The Seminole Ridge Lady Hawks have not shown any signs of slowing down, even if one game got washed out last week thanks to Mother Nature’s spring fury of storms. However, the results of the Capital City Classic Flag Football Tournament proved to be what it was designed for – to allow teams from around the state to test themselves against some of the best competition from other areas of the state.
1. Seminole Ridge (5-0)
The Lady Hawks pounded Wellington at home winning 46-6 in a district contest. A game against Royal Palm Beach will be rescheduled after Mother Nature through a fit last Tuesday, dumping a ton of rain on South Florida.
2. Fleming Island (4-0)
The Lady Golden Eagles continue to roll through opponents, this time smashing Atlantic Coast 52-0 while notching another win in district play.
3. Oak Ridge (4-1)
It was certainly not the best week for the Lady Pioneers who took a major upset loss to a rising and undefeated St. Cloud team – a loss that has likely cost the team the top spot for the district tournament. However, they did manage to get a win later in the week, topping Celebration 14-8.
4. Apopka (5-2)
The Lady Blue Darters put in four games over three days and the results were half and half if you look at it on paper as Apopka picked up a 14-0 win over Spruce Creek in district play, while winning one of three games at the Capital City Classic in Tallahassee. The Lady Blue Darters took a Friday afternoon loss to 1A HM Lincoln 25-6, while defeating FAMU 39-0, before losing the final game of the weekend to 1A No. 5 Orange Park, 19-6.
5. Plant (4-0)
Plant’s record total could be totally different at this point depending if they had been able to make it to the Capital City Classic over the weekend. However, that will not have an impact at all here, as the Lady Panthers did notch a 45-0 win over Sickles to continue their winning ways.
6. Boone (5-0)
The Lady Braves continued to show they are a solid team, smashing through Orlando University 34-7 in a district contest. A game against Colonial that was originally scheduled before the season was canceled and will not be made up.
7. Taravella (3-0)
The Lady Trojans took care of business against a strong opponent in No. 10 Plantation, knocking off the Lady Colonels, 7-2 on Thursday afternoon last week.
8. Everglades (4-1)
The Lady Gators skirted by Cypress Bay 7-0 in their only game last week to get their fourth victory on the season on Friday afternoon.
9. Alonso (7-1)
Talk about something that has happened this week. After getting shut out by Plant 21-0 during Week 3 action, Matt Hernandez and his Lady Ravens squad notched FIVE (yes FIVE) shutouts this week, including three at the Capital City Classic in Tallahassee over the weekend. Teams that were bested by the Lady Ravens included Wharton (7-0), Gaither (39-0), 1A No. 9 Godby (19-0), Leon (27-0) and 1A HM Lincoln (31-0) to win the Capital City Classic championship for the second time since the tournament launched in 2011.
10. Plantation (4-2)
The Colonels dropped a very important district game this week to 2A HM Western, 14-12. They also dropped a 7-2 decision to Taravella, which will see the Colonels exiting the rankings come tomorrow.
