It makes sense if the enforcement of the penalty yardage was more than half the distance to the offended team's goal line.

Badbird is correct. Once the helmet comes off of the runner, the play is dead in NFHS rules. I don't know about NCAA rules.
-
Perspective, in NFHS rules if any player continues to participate after his helmet come off, that is an illegal participation foul. If any other player makes contact on a player whose helmet has come off, that is a personal foul. Both penalties are live ball fouls and if there is a foul on each team, that would become a double foul, which by rule makes the penalties offset and the down replayed. The player whose helmet came off will have to leave the field for one play unless there was a foul by the other team which caused the helmet to come off the player's head. I don't know about NCAA rules, and I did not see the play in which you are referring.

I have been arguing this point for many years. Is my influence finally seeping into the brains of the posters of this message board?
-
Thank you for explaining.
-
Yes, you can ask, and then I answer the question and settle the issue.

The officials are not responsible for where fans sit or stand when not on the field of play. There is a dotted line that is about two yards behind the end line that the public should stand behind, fans and media. That is the extent of the officials authority on that issue.
-
Do you mean the Pass Interference foul?
-
What problem did you have with the Pass Interference penalty?
-
It is NOT the officials intent or responsibility to "even up calls."

The Jones victory over Vanguard was not improbable. Jones was the more talented team. Vanguard fought back, and proved with a winning program that that truly are, but Jones could have put the game away a little earlier than they ended up doing. The Tigers will be very tough to beat going forward. Elijah Williams is a great High School Football Head Coach.

Let me state this one again: TWO UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT FOULS BY THE SAME PLAYER OR NON-PLAYER IN THE SAME GAME IS AN AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFICATION! UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT IS A NON-CONTACT FOUL! Rule references 9-5. 9-8. Did you understand that this time?
-
All right, that was most likely a holding foul that should have been a penalty. What I am talking about is not immaterial though because a second Unsportsmanlike Conduct Foul on a player or coach is automatically an ejection, while a second Personal Foul on a player or coach is not. Also, it is explicitly stressed in the NFHS rule book that Unsportsmanlike Conduct is a non-contact foul.
-
Oh all right. You may feel differently about this coach if you were aware of the way that he has conducted himself at his new place of employment.
-
I am explaining why a certain action that would lead to a foul is one penalty and not another, so I am hardly going off on a tangent. The difference between an Unsportsmanlike Conduct and a Personal Foul penalty is NOT immaterial since the potential punishment of these two penalties is different. Holding can be a judgment call so it would help if the play was viewed visually before committing either way.

There is no specific rule regarding an offensive player contacting a defensive player who is already on the ground. Also, it doesn't matter if a player is on his back or stomach. Whether this is a foul or not would have to depend on the circumstance of the play.
-
Most of the time, that will be a foul.
-
However, it is NOT wishful thinking that you may attain my autograph one day. I know how important that is to you, and I will try to follow through.

I would assume that your son was satisfied after the first round victory over Lake Brantley.

Good Head Coaches always know how to exploit the rules to their team's advantage. Most schools have about 25 assistant "coaches" who seemingly do nothing more than act as team cheerleaders during the game. One of these "coaches" could be given the task of learning the NFHS rules verbatim, so the Head Coach can have the tools needed to make the rules work for his team.

Blocking below the waist is now a foul unless if is immediately at the snap by lineman on other lineman (offensive or defensive).
-
Did you play for a certain coach who changed jobs and moved to the county north of your school a few years back?
-
If there was physical contact between two players, the foul should have been a personal foul, not unsportsmanlike conduct. Where was the football in relation to this action that you have described?
-
By the letter of the law, what was described is holding. If the QB is in the pocket while this occurs, there should be a holding foul. It would be helpful to see a video of the technique though.

Consistency is not as important as being correct by the intent of the rule.
