Chaminade-Madonna will win this game. The only individuals who don't know that Vero is the underdog here is Vero. It'll be good, but Chaminade-Madonna isn't Viera. Coach Jones, Coach Tate and staff will have the Lions ready for this one.

I know I doubted Vero as much as everyone else, but it appears the staff and players didn’t get the memo they were supposed to lay down in this game.

Chaminade’s players antics before the game (and subsequent lack of control by said coaching staff) only heightened Vero’s drive to win this game. Excellent performance by Vero’s defense again tonight silencing many who doubted this program, myself included.

Speaking of athlete's, did I forget to mention that Vero has the highest 8A RPI ranking in the state, also one of the best defense's in 8A . Vero .776 8A  CM .654 3A. There is a reason for those stats - we are loaded with athlete's on both sides of the ball !!

I don’t know if you were around the last time Chaminade came to town (2003) but they were 2A at the time and there was a lot of talk around Vero being a much bigger school, Vero having more athletes, wearing them down etc.

I seem to remember the Lions going into half with a 35-0 lead and a running clock during the 2nd half. Vero scored twice against their 2’s and 3’s to make it respectable, but that’s the kind of scenario that can happen against this type of team.

This will probably be a close game, unless Vero's quarterback finally puts it together. Vero should win this game as they are more motivated than CM. Their 60 game winning streak is on line,  they have the home field advantage, and they have twice as many players. CM raves about their D1 running backs but Vero has 4 super running backs, Meizinger, McMillian, Dawson, and Woulard. As a much larger school Vero should be able to outlast CM in the second half. As I said, if Vero's quarterback can put the passing game together, Vero could go to states.

I doubt Vero can outlast CM, they regularly play 6-8A schools much better than Vero and beat them, and Vero has had trouble with smaller schools that can out athlete them ( Pahokee, AHD.) As Flotech said, I see this game similar to the AHD game, but Chaminade has much better personnel and wins 14-10.

Going forward, I don’t see anything to say this years team can go any further than the last several years, I see them losing in the 2nd to 3rd round again.

Trading Venice and ft lauderdale for Port St. Lucie should give them an extra W but hurts seeding points

The PSL game was a fill in due to the hurricane, I’m sure Vero would have rather played Venice, but PSL was the the only team with a shared bye week willing to play Vero that week, won’t help much with seeding, but at least the kids will get tape for recruiting...

Don't be surprised when Lakeland has the lowest offensive scoring of the year against Centennial !!

I highly doubt that, if Lakeland is anything close to the team I saw in last years state championship game, they would put a running clock on Centennial and Vero this year or last year, they are heads and tails above both programs, and I say this as a longtime Vero fan.

Vero and to some extent Centennial and Treasure Coast are very solid programs, but Lakeland is one of a few elite programs in the state, very big difference.

Merritt Island is 3-0 and this is a low key important game for Vero......I think this going to be a low scoring game because Vero don't have that offense that scores in bunches and Merritt Island don't seem like a offensive team either.....but I think this will be another decent game that Vero's defense shows up and make key plays that effect the whole game.....

If Merritt Island keep Vero under 30 points, that'll be first time Vero goes a couple games without 30 or more points scored since 2010....But does that mean Vero will be battle tested coming into the playoffs or does that mean Vero is down af on offense and road all the way to a potential record breaking undefeated regular season by the defense.....I'm actually interested in this game and will attend it........

I know it’s before most everyone’s  time, but this was a huge rivalry in the late 70’s through the 80’s. Both teams were competing for state championships back then, with Merritt Island winning back to back in 78, 79. and Vero winning it in 81...

I expected Vero to beat Treasure Coast handily last year, and they had to come from behind to win.  Even Centennial hung in their with Vero until the end.  Just based on those results, I would hope that Vero is taking those games very seriously.  It appears those two programs have made progress.

Just my observation, but I think this area, the space coast, and the Orlando are benefiting from an exodus from South Florida currently. Many families are moving north trying to find affordable housing, less congestion, and perceived safer places to live. As this happens, I would expect many teams to move to 7A, 8A classes as the Miami schools seem to dropping down in class.

