How often has a team won a state title having played all of its playoff games on the road?  It is very rare.  Here are a few that did...a truly remarkable accomplishment

2012-Godby won 4 playoff games on the road and then traveled to Orlando, where they beat Immokalee for the 5A title.  Those four playoff games involved travel to West Florida, Wakulla, Bishop Kenny(Jacksonville) and Robinson(Tampa).

2009-Glades Day won 3 playoff games on the road and then traveled to Orlando, where they beat Warner Christian for the 1B title.

2003-Carol City won 4 playoff games on the road and then traveled to Gainesville, where they beat Edgewater for the 6A title.  Outscored opponents 102-13 in those 5 games.

1976-Panama City Bay won 3 playoff games on the road and then traveled to Ocala, where they beat Delray Beach Atlantic for the 3A title.  Interestingly, they beat Ocala Forest in the state semi in Ocala and then returned to Ocala for the final.

Several teams won 4 playoff games on the road, but then fell short in the state title game:

    1998-Estero

    1999-Southridge

    2004-Lake Gibson

    2008-Northwestern

    2009-Deland

Mandarin 2018.... well not exactly but they were picked to lose every game including the state

It's already the toughest schedule in FL and could be toughest in nation if they land the last game with who they are rumored to be interested in

I commend them for taking on this schedule bc we all know they are going to win 3A.

Curious what the 'controversial call' was in the Robert E. Lee game.   According to MaxPreps, Plant won 27-19.  If this is the game I'm thinking of, Lee got the ball back towards the end of the game and drove it down the field into the red zone.  They ended up with a 4th and goal from inside the 5-yard line with time running down.  Lee had been running a variation of the read option and the QB had rushed for over 100 yards.  Plant loaded up the box and sold out on the QB keeping the ball on the 4th down play.  He did and got stopped in his own backfield.

Even if Lee had scored on that play, they would have needed a 2-point conversion just to tie the game.  I could be confusing this game with another, but that's my recollection.   I don't recall a controversial play, but I'm always open to learning or being reminded.

yeah you're right. lee did blow that game

  4. I didn't know exactly how many years it was but I remembered them losing to Apopka that year and they should had of lost to Robert E. Lee a couple of years ago (controversial call). I also depends on schedule I see they play decent teams. Unless they run the table they wont get every home playoff game. then took at armwood, they win both home and away but manage to lay an egg in they state title game for the last 10 years. was basically saying that great teams win on the road. plant is a dynasty though no doubt about it

I have unfortunately made my mess and now have to live in it. My wife works from home so she doesn’t mind and the kids attend a fantastic school (elementary). We may move when the kids get older and have them attend a private school in town.

My thinking is my younger co-workers (same with my friends) are starting to stay in town more, even with kids. I think the younger generation is valuing their time more and less willing to sit in traffic. I hope this continues and Duval County schools improve as a result.

    in mandarin its even worse.

Aye don't ask me I'm a fan, I'm not the coach ask THEM that maybe their playbook change in the playoffs, but facts is still facts like example Vero beating Oscar Smith Venice and Pahokee AWAY on the road, people had questions about whether we could bring the W back.....while Vero has beaten solid teams like Viera and Pahokee at home I mean just sayin those are facts

None of that matters unless they're bringing home that trophy. Tampa plant hasn't lost a home playoff game in so many years but yet still haven't able to hoist up the trophy

Bolles finds a way to get the kids in. I don't think Bolles has the allure that it once did. Bolles has always been a place for the wealthy white of Jacksonville to attend who were afraid to send their kids to Duval public schools. The emergence of Stanton, Paxon, and Wolfson as IB schools with strong academics. Additionally, in the last 20 years, schools in northern St. Johns County (Creekside, Ponte Vedra, Bartram Trail, Nease) are increasingly strong academic schools within wealthy neighborhoods with strong athletics.

The upper middle class of Jacksonville have started moving to northern St. Johns and take advantage of the public schools than stay in Jacksonville and pay Bolles tuition.  There will always be those willing to send their children to Bolles for the status of going to Bolles, but long term, I think the days of Bolles being a dominant state-wide football program are over. They will still be good enough to play to the regional finals every year, but I don't think we will see them going to the state championship every other year like it seemed to be in the 90s and early 2000s

True but I see them still going to state because there is no competition in the north region in 4a. If you noticed the last couple of years Raines been having a cake walk to state finals with west Nassau being their toughest game in playoff now Bolles fills that void since Raines moved up so Bolles should be in state title game. Im sure Bolles can get any athlete they want there. but now the schools are Raines, Sandalwood, Mandarin, and Trinity when it comes to top quality talent in the area.

I was only pointing out the fact that Vero has lost at home before. Whether its in the playoffs or not. You stated that Vero has not lost at home since 2012 against a loaded Ft. Pierce Central team. Don't understand why you would hang your hat on the fact that they are dominant at home in the regular season but lose at home in the playoffs....just saying

In that case they to play the state title game @ home and maybe they'll win it every year. greats teams win on the Road in hostile environments.

