  1. Yes, I agree, and we also need to envy Jessica's husband, and hope that he realizes what are truly lucky man he is! Jessica has always been a treasure and a great source of knowledge and wisdom. I only wish that she gave more thoughts and opinions on subjects beyond 3A.
  2. Hello, does anyone know what Officials Association services this area? Also, aren't most of the schools isolated from other towns and cities? I attended a playoff game at Glades Central 20 years ago, and I remember the school and football field being in the middle of nowhere.
  3. I believe that this is a great point about a big part of the problems with high school football in the state of Florida. A lot of posters on the message board are so obsessed with transfers, but there are many deeper issues than that. I worry about the quality of football across the state.
  4. Correct. That is not considered face guarding, that is pass interference. This game was played at Walt Disney correct?
  5. TitanUp, non-contact face guarding is no longer a pass-interference foul in National Federation rules.
  6. No, an Illegal Formation is not a loss of down penalty. You didn't mention that Pahokee scored on the play in your post. You just said that there was a penalty on fourth down. Did the player who was ejected have two unsportsmanlike fouls in the game?
  7. 561_Fan, what exactly was the foul on the fourth down committed by Pahokee? Park Vista does have the right to decline the penalty. What else about the officiating did you have problems with?
  8. Great point Dan, you are correct about your question.
  9. Jeff McLean wasn't the head coach for 34 years at Merritt Island. Gerald Odom won multiple state titles and close to 200 victories at Merritt Island alone.
  10. That is the point that I am trying to make. If coaches wouldn't stress "playing to the whistle" all the time, officials can use the whistle less, and there can be less instances of a premature or inadvertent whistle. If a runner is clearly down of out of the field of play, and the scrimmage down is over, that can be seen by players, and officials can hold off several seconds on blowing the whistle.
  11. In the past, I have tried to explain why coaches and players talking about "playing to the whistle" is incorrect, and how the whistle rarely, if ever, ends a play. This past Sunday, there was a perfect example of what I am trying to explain. Myles Jack stripped the football and recovered the fumble from Dion Lewis, was not touched as he rolled on the turf, and got up to advance where he most likely would have scored a touchdown. This probably would have given the Jaguars a three-score lead, and would have possibly iced the game for Jacksonville. However, the wing official felt the need to blow his whistle immediately meaning that the play could not be reviewed and correctly ruled a touchdown. The whistle is NOT needed in football like it is needed in the game of basketball, and we need to get away from the concept of "play to the whistle" that coaches feel the need to teach their players. I hope that I have made my point clear.
  12. Badbird, what you have described is bad sportsmanship, and it is a shame that you cannot recognize it. There are no "enemies" in the game of football, and phrases like that have no place in our discussion. I am very thankful that I do not have to communicate with many coaches who have your attitude, and that we are changing the way that the game of football is taught to be understood by young people today.
  13. Badbird, if you think that football should be a "violent" sport, and showing good sportsmanship by helping an opponent up is not necessary because the game of football is a "battle", then I believe that you are severely misguided.
  14. I am assuming that this is some kind of joke at my expense. I hope that you had a good laugh. lol
  15. I am very happy for the Dr. Phillips Panthers, as well as Head Coach Rodney Wells. Coach Wells is one of the real gentlemen coaches in High School Football. He has a well-earned reputation for treating people with respect and dignity.
  16. Peezy, I think that it would be best that you did not respond to me or address me on this message board anymore. Thank you.
  17. Blindside blocks are now illegal unless the offending player extends his arms, and makes first contact with the blocked player with his hands.
  18. Thank you very much Josh. I am looking forward to it.
  19. All right, that sounds good. Thank you.
  20. 954gator, the officials for the playoffs are not associated with Venice or STA. What problems do you have with the officiating in the game?
  21. Thank you Dan. If you ever get around to attending a Daytona State College Basketball game, and I am at the table, feel free to come and say hello.
  22. Proseteye, thank you very much and it is good to talk to you again as well. As much as I complain, you have a much stronger argument for the way that many posters spoke to you at that message board. OTC never has to apologize for being a successful program. I have always enjoyed speaking with you, and what you have to say, and I look forward to reconnecting with you again.
  23. Peezy, I did not appreciate the way that you spoke or treated me on that other message board. I read and agreed with the rules of this message board, and I feel that Josh Wilson is a moderator that has a good grip on things here.
  24. Thank you Cat Scratch, it is good to see you on this message board along with some of the other posters, who I wondered what had happened to. I have learned, and been informed in the few hours that I have been here, and I look forward to more great discussions.
  25. Sharkbait, what type of fouls do you notice in this circumstance? Are the fouls called mostly false starts, encroachments, illegal shifts, illegal motions, etc?
