  1. All true. For a long time Daytona Mainland played in the Metro Conference with all the big Orlando schools. Most of them only 50-60 miles away. With the growing bedroom communities springing up to the east of downtown coinciding with the Disney explosion, these closer new schools replaced some of the old rivals. Up till a decade or two ago the Orlando Sentinel was still selling thousands of daily newspapers on the Volusia county side of the St John's River bridge (30 miles from Daytona).
  2. Tough three loss season for the 'Noles, but who wouldn't want to play and give their all for Coach Bowden. Unlike the mostly stoic coaches of today, this guy's motor was always full speed ahead with positive thinking and heart felt encouragement for his boys. That was a special coach and leader there. They don't coming along everyday like him. Thanks OldSchool, watched the whole program.
  3. what was the John L. rhyme ? (Edit) Never mind it came to me. Give'em Hell John L.
  4. Emmitt Smith #22 , Pensacola Woodham, #27 Tony Green ? Off the top of my fading head...wild guesses. Edit: when in doubt, read the clues and don't just look at the pictures
  5. This is for CatScatch ......so he can lust in his heart...like Jimmy Carter. Layla's out there. https://www.celebtattler.com/layla-kiffin-ex-husband-of-lane-kiffin/
  6. #4 Ken Riley ? Great DB. Should be in HOF. Thanks for the hints.
  7. #1 is Eddie McShan, Gainsville Purple Hurricanes. Saw him in Daytona (1967) beat my Mainland Bucs 32-34? to 27-28? #3 is a Hurricane, George Mira ? Fran Curci ? Remember the face....
  8. Nice to hear that. Don't follow the teams like in years past. Kind of moved on a bit....Buc Forever
  9. His dad Robert "Gator" Cooper played basketball at Mainland and we graduated together.....another shameless homer plug
  10. They say history repeats itself. Dillard's last football championship was 1989 in Daytona Beach. I got wings for you too !
  11. Oct 4 - Mainland at Cocoa. Good mid season test for both teams.
  12. yeah, the scratching and itching was left out on the final cut. Josh does have a "G" Rated website.
  13. Well, I had my Mainland Royal Blue sunglasses on.....what else can I say. Never let facts get in the way of a good story.
  14. As a side note, the son of my wife's cousin and his new girlfriend came with me to the game. Both were young FSU students from inner city Miami. Fast forward 23 yrs and their happily married, with two children, she's a doctor and he's an Army colonel now serving oversea's. I'm now old and retired, sitting on the couch, shirtless, shoeless, and watching TV (Wimbledon semi-finals)......life moves on in unexpected ways folks. Make the best of it.
  15. Elvis Peacock, now that's a blast from the past. He wasn't to shabby running that Oklahoma Wishbone either. Played with a guy at B-CC ( a hard hitting LB'er) who talked about Elvis all the time.....
  16. Jam, Bolles QB broke ankle at Bartow goal line early in the 1st quarter. And it was COLD, but beautiful clear blue skies (Daytona Chamber of Commerce).
  17. Hope all is well Jam... https://littletorchnovel.com/author-bios
  18. ...aging beats the alternative, but the player names and numbers don't come easy any more. Thank god for the internet and spell check. Without them ....just another feeble old man.
  19. It's not Randal "Thrill" Hill, Sean Taylor, Jesse Armstead, Eddie Brown, Benny Blades, Brett Perriman, or Ed Reed. The 'Cane is catching a pass in front of a #85, a tight end. So.... he's a db or a Lb. How about KP, from MCC ?
  20. Great hands. Saw him win a championship. Reinard's cousins Vince,Tony, and Kenny Wilson all starred for Daytona Mainland. Best football bothers to ever put on the blue and gold uniform...and all three could fly on a track.
  21. Yes, Cris Collinsworth.....oh, that was Titusville Astronaut, and the year was 1975......never mind
  22. Thanks, that's the writer ! The movie is call "Cross Creek." The actress playing the part of Ms Rawlings (Mary Steenburgen) wrote "The Yearling." Rip Torn, Peter Coyle, and Alfre Woodard starred. It scored a 64% favorable rating by Rotten Tomatoes. The Yearling scored 100%. And I'm not sure if I ever saw the better movie.