I have no idea but they are a similar type of kid. Upper class.

not exactly. first you have to get accepted to go to Bolles (which in sure that'll be no problem). I think the program will be back on top well at least in the North region. they Should make state based on probably the hardest team they face in the playoff will be West Nassau now that Raines moved up to 5a. Now Bolles winning state will be the question. Having to face a Cocoa, University, Booker T, or now Carol City ( just moved from 6a to 4a) will be too much to handle for Bolles. Bolles doesn't have the athletes to compete.

He probably thought he was closest person to Jacksonville area

@joeycash2004 might be a better person to ask since he has seen raines this year

Raines will probably be better this coming season (19) than there were last year. They will be smaller but waaay faster. Big lost fro Mr football Brandon marshall but offense will be more open this year. would be the same even though they moved up to 5a but soft district with only ribault (rival) in front of them. Deep run in playoff. dont know about state in 5a though now with northwestern in there now....interesting

  13. #7 is carol city because my brother was

Pick from the list of teams below to answer each question.  There is one answer for each question, except for the last question, which requires two answers.  Good luck!  It is OK to guess wildly!  Work together if you get stuck...the more minds the better.

    a. Atlantic (Palm Beach)

    b. Bartow

    c. Bradenton Southeast

    d. Carol City

    e. Cocoa

    f. Deerfield Beach

    g. Fort Meade

    h. Frostproof

    i. Godby

    j. Jefferson County

    k. Lakeland

    l. Lincoln

    m. Miami High

    n. Miami Jackson

    o. Monsignor Pace

    p. Northwestern

    q. Pahokee

    r. Port St Joe

    s. St Thomas Aquinas

    t. Wakulla

    1. This team won a 2A state title even though they ended the title game with 8 punts, negative rushing yards, one first down, and barely over 50 yards of total offense.

    2. This team has appeared in several state title games during its history.  In those games, the team never completed a passing TD, never completed more than 5 passes in a game, and in only one of those games did they pass for more than 40 yards.  They once won a state title without completing a pass in the game.

    3. In one of the greatest upsets in state finals history, this team won the 4A state title by defeating an undefeated, defending state champion that had been ranked #1 in the country that season.

    4. This team has the ultimate hard-luck story.  Over the past 50 years, they made it to 4 state semifinals, losing all 4 games by a total of 16 points.

    5. Since 2000, this team won 2 4A state titles despite giving up 300+ passing yards in each title game.

    6. This team has been in two state title games that were each decided by a last second extra point conversion.

    7. This is the only team in the history of the FHSAA finals that has recorded shutouts in 2 state final games.

    8. This is the only team in FHSAA history to win the state final, semifinal and regional final all by shutout and outscore their playoff opponents by a combined 100 points in all of the playoff games...all in one season.

    9. This is the first team in FHSAA football history to ever finish a season with a perfect 15-0 record

    10. This is the only team to play in 5 or more state title games and not lose a game.

    11. This is the only team to lose more than 7 state title games.

    12. Of all teams that have won an FHSAA state title, this one has been waiting the longest to repeat as champion.

    13. This team has 38 playoff wins, but has never won a state title.

    14. This team has won 2 playoff games in which it scored only 3 points or less in each game.

    15. This team has won at least one playoff game in each of the past 23 seasons, including this year.

    16. This team beat Bolles in a title game while gaining only 5 net yards rushing.

    17. This team beat St Thomas Aquinas in a title game while attempting only two passes for a total of 5 passing yards.

    18. This is the only team to lose 4 state title games, each by 7 points or less.

    19. These 2 teams are the only ones who have reached at least one state final in each of the past five decades, including the present decade.  (Pick two from the list above)

8 is carol city because my brother was shutout by them in 2004 at Orlando edgewater. they had the great willie Williams. they had like 4 shutouts that year. they were like the ravens when ray lewis won their 1st super bowl. no offense but stingy D

The past years I’ve noticed these two sports go hand in hand as track makes you fast in football. True or false?

We we had a player in 2006 who was RB and a junior. He wasn’t fast per se. He runs track that school year then his senior year he was football fast.

is safe to say Track is very important for certain football positions?

it depends because some kids who run a 10.2 in the 100m end up running a 4.5 in the 40 because the may not have good start of speed but once the hit stride at 50 yds, then they get faster

I could see it being another game like last season but with more points but then again if Cocoa had the offense they have this season then that game would have been completely different in my opinion.

cocoa would had easily wont that game last year if had saw it. Raines was prepared to stop the run and they did. but it was the play action passing that was killing Raines. they were 4 passing plays that were dropped passes. had those pass had of been caught then. if would had been a different outcome

  16. true was just seeing if you know what Raines had to go through this season. lol so I meant to say playoffs been a cake walk for the past 2 years... cocoa is probably better or just as good as all those teams they struggled with, but if they were to be down like that against cocoa, then they will seriously be in trouble. cocoa knows how to close the game
