  1. Was just answering Cocoa 2010's question. Not debating the legitimacy or illegitimacy of a KOC win. Some such games are for real, others are not.
  2. IRMA really messed up HS football. Not a single 8A game!
  3. They have. It is unfortunate. When I first started following High School football, Lincoln was a premier program.
  4. They did not beat Lincoln. Lincoln won in a huge upset in a game where Armwood outplayed them. I was at the Citrus Bowl for that game. Maxpreps has probably mischaracterized the results. Armwood did beat Miami Central in 2011 when Cook and Yearby were young. However, both teams were subsequently disqualified for using ineligible players (Armwood a DP transfer, among others, who did not reside in the zone, and Central, their QB who resided in Broward County at the time). So there was no champion in 6A that year as Armwood vacated the title.
  5. Finally got power back on. The Orlando area was hit pretty hard. But aside from the loss of power, the only effects I felt was a section of my fence down. Fixed it late Tuesday. Hope everyone that posts here is alive, safe and well!
  6. I was surprised they lost that badly.
  7. Great win, Miami Central. BG is no slouch! Central is the real deal this year.
  8. Final, Lakeland 42-35 over Apopka. Game effectively over when Apopka was intercepted with a minute left. Exciting game marred by penalties. At the end of the day Lakeland had one more bullet than Apopka. Bad Bird made a pretty good call. Things of note: 1. Lakeland ran the ball very well against Apopka as their OL opened up big holes in the final three quarters. 2. Apopka had its most success passing since the days of Zack Darlington. 3. The lead changed hands frequently after the first quarter; at the end of the first it looked like it would be a defensive struggle, as Apopka was inside the 36 of its own half the entire quarter but held Lakeland to 3. The final three quarters were a shootout. No shame in the loss. However there are things that need to be worked on.
  9. That is huge. Columbia may be better than people think this year.
  10. Lightening delay. If called, this could be the second such in a row for Apopka, and I believe Lakeland has also had a washout against Manatee. This season is off to a real bad start weather wise, and with IRMA coming through, who knows what it will do to team's schedules.
  11. Lakeland up 17-12 at the half. Lakeland's offensive line has opened big holes for their runners. Apopka played most of the first half in an uncharacteristic spread offense. They did have some success running it. They scored twice but failed to get a kick off both times for the PAT.
  12. Laz consistently gets better as the season progresses and current year info gets factored in. Also, the more teams play outside their district and region, the better it is in a given year as connectivity has a big impact on its accuracy.
  13. I am pretty sure it will be. I think Lakeland archives its games. Not 100% sure though.
  14. A pity, but I understand. They are currently directly in the path.
  15. Apopka vs Lakeland moved from Friday to Thursday at 7:30 at Bryant Stadium, Lakeland.
  16. Right now, South Florida, the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico (US states or territories); Cuba, Antigua and Hispaniola (Haiti and Dominican Republic), non US. After South Florida, it is anyone's guess as to where it goes. But from the Gulf of Mexico states, to the Mid Atlantic could be impacted at some stage later next week.
  17. Potentially deadly storm. To all: please monitor this closely and heed the warnings. This is not a storm to ignore, as doing so could result in loss of property and possibly life. The property can be replaced with time, not so life.
  18. I was there with Dan. So I will give you mine. They alternate two quarterbacks, both of whom are tall, but one is built like a tank. The latter hurt Mainland both through the air and with his legs. Their defensive font is good, but their DBs are average and slow. If Mainland's QB had had more time and if his receivers had caught some of the many they dropped, the score could have been reversed. Against good teams, BT will give up a lot of points. However, their offense is probably good for mid twenties against even the best. They have a chance to represent the North in 7A, but I don't see them giving St. Thomas any trouble if they are the representative. Of course, they would need to beat Viera and Columbia to get there.
  19. It seems some of this was not properly thought out before the rules were finalized. They should make adjustments as these situations become apparent.
  20. Given the relatively short life of most football careers, if you project 5th round or higher, it would probably be a mistake to not go pro when you first become eligible. Each year spent in college probably represents the subtraction of a very large percentage of your potential professional career. As such, leaving seems like a no brainer to me if professional football is your goal. You can always go back and finish the degree after your career is over. Heck, you can even take classes during the off season and online if you want to and have the discipline.
  21. 8A 16. I believe South Ridge is also in that district.
  22. Palmetto is a good football team. They may make a run in 8A this year.
  23. I don't think we should jump to conclusions over this. The Orlando Sentinel write-up of the game was done by the editor of the Apopka Chief. He did not mention in his piece that this is what Norland's administrators/coaches did. If, indeed, that is what their coaches and administrators decided, then that would be a bad thing. However, if so, then JP should have put this in his write-up which enjoys a lot more credibility than posts on a message board where the sources are anonymous. Just saying we should hold off on any judgment till the facts become clear. The Norland team certainly came to play and I am pretty sure wanted to finish the game. If they were prevented from doing so by adults associated with the program, that was unfortunate. In general, there should be a set standard for when a game is called as final. Perhaps after three quarters when a certain amount of time has elapsed (say 1.5 hours). For as it is, several games in Orlando were called as final after two quarters or more and in at least one case, Olympia vs Ocoee, with only a touchdown separating the two teams. I suppose in these instances, both sides agreed to the existing result. Given the new points format where all games count, I think establishing uniform rules across the state of Florida are necessary.
