Who Is This Famous Coach? John Maronto/Mainland
Jambun82 replied to OldSchoolLion's topic in The Huddle
I understand why he was fired. Coaches need to set an example for their players, and obviously Coach Maronto did not set the proper example in that instance. My point was that that one incident, which I personally do not find to be a big issue at all, should not overshadow all of the good that the man did for many people for many years, including for me personally. I still remember having a conversation with Coach Maronto about Woody Hayes, and he explaining to me that all that Coach Hayes accomplished at Ohio State should not be discounted because he punched a Clemson player who intercepted a pass in the 1978 Gator Bowl. -

Peezy, I might ask you and Perspective to wear name tags to tell the difference between the two of you. lol -

Sex between two consenting adults does NOT bother me. High School Football Coaches who yell, scream, and even curse the whole game at officials does bother me. High School Football Coaches who are not able to set a proper example for the young players who they are charged with leading by staying in control of their emotions does bother me. To answer your question, NO Coach Maronto never cursed at me, but he did teach me a lot about the game of football, and life in general. -

Thank you Perspective, I need to open my eyes, and pay attention more. I have heard that you even fill in at work for Peezy from time to time, and the boss hasn't caught on yet lol. -

CURSED? CURSED? You really want to discuss cursing, why don't we talk to you about your hero Rick Darlington? Coach Maronto could have retired many years ago, but he cared about his players as human beings first, football players second. Coach Maronto is doing just fine, and he is still involved with the game of football. -

Thank you for sharing that with the message board. That still doesn't erase all of the good that the man did for many years for many people. -

That is John Maranto, who was the Head Coach at Mainland, Marimar, and New Smyrna Beach. Coach Maranto won a state title at Mainland in 2003, to this day the only state title in high school football for Volusia County. Also, he was the Head Coach for a very valued, important, and rumored good looking poster to this message board in high school. lol -

It looks like I mixed up Perspective and Peezy28. I didn't realize that it was Peezy that sent me the message about the senile old man, not Perspective. I guess the P messed me up. lol -

Thank you HornetFan. Yes Pop Warner Football realized that their organization had to ease up on some restrictions to be able to "compete", for lack of a better word, for these young players who were starting to play for other leagues. -

Perspective, I asked the man a simple question after he made a big deal criticizing the Floyd of Rosedale trophy awarded to the winner of Iowa and Minnesota, and not only did he refuse to answer my question, he called me every insult he could think of. All I wanted to know was if Ohio State had a 'trophy" game that they played with another Big 10 team, and he just went off on me. At that point, I figured that was my time to retire from that message board, and I haven't visited there since. -

Thank you HornetFan, do you know what dates this league finished out their season? Pop Warner Football had eased up on weight restrictions recently as an incentive to get more kids out to play for that league. -

HornetFan, is the CFYFL an 8-on-8 football league. Also, on what fields and cities/towns does the league play it games? Thank you. -

The NCAA didn't have overtime in College Football until around 1995. -

Yes, and if I am not mistaken, the team that completed the drive missed the try to take the lead. They were trailing 22-16 when the drive started. -

Yes, in 1994 at Daytona Beach Municipal Stadium. I attended that game. -

OldSchoolLion, you never claimed that the team that went on the long drive won the game Are you referring to the 1991 state title game between Southridge and Evans that finished up tied at 22-22 I believe? -

Thank you Badbird. I remember that 2008 team got on a real hot streak in coming from behind and beating several great teams, including Northwestern in the state title game,. They were getting beat on both lines against Spruce Creek, but then Andre Debose caught a screen pass on 3rd-and-15 for about a 70 yard TD, Ray-Ray Armstrong made a few plays, and the Seminoles pulled away. -
Great analysis.
