    That's what makes it awesome

Normally Jones in this spot would play AHP or cardinal gibbons now they may play both

Means we get better games throughout the playoffs and 6a region 4 is a gauntlet, gonna be great games there

Next they need to move half the games to Saturday so high school fans can make another local game besides their own.

  2. Think Rockledge is Tier 3. I believe Osceola fans would agree, they played them and Viera, and Clearwater CC tough. After switching FSU commit to QB full-time beat Cocoa and destroyed Palm Bay and Merritt Island. Only thing holding them back early season was coaching. Hosting Cardinal Gibbons in 2nd round should score them plenty of points with you win or lose. Probably top 5 game in state second round.

Heads up Bamarod, just between you and me, badbird "Knows" the Osceola Kowboys very well. You could say his inside knowledge of the program shouldn't be questioned at this time.

Wish he would of been a little more forthcoming with his info; and there are two sides to every story. Regret we didn't see one of the better games in state played this year, bottom line. And thanks...

Oh you weren't at the game, but you say 18 flags were thrown.  But you are a Viera supporter.  So I get it.

"No dog in the hunt" as the saying goes. Again, I was cheering for the kids I know on Rockledge. But to hear Catscratch , Rockledge got a lot of help from one ref. He says 18 flags thrown by one ref, was just asking if you noticed? Your answers imply you didn't, so guess we will leave it at that.

Wish I was able to see the game, first defeat by a Brevard team on Cocoa in years. Very impressive for the Rock, either way!  As others have stated in this thread, lots of competition on the way to state.Good luck!

you meaning Viera.  Did anyone say Viera was scared?  I was pointing out if they played it you might not be on here bitching and crying about getting the 2 seed.  Enjoy your trips to Plant and maybe Lakeland.  I might make my way over to that game and then you won't have to be an internet tough guy.

I started the thread to get clarification why Viera who had a tougher schedule was screwed out of the number one seed. Got some decent feedback, even from you, although you are wrong, Viera will host Plant in round 2.

You keep saying deserved, but you did not do what you needed to under the new system. You were not cheated and were not punished for playing Gonzaga. Your points for the Gonzaga game fell due to losses late in the season by that team. Now if you argue that the new system punishes you for factors outside your control, I may throw a little sympathy your way.

Bad Bird is a knowledgeable, former coach at many different schools. I don't remembering him denigrating you by calling you stupid in any of his posts. You are actually making yourself look like a whiner, if not stupid, by the nature of some of your posts.

My advice is, move on and encourage your son, if he plays for Viera, to enjoy the playoff experience. If you are unable to do that, I may revise my opinion and think you are a fool!

Wasn't addressing you, but on several threads bad bird has suggested that Viera had dodged a reschedule of Viera-Osceola game that was cancelled by hurricane. Knowing the scheduling philosophy of Viera's coaching staff I got irritated by his innuendos. So I apologize for going a step too far. but he should know better than to suggest crap like that and not back it up.

Lakeland and Columbia have been around since the early 1900's and Plant is near that long as well. They've all been in the playoffs since the FHSAA started. Of course they have hosted more games than Viera.

Yo Columbia, as proud you are  of dragging those stats with every posting, I'm a Merritt Island grad, 3 state championships in the highest classification including back to back titles my soph. and junior years.

So although I am rich in tradition myself, Viera is not. Just saying you guys act like you deserve to host because of your tradition. Columbia for some reason thinks his school sucks and doesn't want to host? Go figure.

No community 'deserves' it. The team that deserves it is the team that earns it based on the way it is structured. If the structure changes,  then the next team that earns it based in that structure deserves it.

Ok then, You are saying the schedule that Lakeland played is better than the one Viera played? You  high?

Viera didn't play Kathleen this season.

OOS games count exactly the same as in state games. Your points will be based on their record...and Viera did get the 3 bonus points with Gonzaga.....they just ended as a tier 2 team based in their record.

No, but they have a losing record so I know they are down from the last 3-4 years. We played them back to back years; two years ago. Not very well coached, tons of penalties, bad offense, but better athletes then most schools. They have a player at U of F that is the best linebacker I have seen on a football field in years.

If you would have rescheduled the Osceola game and beat them you would be #1.  Good luck beating Plant and Lakeland back to back.  If you do you deserve the home game round 4.

This is the second time you expected me to reschedule the game. Dumbbird from hence forth, sorry, I'm just a parent not a coach. If you are an Osceola coach, explain when the make-up was to take place, if not a coach, shut the hell up on the matter. It isn't like Viera is scared of playing Osceola, that is why they scheduled the game to begin with. They like challenging games to get ready for play-offs.

And just like two years ago, we will beat Plant and Lakeland  back to back if we are good enough. Just this time Viera deserves that game to be played at Viera. The community deserves it.

First, if Viera is to win states, they will get the job done regardless. Second, Apopka is not as down as you may think. Third, Martin County, Heritage and Palm Bay are not murder's row. In fact, Kathleen would probably give each all they could handle. Fourth, you earn bonus points when setting your schedule if you scheduled teams that made the playoffs in either of the preceding two years. You may want to look at the effect of scheduling points earned by each team.

A loss  is always going to hurt you as losing to a category 1 team only earns 30 base points while a win, regardless of category, will get you more, for example, a category 4 win still earns, I believe 35 points. So, yes, in that sense the loss to Cocoa hurt you a bit. Lakeland, being undefeated, has no such anchor.

The biggest problem I have with the new system is its complexity. Complex systems tend to lack transparency. I am now of the opinion that we could have made much easier fixes to the old system that would have improved things.

