Venice will not beat STA. They don't have the talent, resources and they don't have the coaching. The teams Venice played this year were not very good. Despite what everyone thinks Manatee and Braden River were down. STA has been in the battle with great teams and are battle tested. Venice has not. STA will roll them.
Thank you for being honest. The only people that believe Venice is going to beat STA are the people that are supposed to believe it; Venice players, coaches and followers.

Congrats Braves! On to round 4.

Let the games begin!

I was very surprised to see the kind of players they have considering the amount of talent across town from them.
Don't be surprised. Lakeland, Kathleen and LG tend to pull from the same talent rich areas regarding football. Lakeland gets the credit because of the program's championships and dominance over the decades. That reputation tends to overshadow other programs that have the same caliber talent and sometimes more of it.

Wow, lol. That's from the palm beach post.. You should read the comments...

Nice recap 181.

Wait I thought Lakeland won?
Not tonight. Blocked punt set up Plant's winning TD.

Lakeland goes down 25-21. Good season Naughts! Congrats Plant.

I second that!Great win for Lake Gibson.

Isn't STA the team to beat in every class they're in? They haven't been a state finalist 14 times since 1996 for nothing. Historically Dwyer has the best chance against the Raiders. Statistically speaking, however, history has STA in the finals roughly 75% of the time with their only 2 playoff losses to another S Florida team coming at the hands of Dwyer. Also, the last 3 times STA didn't make the finals were odd years. Fun Stuff!Reading these comments proved what I basically already knew which was STA is the team to beat in 7A. Issue is can anyone not getting the "best" transfers beat them in 7A ?
The comments above state Dwyer has a chance. In a perfect world everyone has a chance.
Can anyone knock them out in the South ?

Vero better not look ahead and sleep on Ridge... Very phyiscal team, with a strong running game...
Exactly. If Ridge's game against Osceola is any indicator, it might not be a good night for Vero Beach.

I would love to see Lake Gibson get that Armwood monkey off their backs.Raines came within a td of beating Bolles the first time so who to say they can't beat them
Cocoa being picked by a lot of people
Rickards a solid 5a north team who could very well win the north and play AHP in finals
Mainland a good team who has ability to win the south
Lake Gibson wrecked a favored vanguard so who to say they can't beat Armwood, rematch with vanguard and 1 panhandle team
STA likely favored in south and Columbia got a road of Lincoln, Lee, Buchholz and Lakeland/Viera/plant CAN YOU REALLY TELL ME THAT IMPOSSIBLE BUDDY??
Apopka winning state would shock no one and Deerfield a talented team who gotten better as season went on so how that a bad pick to win south?
-
In 2007 when they were in the same district as: Osceola and Lakeland (which started the season with the longest win streak in Florida). Lake Gibson was without a doubt one of the three best team in 5A North but did not make the playoffs as Lakeland and Osceola did. They had a big time receiver who caught anything within his range.
Thats debatable as LGs 05 & 06 squads could've made deeper runs in the playoffs had it not been for Lakeland.

Me too. Playing behind will catch up to you sooner or later.Crazy game. Two punts by Kathleen in the fourth quarter that a Lakeland player let hit them and did not cover, the first of which set up the Kathleen go ahead TD.
The tie-breaker worries me a bit. Lakeland has been a very slow starter this season. With only one quarter, they better come out ready to go.
-
The "L" goes down 14-7. Waiting for other finals to see how this affects the district.
WH won. Get ready for a tie-breaker!

If they both in same county will home field really make that much of a difference?
It may or may not. Lakeland tends to travel well. Granted, Polk is not a large county in terms of population (~600,000), it is a spread out county and with 15 in-county games that night home field could make a world of difference if the school has a large following. Kathleen and Winter Haven have that following and they're both at home. Also, no one will know how this Lakeland team plays on the road until the WH game and that could be to their advantage or detriment. The Winter Haven game will be the only one in town and the Kathleen is, the Kathleen game. That game will be sold out.
-
Honestly, had WH remained in 6a, I think they would have made a run last year. The new playoff format is needed for situations like theirs was. I haven't seen them play since 2014 but I hear they are pretty stacked. Having a week off didn't help, but when you can come back from being down like they were against Ridge tells me they got a team there.
Yeah, when the schools were realigned there was a lot of grumbling as many of the traditional powerhouses would eventually knock each other out as apposed to representing Polk in different classes. That being said, the Winter Haven game is also on the road. We'll see how Lakeland stacks up.

Welcome to the board
Thank you! I really like what I see here.
-
Dare I say Lakeland better watch out?
I would say yes. I don't remember much about Denison stadium in Winter Haven but I know K-leen will be hostile rivalry game on the road and there's no shortage of talent on that roster.
-
Does Winter Haven play any decent teams the remainder of the season?
Here's a link to Winter Haven's schedule and most of the teams they play.

I believe that's a new state record.
