  1. Seems crazy but something to think about is Venice and all of the fields around our area are grass. Its been awhile since Venice played on turf. Lakeland in the Spring game, Plant last season in the Spring game, and in Texas last year.
  2. We are all looking forward to seeing a quality game. On a side note its always nice to play at nice facilites. From the film it looks as if the field is very nice. Another plus for getting to play in Dec against one of the best teams in the country.
  3. Here is my 2 cents. After watching film on STA and with my son playing for Venice there are some areas in which Venice will be at a disadvantage. Venice needs to play perfect and have STA make some mistakes. It has been known to happen. STA has great players which no on can deny. But if there is no way to win the game why make the trip down and go ahead and put their name on the State Title. Yes Camden County and Manatee didnt pan out to be the test we thought of. Braden River is still a pretty good team and Im sure most would not want to play them much less twice. Our players are excited win or lose to play. Doesnt matter if they have the best players around, thats why you play the game. If STA wins or even rolls them up so what. It is what it is. Now if Venice wins then what ? STA had a bad day? Sure Venice doesnt make it to the final 4 every year and our players are not 5 star Rival prep stars. But in the end both teams have to play the game. Venice does do some things well that should be different than what STA has seen. Is it enough to win ? We will see at 7:30 pm on Friday night. Our community is behind them win or lose.
  4. It sends the message to the underclassmen that it will be here when you get back to deal with. On the other hand its more of a slap on the wrist considering the nature of the video I saw. Fight between Braden River and North Port last year resulted in 4 game suspension for the players involved. It was nothing like the scene portrayed on video. In any case is a shame to see these types of things put a bad light on those seniors last memory of playing football. Unless you win them all your final year there will be heartbreak but to end this way has the wrong feeling altogether.
  5. Read somewhere 4 of the 5 suspended are now able to return for the Semi Final game this Friday.
  6. To add all coaches should have been looking who made the playoffs this year and on the phone early so they can get that on contract. Scheduling now became harder for some and easier for others.
  7. I did not do any calculations on any of the other district winners but that total I came up with for the winner of 7A 12 was fairly low. With that said their seeding would be the undoing of them in the first round as well.
  8. Which is why Palmetto who was a pretty good team has not seen the playoffs because it has taken losses in the past 2 years to Venice and Braden River. I don't bash any team as I'm not a part of what they have or follow them but that district I had searched has not produced a team to be competitive while a Palmetto was for sure more deserving of a playoff spot based off of how the games played out in the first round than either team that showed up to play.
  9. I was too under that impression so in the above case for instance, IF you can beat the other 2 teams in your district why bother playing anyone tough. I thought that was the point to steer teams to play tougher schedules ?
  10. So I have a math question that I would like someone to check for me. In 7A district 12 you have 3 teams Gulf Coast the district winner this year had a record of 7-3 reg season and with the current points system recieves 290 points South Fort Myers runner up at 9-1 with the current points system gets 405 points. I picked a random team at 5-5 which ended up being South Fork which if my math is correct would have earned 300 points Seems that being a district winner would prove more important than anything based off of this math. Am I missing the point? If you win your district regardless of who is in it you are automatically in as one of the 16 ?
  11. No names will be released if they are minors.
  12. Venice defense gets a pick returns it for 60 yard to the 17 and then Laroche scores the next play. With in 35 sec our defense was back on the field. Our defense is in shape but scoring 9 times quickly puts a bit of strain in a high intensity game. Braden River did have more total yards in the second half but it took time off the clock when they scored. Overall assessment was Braden River tried using there size and athletes both ways. They did it in the first game as well but this time you could physically see them tire out. Then the 2 way players stopped both ways and it was the beginning of the end. Rumors were a couple of their players got in trouble and did not play so that was a distraction that did not help. Braden River also was rumored to have called the FHSAA and asked them to ban the use of the Golf Cart with lights and the cannon after any scoring or big plays. They artificial noise was a distraction I guess. We then had a sign that said BANG instead of the cannon. In all honesty I thought Braden River played better in the first game. I thought Venice played the same.
  13. Don't hold back tell us how you really feel. In any case its a shame to see that type of action after the game. Mostly for those seniors whose last game is now marred by what will become a hot topic.
  14. Well that was eventful. Venice 64 Braden River 42
  15. In any cas my son has played against Josh Booker on many occasions. He is a talented kid. Played him in basketball and football for a few years. He tranfered away from Sarasota due to the mystic of Manatee. When Venice played Manatee I could count the number of rushing attempts he had on my one had. Venice has a different style of player on its team. If you transfer to Venice it can be very different than what some are used to from the coaching staff.
  16. I have not heard that but anything is possible.
  17. I agree with you on Robinson playing defense. I have not seen him play since the Spring game vs Venice in which he was very opposing on defense. Big kid and plently to offer. In the KOC Plant I thought over looked Venice and took them maybe lightly, At one point the conditioning of their players was suspect. They are from all accounts a very diffrent team that I saw way back in August.
  18. Being this is at home it gives Venice the slight edge. If the game were at Braden River the role is reversed. My guess is Raymond Thomas will get the ball more for Braden River. They showed the could pass the ball but I have watched that kid run it up on us last year. Fenwick is a big target that does not get the credit he probably should. Venice needs to get out in front and stay ahead. That will keep the crowd into it. Defense just needs a few stops here and there to limit their offensive drives. With the no huddle Venice runs the defense is put in tough positions some times. I can only hope to see the offense score early and often.
  19. Does Robinson still play defense or is he only at WR ? He is a different style player that teams need to account for
  20. The talk after last night is plan on coming early to get a seat. Will be standing room only at some point. As far as the game--lets just say plently of film study this week.
  21. I have to be honest I dont post much just because I enjoy reading about what is going on around the state. As I wake up today this should be a match up both teams have been kind of forseeing. Without too much looking forward and taking care of what is in front of you next friday night is anticapted to have the largest crowd since the Pouncy brothers and #1 in the nation Lakeland played at Venice. As far as the game itself, neither team is the favorite by any margin.
  22. Braden River O line was much bigger last year. They had size that every team couldn't handle until STA. That being said they do not have that same luxury this year. Venice also does not possess size at O line. What they do well at is pulling and creating a small crease for the RB. Barring any upset they will play again and one really good team from the south will be sitting home after 2nd round.
  23. I missed the chance to watch them play Braden River last year. In all accounts I had heard the team was just on another level.
  24. Reading these comments proved what I basically already knew which was STA is the team to beat in 7A. Issue is can anyone not getting the "best" transfers beat them in 7A ? The comments above state Dwyer has a chance. In a perfect world everyone has a chance. Can anyone knock them out in the South ?
  25. I dont get out much of our area to see other teams play. What does Dwyer do better than the others in the south? If STA was not here they would be the team to beat ?