Never said those school's were murder's row. They are all solid teams like Kathleen though and Viera had a running clock at half on them. Viera had a much more difficult schedule ,obvious, but wasn't rewarded for it.

Last thing I want is for schools to be punished by the new system for scheduling a challenging schedule for the improvement of the team. All high school fans throughout country would lose on that one. OOS contests are a great reward for communities involved and would be a shame if they are in some way turned into a negative.

A strategic mind is a heck of an advantage when navigating the new system. There you have it. Of course, if Osceola had beaten them, it would not have solved Viera's predicament.

Would have been one of the better games this year in state. Teams match -up pretty good, again a plus for Viera being a home game for them.

but on plus side you all would host round 4 bc your all's points is more then anyone in region 1 if I saw correctly

Cool, if true. Still would like an explanation of why they jumped us. We were ahead until two weeks ago during bye week. Guess not beating BYE is a downfall.LOL

Scheduling weak is what will give u the most points scheduling tough does nothing if u lose and hardly anything if u win

If true, the powers who control this need to fix it by next year. New home and home with .Ft  Dorchester,  a S Carolina power, should get double points just like Allen, Tx and Gonzaga DC.

I think it might have something to do with not getting bonus points for playing Gonzaga

I could be wrong but I think you only get bonus points for playing florida playoff teams

but it don't matter, if Viera is best in 7a like you been saying you all wont have trouble beating Lakeland on the road, didn't you all do that 2 years ago?

Yeah but not the point. Viera would love to host that round. Most of you have hosted a dozen of these type games, Viera hasn't and is new to this experience. Would be great for the community to host. Seems Viera isn't getting a fair shake considering they are willing to play anywhere?

  16. Lakeland schedule is a joke. Best win , if you call it that cause there really isn't one, a down Apopka team they beat by 7 at home. Nothing really sticks out in a very mediocre schedule. Beat a 4-6 Kathleen team 10-3? Ok what gives? We went to DC and beat Gonzaga 21-6. Running clock wins against Martin County,Heritage, Palm Bay. Beat Rockledge in first game of year 13-6. Did we get punished by new format for losing at Cocoa in 2OT?

Just studying bracket much easier path in top half. Second round game against Lake Nona instead of Plant, followed by obvious home field game in possible Viera vs. Lakeland match-up. Viera earned the home-field advantage by scheduling tough, seems they are another casualty to new system.

For someone that doesn't make excuses, it sure sounds like I upset you.

I wasn't at game; so you didn't notice a extremely high number of flags being thrown during game? 18 by one ref would catch my attention even if they were in my favor.  I was a big Rockledge cheerleader for this game but never want to hear a ref deciding a football game this way.

They moved Corbin to QB late in the game against us....ran read option with him, scored then went away from it.

Yeah, same against us, but Latham was the least talented skill guy in backfield and they were letting him make decisions with RPOs that he was naturally keeping and getting stone-walled. I LOL a couple times with #3,5,6 in backfield Latham kept ball for no gains. Possibly more talent in backfield than anyone in state and not using it. Shaking my head...

  19. CatScratch, You saw a better game than I did, Viera 35-6 over Heritage.  Thought it weird that Wilks cut off the passing game in 4th qt. completely in Viera game. But it paid off in the end so thought he knew best. Just I'm never one to limit ones balance with pass and/or run.

Two passes entire game against Rockledge?  Again you guys completed several mid-range passes against Viera so strange not to attempt more against a defense loading up to stop Hawkins. And it sounds like Hawkins was injured, did he not finish game?

  20. 2 minutes ago, Kowboys4Life said:

We played Rockledge earlier this year, I said in a post there that they were very talented and athletic...#3 gave us hell from his LB spot and #5 and #6 were game breakers.... good win for the Rock, they will be a tough out in 5A

#3 I believe is Tennison and only a junior. Not looking forward to playing him next year. Like against Viera pretty sure they had Latham at QB facing Osceola. Switched  #6 Corbin to full-time QB later in season.Think we both got lucky this move didn't happen in  summer so Corbin and rest of team could of gained max. reps in execution. Think as they move further in playoffs they can be unstoppable in 5A.

  21. 2 minutes ago, Cat_Scratch said:

I was disappointed Wilks only threw 2 passes. When Hawkins went out I had a feeling Rockledge had the edge.

Good luck in the playoffs. 5A is going to test Corbin. I see why you like him at QB, he brings in a whole new level of play with his running abilities.

Not a Rockledge guy really, Viera fan. I coached with and against Mitchell, Tennison and Corbin in youth football. We at Viera won county twice(once with Corbin) and back then these 3 were just so much more talented then anyone else in the county. It is rare but they continued to dominate even as they grew to maturity. Lots of kids mature early and everyone else catches up in high school. All 3 continue to dominate in high school.

Again you have to give Younger and staff credit(I hear he finally listened to staff), and put the ball in Corbin's hands every play. I knew he would break off a long run at least once during game!

Also need to shout out to Rockledge defense, shutting that Cocoa offense down is a monster task. Both teams should have tremendous success in play-offs. Brevard will be cheering you both on.

To young to have seen these games but my dad coached with Vero back then and I’ve heard some good stories that MI and Vero used to a good rivalry

Only 4 classes back then and MI and Vero were at the top of 4A. It was a war every time they played. What high school ball was meant to be. Glad your community still has the tradition. Seems like Cocoa got MI coaching and a lot of fan-base moved to Viera.