I could be wrong, but I seem to remember all the Dade county schools to be mostly 8A not that long ago...

Y’all have to get Venice back on the schedule before the playoffs start, don’t you have connections with Coach Jankowski?

I think this game is dead, unfortunately. Vero’s only open date is Oct 4 (y’all play St Francis but will probably wish you were playing Vero, lol) and I doubt Venice wants to come all the way to Vero to play on a Monday with kids having to go to school the next day.

Lake Minneola is an average Orlando area team. If Minneola gave VB trouble, VB is probably make another early playoff exit.

I think not playing for two weeks (and missing almost a week of practice due to Dorian) had a lot to do with it, Vero definitely looked rusty, but they secured a win despite not playing to their expectations.

  10. Treasure Coast games scheduled for Friday:

Vero Beach /Ft Lauderdale is cancelled  (possible reschedule tbd)

    Sebastian River/Deltona is cancelled

Fort Pierce Westwood/ Stoneman Douglas is postponed

    St Edwards/First Academy is postponed

All others were moved to tonight

I don’t know how good Vero is yet...but I don’t think they are better than Atlantic regardless

I agree,  Atlantic is usually the strongest 8a school in Palm Beach County and is two years removed from playing in the 8a title game (which DP won.)

We also had some huge missed throws last night too, if they would have connected wouldn’t of been close, and I’m not talking about contested catches but over throwing wide open guys, then the times we did hit them it called called back. Really need to work on the discipline. Both the running backs looked good though and I forget the one kids name he’s got some pretty good hands out of the backfield and quick feet.

    Starting RB is Bobby McMillan

As I said in the spring, Vero's defence is going to carry the offence for the first couple of games until Vero's new quarterback gets his feet wet. Once he gets his confidence , watch out 8A.

I think Vero’s biggest question especially after the AHD game is going to be the O-line again this year. If Vero’s QB (Jankowski) has to scramble as much as he did last night, his learning curve could be steep.

Their remaining schedule doesn’t allow much slip ups with games against Venice, Chaminade and Viera still looming and district foes Centennial and Treasure Coast.

I do appreciate where are you are coming from.  One could argue that Vero also has some distinct advantages, though.  They have had a strong program in place for years and more football tradition than the vast majority of schools out there.  Vero sold season tickets when that sort of thing was almost unheard of in Florida.  Although they may not have as big a pool to pull from, they also don't have anywhere near the level of competition for talent as some of the Broward/Dade schools.  ...case in point, most Broward public schools have struggled mightily over the years.

For as long as I can remember, the pollsters have hyped Vero in the polls, and along with that comes high expectations, regardless of circumstances, ie Vero being a "town."  Same can be said for Columbia High.  My issue is when folks cite victories over teams like Oscar Smith and Venice and try to translate that into predictions of victories over a team like Chaminade.

Based on what you say, Vero should be the underdog in such a game, but some folks don't see it that way.  I'm a believer in being humble and over-delivering.  Know your opponent...Chaminade is not a world beater, but Oscar Smith and Pahokee they are not, at least not the recent versions of these teams.   I got the impression that when Vero invited Chaminade all those years ago, they had no clue what they were biting off.  I listened to the radio announcers before and after that game, and those fellows were clueless about how good Chaminade was.  Hopefully this time around they will know they are facing a very dangerous team, and prepare accordingly.

I think most true Vero football fans know they will be huge underdogs in the Chaminade game, I would venture they should be underdogs in the Venice and possibly Viera also. With that being said, a great majority of people at the Vero games are there for a night out and have no idea who Vero is playing, they just want to see Vero win and watch the band play.

I think some of the Vero “fans” on here are new to the area (at least in the last 10 years,) as this area is filling with new transplants escaping Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.

The radio crew that Vero has now is much more informed than the crew they previously had as far as where Vero falls in the state pecking order (Gary Parris also does the UCF games,) so in my opinion, they will approach this and other games with a stroke of humility and hopefully optimism I would think.

Its a spring game, stop reading so much into the out comes of these things....................its all about evaluating talent and where the piece fit best come the fall.

I agree, Vero lost to Martin County last spring  and look how both programs seasons went last year, spring games don’t really mean much
