in HS of 53 yards. Or at least it was one of the longest. I'm not 100% sure. Played on the undefeated Celtic team in 2005 that defeated Pahokee in the championship game. Graduated from Middle Tennessee State in 2010. http://247sports.com/Player/Michael-Zacco-40942
  17. And, Chaminade was supposed to be odds on to head north to Orlando this season. Hmmmmmmmm. Loss of a good HC can be devastating in HS sports.
  18. Back in the day, when Newberry, Union County, and Blountstown were in 3A, They were all very good teams. All of them were champions at one time or another. Believe that either Newberry or Union County knocked TCA out of the playoffs once or twice and Newberry knocked us out of the playoffs one year. Now they are competing in 1A and are at the bottom of the pile.
  19. Zachary West - Senior Kicker http://www.hudl.com/video/3/3908342/5721ce5f041ddc1b0066796d
  20. 3A Trinity Catholic Celtics Roster: 42 Returning Players: 36 Transfers: Three from 6A Forest HS: WR/FS Allen Miller; RB/CB Tony Brewton; RB/OLB Robert Wesley One from 7A West Port HS: TE/DE Brandon Dickson One from 4A Dunnellon HS: K ZAck West One from the Trinity LaCross team. Miller is an excellent RB with all sorts of speed West puts most kickoffs in the end zone. Will really help us as we were hurting in that position.
  21. I think that Perry is finally committed to the Hurricanes. This is the year for Vanguard to put it all together if they are ever going to accomplish that goal. Coach Farmer seems to be bringing then along pretty well and they are given a very good chance of getting into the 3rd round and possibly beyond. Only one thing concerns me. Last season they had a roster of 82. So far they are showing a roster of 39. http://www.ocala.com/sports/20160730/perry-assures-his-commitment-to-miami
  22. Our defensive coordinator ran the 3-3 Stack or Nickle defense when he was with the Celtics. Works best against a Spread Offense. A very successful defensive formation for us and kept us in many games where the offense faltered.
  23. A Google definition for those of you, like myself, who did not know what a West Coast Offense is. Believe that John Madden used it with Oakland when he was there. The West Coast offense is an offense that places a greater emphasis on passing than on running characterized by short, horizontal passing routes in lieu of running plays to "stretch out" defenses, opening up the potential for long runs or long passes. The offense uses a specific naming system, with the routes for wide receivers and tight ends receiving three digit numbers, and routes for backs having unique names. This provides an efficient way to communicate many different plays with minimal memorization. Seems like it would be a good offense for HS teams, although many HS teams either don't do passing well or run ground game offenses like the Wing-T.
  24. I remember the 2010 season when we went undefeated, beat Bolles by a pretty large margin in the 2nd round, and then had to make that long trip from Ocala to Pensacola to meet up with Pensacola Catholic in the 3rd round. I felt like I was driving to California. Luckily we decided to stay overnight. Defeated one of the best Pensacola Catholic teams that they ever had, 21-14, and then beat University School in the title game. I don't do long long drives anymore because that drive is still vivid in my memory.
